Man Pleads Guilty: Assaulting Family Members

June 2, 2011

20-year-old Keiron Spencer this morning [June 2] pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court to two charges of assault and one of threatening behavior stemming from a 31st May and 1st June incident at home that involved his sister, an aunt and his mother.

The Prosecutor’s evidence was that Mr Spencer had been drunk and had demanded access to his mother’s car and car keys. Telling him that he was drunk and had no driver’s licence, his mother refused.

An altercation ensued in which two female members were injured by Mr Spencer. Police were called, and on arrival and because he continued to behave aggressively, they ended up arresting Mr Spencer and taking him to Hamilton Police Station.

The Prosecutor’s evidence was that Mr Spencer had told Police that they couldn’t arrest him because: “…it’s a family matter and you can’t arrest me in my own home.”

Asked by Magistrate Archie Warner if he had anything to say and speaking from the prison’s enclosure in the new Court setting, Mr Spencer’s reply was inaudible.

Prompted by the Magistrate to speak up, Mr Spencer said that he was: “Sorry to have wasted the Court’s time.” Prompted further, the twenty year-old said that he had now moved and lived at Camp Hill and was employed on a part-time basis as a labourer in construction.

Duty Counsel Mr Savoury rose to assist him and, after taking instructions from him, lawyer Mr Savoury asked that the Court consider some leniency towards Mr Spencer and deal with him by means of a fine.

Magistrate Warner fined Spencer $1,000 on each of the two counts of assault and no separate penalty on the third count of threatening behaviour, for a total fine of $2,000.

No respect for cowards assaulting their own mother! Then again……where’s father? Or ‘Other Mother’ since Sybil-ization wants to go there now!
Destruction and damnation. Let’s do away with that ol religion telling people to honor their father and mother.

I am not religious at all, and I ‘honor my father and mother’…

      • White Christ says:

Yes but religion is evil for telling us to do so! Religio-phobia!

    • Notorious says:

You sure do think about gays a lot. Why? That wasn’t necessary and totally random.

      • White Christ says:

You bet I’m thinking about all the wild creatures roaming civilization of a sudden.

I’m betting you are one of them…

I’ll wager you! Winner gets Paradise, Loser gets Hell. Races are off!

            • Notorious says:

You already lost so how’s your hell? Repressing your sexuality must be torment. I’m sure your God would love that you’re a bigot judging people and calling yourself White Christ. You stay losing.

  4. The biggest mistake we have made here is referring to this individual as a “man,” without holding him accountable to act as such.

Regardless of race, religion, creed, culture, sexual orientation or the structure of his family unit, there was nothing manly about his behavior.

The fact that he had the audacity to assualt his own family (when she was only trying to protect him from himself!) shows us all his total lack of respect. His alleged response to the police only reinforces that point.

Granted, none of us may truly know where he came from or his story.
It is always easier to put the blame on others instead of taking responsibility for one’s own actions.

That being said, as an ADULT, accountability becomes his.

My advice to him would be:
Rather than disrespect your family, you should consider what life would be like without them. This is the reality for many who are not as fortunate as you are.

You may not always agree, and life coming up may have been HARD. No one is disputing that. But the ball is in your court now to decide what direction you will head in.

    My best to all involved.

Alcohol, the legal drug. Turns children on their families. Isn’t it wonderful?

  6. whistling Frog says:

This is a case in point with all drugs… Some people can handle their own while others don’t have a clue after having a hit of anything. But one thing for sure, if this guy would have smoked a joint, he would have went home with love in his heart and tears in his eyes thanking his momma for all the love she put in him. Now why you suppose its called firewater?
