  1. itwasn'tme says:

    LOL…….money for nothin

  2. Just Curious says:

They used to do good when they did not have any funding? well we all know the solution! take the dollars$$$$$ away!

  3. For Real says:

Yet another Reason to cut out the funding for International cricket and put it towards sports that actually win events or towards things such as more police on the streets, or help those who really need it within the community! Stop wasting our money and put it to good use!

  4. Truth is killin' me... says:

cricketers…never seen a six in their livers unless it was a sixpack!!!

  5. Silly me ... says:

It WAS money well spent …. it was never for the development of ‘sports’ ..it was to buy votes ! hahahaha

  6. Bermyman says:

Bermuda should concentrate strictly on 20/20. It would actually be achievable because it suits our environment and style of cricket. Anything else we will struggle on global scale, we simply do not have the population or the dedication to do so.

    • itwasn'tme says:

You can’t be serious……these guys run rate is way to slow for 20/20…..have you ever tried to watch cupmatch? The most boring cricket known to mankind is Bermuda Cricket…. its no wonder spectators all get full hot drunk…it kills the pain of watching death (a draw) happen in slow motion!

      • Bermyman says:

That’s the point! if you play one day or test cricket you spend too much time trying to pick shots, any teams regular test or one day run rate is slow compared to 20/20. If you focus and are coached as a 20/20 side, the overall cricket will be more exciting to watch and to play. You may even generate more public interest in the sport

  7. bermudian says:

This is ridiculous, the whole program needs to be scrapped, we can start again with the under 16 group,

  8. Really!! says:

We really did not get a good return on our investment in our two national sports the government has pumped so much money into. In 2007 the government committed $11 million of 5 years to a sport that has never proven themselves worthy of the money. Here is what one world cricket article said ” and so Bermuda head home, and few will miss them. If proof were needed that money was not the be-all and end-all, then here is a wonderful example.” Embarrassing!!

But it all honestly we were relegated to where we belong. Until the BCB and our athletes get serious about competing then we get what we deserved. You can’t be serious about actually competing on a world level and more than half of the team is not ‘physically fit’ to compete at a professional level. We are AMATEURS!!
On that note football games in Bermuda should be FREE!! What person in their right mind would pay to go watch some of those games. Really!!

  9. To All the Ignoramuses says:

You all are typical Bdians. Quick to speak negative words outta ya arses!! But you’ll be the same ones who will jump on the victory bandwagon if they were successfull! Probably never even played a sport in your life. Just fulltime critics on the sideline! The other teams spent weeks training FULLTIME. PNG were in Australia for weeks training! God forbid if we had done the same thing. If the team were taken outta work to train, we’ll be hearing your mouths again! Make up your damn minds. You can’t have it both ways!! We prepared part-time so this is the result!! And one more thing……don’t think the money always comes out of the BCB/Govt pocket. If its an ICC tournament, the ICC pays for it!! Lack of knowledge and facts is proven to be detrimental to ones common sense!! IDIOTS!!

    • Really!! says:

Your first few sentences is all a part of playing sports at a national level. The fans/supports of a national team have a lot of pride and so should the players that represent their country. You’re going to have people that criticize the team for sub-par performances as an article on cricinfo.com put it and of course we would celebrate when our athletics do well. If you play at a national level get used to it. It comes with the territory. If you can’t handle the heat stay out the kitchen. England fans have booed their team off the field in both cricket and football when their teams had poor performances. At the same time they have celebrated when their team has done well. I don’t think we are being typical Bermudians but a typical sport supporter. If we sugar coat everything like the typical Bermudian way how are we going to improve when we can’t be honest.

All you have to do is READ. Read the articles after Bermuda participates in tournaments. Articles that state Bermuda cricket is in shambles, Bermuda exits the world cup and not a moment too soon. They changed the rules to get into the World Cup to make it harder for teams like Bermuda to make it. We never expect Bermuda to win any important tournament but for once I would like to READ, Bermuda put in a respectable performance or something along those lines. Please just for once!! Even the skipper said according to the daily, “I’m not really fussed about whether we should have won today or not, I’m more concerned about the whole week, and why you can’t; A) get up for games, and B) put enough effort and commitment in during those games.” This is what your skipper said. We have never put enough effort and commitment in during important games against any half decent team. Again as a typical sports supporter please give us something to cheer about give us something to applaud for the amount of $$$ we have invested into the sport.

Now the money, yes you are somewhat correct. The ICC does give money to the countries that are members of the ICC, up to $400,000 to be exact. Now for some of the teams that compete against Bermuda and beat us this is the ONLY funding they receive to develop their entire program. No additional money from their government (really the taxpayers) for anything. For some teams that have competed against Bermuda have not had as much “training trips” as Bermuda due to lack of funding.

I think most of us are asking for one of two things to happen. Either government stop funding a program that has consistently proven we are not getting good value for the money invested. Or for our national sports to start improving on the international level. I think that is very fair.

Last point. I would agree with some of your excuses, we are not full time etc etc etc. It all starts with effort and wanting to do well. We don’t deserve to be full time with the effort some not all but some of our athletics put in. How could we compete at a international level but most of our team is not in any “physical shape or condition” as one English paper put it. They could go for runs and watch their diet on their own. Work hard get in shape and good condition, sometimes the athletes needs to show us how much they want it. Sometimes they have to make the first move to do all they can so hopefully they can indeed play full time and represent Bermuda. Instead while a half talented sports player in the UAE, in the Caribbean, in the World is sacrificing a lot just for the chance to make it while a talented Bermudian sports player is clubbing every weekend and drinking developing a beer belly doing everything that is opposite to those that are working hard trying to make it. Really!!!

Meanwhile, ferries are cut back. $11 million.

  11. Makes sense! says:

They must be tired from the travelling I hope they got a day off to go shopping!
