The trouble will now move to other Island areas…..do you seriously think one mobile unit in Warwick will stamp this crime activity out?

More visible and assertive policing is required, not a mobile van with a stripe and lights flashing sitting where the crime happened in the past purely to reassure the good people of Warwick?

    Am I missing something?

I totally agree with you…while it may be a godd gesture on behalf of the BPS it will not stop or deter crime…while they are parked under the Rubber Tree a crime could occur at Whites, Lindo’s, Belmont, Warwick Workmens (all in Warwick). crime is not stationary so a stationary vehicle will not work….and whilst I accept the fact that police can’t be everywhere if they were at least more visible (foot patrol/canvassing) it may help a bit…..3p’s PRESENCE PREVENTS PROBLEMS

    • MinorMatters says:

Particularly, when the unit is unmanned, how much of a deterrent is that? The kicker is the unit was there when the crime in that area took place and they weren’t the first to know about it… sad. As usual, reactive, knee-jerk response and void of any pro-active thinking, actions or solutions.

  2. Lady Scribbler says:

I am not sure what will be accomplished by having a van parked throughout the day. Doesn’t most crime happen at night? I live in Warwick and fear even taking a walk in the area at any time of day! The area around Warwick Bowl is riddled with strange looking people drinking out of paper bags, standing in the trees doing lord knows what………and in my 15 years in the area I have never seen a foot patrol anywhere nearby. This area is a hotbed of suspicious activity that has been ignored for years. Sadly, there are several nurseries and schools very close by and no one seems to care!

    Always Reactive and not Proactive.

    • CAT says:

Totally agree!! They always act after the sh#t has happen!! They need to install CCTV on every pole in Bda, and make sure the damn s$#t works!

  4. The Future says:

It is the community’s responsibility to ensure citizens – someone’s son or daughter -behave. The police are only required after the community has failed to do its job.

    • tricks are for kids says:

The police ARE part of the community as well…It is their duty to serve and protect and be vigilant as PART of their job description. That’s what they are paid to do…..

      • March Hare says:

There is no such thing as community! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government or police service can do anything except through people; it is our duty to look after ourselves and then also to look after our neighbor. Life is a reciprocal business and people have got the entitlements too much in mind without the obligations, because there is no such thing as an entitlement unless someone has first met an obligation.

I agree Future. Raise you children properly people and set good examples. Dont be hypocrites. And when your child gets out of line, a good cutass will make them think twice. Thats right Sheila, I said it and it needs to be said.
Bring back old school discipline. It certainly detered me in my younger days.

  5. MinorMatters says:

for Gods sake BPS why are you telling the public what hours the station will be UNMANNED…yer cain’t fix stupid!

    Road to hell,

The bps needs to be more visible and assertive, I agree totally with that. What’s a van with a stripe and lights flashing sitting at a previous crime spot supposed to do? Especially if it is unmanned.

I think the bps needs to up ‘the ante’ perhaps. Instead of being a Police Service to the community why not be more like a Police Force to be reckoned with. Spot-checks and stopping and searching vehicles aren’t enough. They need to be more assertive and give the criminals a taste of their own medicine. Start kicking in doors with guns blazing and even shoot some of these criminal bast@rd$ dead, right? Is this a better solution? Will this make you feel safer? Or will it give us more to complain about?

The truth of the matter is that crime is everywhere, in every part of the world. It will happen whether or not some van is parked there or if the bps is “More visible and assertive”. I think they do their best to balance the pendulum with the resources they have. I understand your frustrations but I think its only so much any police officer can do to prevent crime. For instance, some of our counterparts south of us handle criminals very different from us, “shoot first and ask questions last” but serious crime still occurs on a daily basis.

Its ok to propose that the bps needs to be more visible and assertive but what does that mean? And to what extent? And what are some of the possible effects? How will you feel if the bps was “more visible and assertive” towards afamily member of yours or a close friend? Will you be the first to complain? Or will you be the first to congratulate them on a job well done?….. Just some food for thought.
