BJGA International Classic Final Round Summary
The 2012 BJGA International Classic came to a close yesterday [Aug 9] in tough conditions at Port Royal Golf Course.
Julien Papadopoulo turned in his third straight score in the 70’s to take his first BJGA Major Trophy by 10 shots, closing out the event with a 78. The only real blemish on Julien’s card today was a triple bogey on the 14th, but his closest competitor, Scott Gilbertson, couldn’t take advantage of the slip up.
Scott finished in second place after a final round 83. Justin Dixon-Watts’ hard work finally paid off as he closed out the event with a 79, his lowest round of the week, despite a triple bogey 8 on the 7th.
Justin’s fine round saw him pip Aaron Railton to third place in the gross standings and Aaron will rue his mistake on the 15th hole, taking a 9. Aaron was also just edged out to the Net Title, which was claimed by Cory DeSilva.
In the 13-15 age division, whist it was not his finest round, Evan Watkins did enough to fend off Walker Campbell for the title. The two were paired together and both struggled, possibly from the pressure or the challenging course conditions, with Evan extending the winning margin to eight shots with an 89 to Walker’s 96.
The battle for third was tighter, with Jordan Saunders besting James Robertson by 4 shots on the round to take third place by 2 shots. James did walk away with the Net Title, however. Elizabeth Parsons turned in a solid score of 86 in her final round, her best score of the week on arguable the toughest course.
Brady Cordeiro closed out the 12 and under division, turning in the low score in the division for the third straight day with an 86. This is Brady’s second major victory this season. Benjamin Barnett, a relative newcomer to the BJGA’s major championships, continued his steady play with a 91 to take second place ahead of the favourite heading into the week, Dakota Lamb. Dakota overtook Mikus Ming who struggled on the final day.
The youngest player in the field, Kenny Leseur was facing an uphill battle before he started, but a rough start made it all the more difficult. He was smiling at the end which is all we ask for and we are looking forward to watching his golf game develop over the next decade.
The final full field results are set out below. The BJGA would like to thank all those companies and volunteers who supported the event this week and especially the three golf courses for allowing us use of their facilities, Tucker’s Point Club, the Mid-Ocean Club and Port Royal Golf Course.
Today sees the start of the 2nd annual HSBC National Junior Par 3 Championships hosted by Fairmont Southampton. The first tee time is at noon and three of the winners of the International Classic, Elizabeth, Evan and Brady, will be looking to continue their winning ways.
This event will see Elizabeth face some competition however, as Emma Roberts will be in the field for the first time. In addition, an overseas visitor, Daniel Bradbury, will look to pull a surprise in the boys’ 13-15 age group.

Where are the rest of the players?
What has BJG come to?
Squandy,
Many of our members are off-island for the summer or just not quite ready to play 3 days of golf on Bermuda’s toughest golf courses. The BJGA had nearly 100 members last year, with 60% of them at or near the beginner level. We’re always looking for support and constuctive input; would be happy to hear from you.
Chris Brough, President, BJGA.
