CableVision Secures Grant For Local Charity

August 11, 2011

CableVision donation to BBBS 2011A nomination from Bermuda CableVision for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda (BBBS) to receive a grant from the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA) has resulted in a $1,000 award for the local mentoring charity.

The CCTA launched its Community Charities Program in 1993 as a service to the local communities in which it is represented.

Each year, the CCTA selects a number of charitable organisations from those nominated by active CCTA members or cable operators. This is the sixth consecutive year that Bermuda CableVision has successfully secured a grant for BBBS.

Edward Cherwinski, Chief Financial Officer at Bermuda CableVision, presented the cheque to Patrina ‘Power Girl’ O’Connor-Paynter, Fund Development/ Marketing Communications Director at BBBS Bermuda.

Mr. Cherwinkski said: “As the economically tough times continue unabated, we are grateful to CCTA for selecting the Bermuda chapter of BBBS to receive this funding.”

“We nominated the charity once more for its continued efforts in helping Bermuda’s most vulnerable young people by connecting them with an adult mentor to act as a positive role model and friend.”

Ms. O’Connor-Paynter says: “This donation is especially welcomed at a time when we are feeling the financial pressures of this recession. It will support us in our commitment to meeting the ever-increasing demand for a high-quality mentoring service on the island.”

“Many of our ‘littles’ are from single-parent families, who themselves are also facing significant financial challenges and need our help now more than ever.”
