PLP & OBA To Release Election Platforms ‘Soon’
With less than two weeks to go until the General Election neither of the political parties have released their platform, and while both declined to give a specific date they both said they will be releasing the information soon.
A PLP spokesperson said: “We look forward to putting our comprehensive vision to grow Bermuda’s economy, create jobs and reduce the cost of living in front of Bermudians. We have outlined a preview in the Ten Point Plan for Growth. The focus of our vision is simple: it’s all about the economy, creating opportunities and building a fair society that works for all our people – not just a select few.
“We have already noted that on the agenda is Job Corps Bermuda, which is a comprehensive training and job placement service and the One Stop Career Centre, which will help to prepare resumes and connect Bermudians with jobs. There’s even more to come and we look forward to launching our vision for the future at a major public event coming soon,” the PLP concluded.
An OBA spokesperson said: “The OBA will soon roll out its Jobs and Economic Turnaround Plan for Bermuda, providing the people with a roadmap to better days ahead, with good-paying jobs, education and skills training initiatives and measures to reduce the cost of living. Our plans aim to build a Bermuda based on social and economic equity for all, leaving no one behind.”
Two of the 15 Independent candidates – Jonathan Starling and David Petty — have released their platforms.

@Ric Rock—the term elite has been always used for people who don’t look like the PLP. just because they are the ruling party doesn’t mean that they have the power of influence especially economically…there are several meanings to that word.
Thank you, I know what elite means. I used it in the unattractive sense. The PLP have been preoccupied with lining their own pockets, and those of their friends. For example, Global Hue got at least $42m, for what? Because its owners were friends of Ewart. The so-called pastor got $160,000, for what? Even Cox wanted him to return it, but he didn’t, and now he’s a PLP candidate. They treat the public purse as their own ATM. So when they talk about creating opportunities for everyone, “not just a select few”, is that what it means? That they don’t plan on looting taxpayers money for themselves in the future?
Can both parties confirm that their political documents have been printed in Bermuda? Or have they outsourced them overseas?

The PLP platform is “Comprehensive” So is covers everthing, must be the pot of debt at the end of the rainbow. If the PLP have answers for everything, why is the country in such a mess?!?! The country is in such a mess because of the PLP, the same PLP wanting your vote because they have the answers….If they have the answers, where the hell have the answers been for the last 14 years. Education fail, Tourism fail, balancing the budget fail, faith based tourism fail, Hotel build fail, Grand Atlantic Housing fail, employment fail, cost overruns fail, pretending debt is an investment …so where is the return and show me the payback…debt fail……this country thanks to the PLP is failing, unfortunately the PLP think that all is good, just like Smith pretending education results were good. I would of hung myself if this is what my hard work had produced, perhaps there wasn’t that much hard work or she doesn’t care. They have failled you, why would hire failures to run your country…the end result will be FAILURE. VOTE for mediocrity and failure, vote for the PLP. Please note this is not on government property, unlike the banners of the PLP at ELLIOT…another PLP fail…they can’t live by their own rules….they have no rules. Show me the accountability…..they can’t they fail to do so at every turn.

Pathetic. Both parties should have had these ready for release the day the election was called, or very shortly after. Maybe then they could have spent the last few weeks persuading us of the merits of their proposals instead of subjecting us to inane, childish bickering about puppets and secret plans.
Wrong Phillip, this is Bermuda where if you put it out too early the other one will steal all your great innovative ideas and call them theirs.
Why are you making excuses for them? The parties are sufficiently different in ideology that they’re not just going to steal all each others’ ideas, and even if they do it should be pretty simple to point that out. And if they steal each other’s good ideas, so much the better – then Bermuda benefits whoever is elected.
Its dirty Phillip deal with it. Look at the puppet politics coming from the PLP! Look at the Debt, the way Black people look at white people. Being in construction l feel it and see it the way it is.

With a name like Liar you gotta be good ! I’ve lived many places and Bermuda has more mixed couples and bi-racial children per square mile than any place on earth . I’ve never worked construction but we have many West Indians in the trade , so maybe those are the blacks you speak of .

@Phillip – But that’s exactly what happened at the last election. The UBP announce their plan and then shortly thereafter, the PLP copied it exactly and “one up’d” each platform with the promise offering “free for everyone” with no mention on how they would pay for it. It worked for them last time so I’m sure they’re waiting to pounce once OBA is forced to show it’s hand.

For the most part political platforms are promises.
the OBA has to come up with a method to build on a bad state of affairs
while the PLP have to come up with a concrete plan to repair the problems and economic condition that they have created.
One has to remember that each political party will make claims to do this and that but a lot of it won’t be realistic due to so many factors that hunt Bermuda.
Lets face it Bermudians, we have a large number of complex problems to deal with.
[1]it’s going to take a lot of creativity and smart thinking to rebuild the economy
[2]how to get the unemployed back to work – again some serious action has to take place here.
[3]what techniques will be used to pay of the National Debt and how to prevent from happening again.
[4]the introduction of new ways to deal with violent crime
[5]the reconstruction of new and old Police tactics to deal with the rising crime in Bermuda.
[6]an overhaul of the Education system in Bermuda.
[7]the building and the development of Tourism.
Right now the platforms are just political dreams ready to turn into nightmares – BECAUSE BERMUDA HAS NO MONEY!
