Warning Cancelled: Fiona Downgraded

[Updated] The US National Hurricane Service confirmed this evening [Sept 3] that Hurricane Hunter planes have flown through Fiona, and confirmed it has weakened from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. It’s maximum sustained winds have decreased to 30 mph, and forecasters say that “additional weakening is expected and Fiona could denegrate to a remnant low tonight or tomorrow morning.”

At 10:30pm this evening the Bermuda Weather Service cancelled the Tropical Warning that was in effect, although the Small Craft Warning is still in effect.

Update 11:44pm: At 11:40pm tonight, the US National Hurricane Service downgraded it further to a remnant low, and said no further official advisories will be given. Also as of this time, the weather system is 60 miles south of Bermuda.

This is the third weather system of the 2010 Hurricane Season to fizzle out prior to reaching Bermuda, and the US East Coast was also spared a battering as the once-Category 4 Hurricane Earl weakened considerably to a tropical storm late tonight.
