CableVision Introduces 5-Channel Basic HD Tier

September 9, 2011

Bermuda CableVision is introducing a 5-channel Basic HD Tier that it is offering at no additional charge, to any standard digital Variety Tier customer who rents or purchases an HD digital converter.

The new Basic HD Tier is being launched with five channels: Nick HD; LifeTime HD; Lifetime Movies HD; G4 HD; and Versus HD. CableVision plans to add more HD channels to the Basic HD Tier in the future.

The company also announced the upcoming launch of another HD Channel in its larger HD Line-up: business network, Bloomberg HD, which will be available soon. Earlier this summer, CableVision added Fox Business Network HD (Channel 431) and Fox News HD (Channel 428) to its HD line-up, which now includes, with both tiers and Premium channels combined, a total of 36 channels.

Along with these changes, the company has re-organised its HD channel numbering, placing channels with similar programming close to each other. Customers are reminded to re-programme their DVRs, Tivos and other devices to reflect these updates.

“We’re making high-definition television more accessible to more customers, while continuing to enrich our larger HD line-up,” says Terry Roberson, general manager, Bermuda CableVision.

“Now any customer who subscribes to our standard digital Variety Tier can enjoy these five HD channels, at no extra cost, with the rental or purchase of an HD converter. We also plan to add more channels to the Basic HD Tier going forward. In addition, to further enhance our customers’ range of options, we will be introducing a second, more affordably priced HD converter soon.”

A short overview of the new 5-Channel Basic HD Tier (Channel numbers may be subject to change as new channels are added to the Basic HD Tier):

Channel 406: Nick HD – This is the HD home of “SpongeBob Squarepants”, “iCarly”, and “Victorious,” among others.

Channel 409: Lifetime HD features popular movies and series including “Greys’ Anatomy,” “Pawn Stars,” “Cold Case Files,” “Project Runway,” “Will and Grace,” and more.

Channel 410: LifeTime Movies HD caters to the female audience with a full schedule of movies

Channel 413: G4 TV – Geared toward a male audience, G4 is a lifestyle channel, revolving around tech and videogame culture

Channel 416: Versus HD is focused on fishing, hunting and other outdoor sports, and serves up popular programming such as “Babe Winkelman’s Outdoor Secrets,” “World of Adventure Sports,” and “America’s Cup” yacht racing.

The 5-Channel Basic HD Tier will continue to be offered to all subscribers to CableVision’s larger HDTV line-up, and is available now to all Digital Variety Tier customers who rent or purchase an HD converter.

The company currently offers the Cisco/Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD model, which is a DVR, and would replace the customer’s existing standard digital converter, as only one box is needed.

The HD DVR is available for rent at $35 per month, or for purchase at $850. The box has all the advanced features of a DVR, allowing customers to record and store up to 90 hours of standard-definition programming or 20 hours of HD programming.

It is also equipped with a range of parental control options. CableVision’s second HD converter, to be introduced soon, will have a lower purchase price than the Cisco 8300 model.

Will Cablevision create a “God” Tier? Put all the bible thumping nonesense together so I don’t have to mistakenly view as I channel surf.

There seems to be a growing number of channels catering to the God Botherers.

Suppose I could use the parental protection features to prevent my kids from being poisoned by this.

    • blackbeard de pirate says:

yes the “God Teir” should also automatically take 10% if their wages as tithes.

    • Tuba says:

Lol ……. One can only hope.

    • Cleancut says:

Thankyou Cablevision, it is nice to receive the upgrade at no additional cost. My monthly bill is $167.00 with internet service since 2006. my BELCO bill was the same 3 years ago but now is stating to creep up to almost $300.00

  2. Yeah Right says:

The fact is that Bermuda is so far behind in technology. I now live in NJ and every single channel I have is HD. CableVision is a joke because of the amount of money they want for the very few HD channels they offer.

  3. Say Say Say says:

Maybe there could be a ‘fiction’ tier and all the religious rubbish could go there.

  4. Bdaksink says:

All I got to say is 850 for a HD dvr box, what a rip off!!!!! These boxes go for 250 dollars in the USA or even you get them free for subscribing to the service. 850 after several years, now what piece of electronics stays the same price after years on the market?, none, CV, lower your damn prices!

Seems like a lot of anti-religious posters on here, damn, do your eyes burn every time you flick past a religious channel? ~lol Even if you don’t believe show a little respect.

    • sandgrownan says:

The best one is that hispanic dude in the white nero suit. Goes on these crusades healing people….farkin’ hysterical.

    • Say Say Say says:

Most religious channel deserve no respect. They are con artists who take advantage of people too stupid to know any better. They are liars and thieves – nothing more.

      • Say Say Say says:

They quote lines from a fictional book, and ask you to send them money and say that by doing so that you will be forgiven and not sent to eternal damnation in a non existent place they call Hell.

Con artists in the extreme. They should be charged with theft and sent to jail. Furthermore, the fictional book ‘the Bible’ should be see as that. Nice fictional stories along with some sh*t stirring stories to control lesser intelligent people who can’t figure out they are being had.

  5. Boo to CV says:

Forget any more service ‘smoke screens’ on their overpriced tv service , give us internet service speed for what we pay ! If it happens to be a time of day , or public holiday when there are a higher number of users on line guess what suddenly happens to you 4 , 6 or 8 meg service ? It sucks and it’s false advertising ,all the while they’re laughing all the way to the bank.

    • mediaguru2 says:

Remember you do have a choice.

I put BTC & CV up against each other for a month at home and ended up finding that even though BTC was not as fast in terms of maximum speed it was faster in the peak evening period which is basically when most people use it. What is the point of having 8mb speed when you are not at home to use it. So I have on average 5mb speed pretty much all the time using BTC.

BTC are going to launching 8 & 10mb service in the near future too.

I still remember when CV showed up at my house wanting $100 to check if the cable line was ready for digital cable. I sent him away. A few weeks later CV called and threatened to turn off the service if I did not upgrade and they did. I wrote about this in the RG, no one listened then and you all are now paying the price now. lol.

Yah can’t complain when you allow yourselves to be ‘……’ fill in the blank.
Did you take the red pill or blue?
    lol

    Buy Bermuda

  7. CheapSkate says:

I think all of you are suck tails for having cable vision…. It’s outrageous what they charge for their signal, but you Bermudians complain and afterwards say, OK!!

  8. observer says:

What type of warranty does cablevison give with the HD box if any?

  9. Curious says:

Why do we continue to pay Cablevision outrageous monthly fees for stolen content?

  10. Justin T says:

i inquired about the HD package because the have fox soccer and speed tv on hd, $850 for a dvr that i can pick up for 200 on ebay i asked if they could turn on just the hd service cause i can supply my own dvr…”no Sir you have to either buy or rent or box from us” ok how dopey do they think we are I’m not paying a 400% markup on a basic dvr…I’ll stick to WOW for now thank you
