Shooting In Pembroke, 20-Year-Old Injured

December 1, 2012

[Updated - A few minutes after 5pm today a 20-year-old Devonshire man was shot, receiving non-life threatening injuries to his leg. He was traveling on a motorcycle through Glebe Road when the suspect started chasing him and ended up shooting him when they rode onto the Bandroom Lane/North Shore junction]

At sometime around 5pm today [Dec 1] there was a shooting in the North Shore/Bandroom Lane area in Pembroke and Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines has confirmed that one person was injured.

There is a heavy police presence in the area, and the road is blocked off at the junction of North Shore Road/BlackWatch Pass, and also blocked at the top of the Bandroom Lane/Glebe Road junction. Details are limited at this time but we will update as able.

Update 5.44pm: It appears the victim was shot in his lower body. He has been taken to KEMH for treatment.

Update 5.47pm: Traffic is being completely restricted in the area, and police have advised the public to take an alternate route. The Forensics Unit is on the scene.

Update 6.11pm: Audio statement from Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines below:

Update 6.16pm: Mr Caines said the shooting took place in the “area of Bandroom Lane and North Shore,” and a police photographer can be seen taking photos of that exact area [photo below].

Update 6.20pm: The police have the area blocked off and are restricting all traffic while they investigate, however a bike rider decided to ignore that, ride right past the police barricade and up Bandroom Lane onto the crime scene.

He was stopped by Police — tackled one might say — and the bike is now laying on the ground. The bike rider appears to be being questioned by police officers at this time.

Update 6.32pm: Photo of the police stopping the bike rider below. The rider is on the ground as is his bike.

Update 7.06pm: Police confirm the shooting victim is a 19-year-old Devonshire man. The victim was riding in the area, and was chased by the shooter who was also riding a motorcycle.

Update 7.08pm: Police also confirmed the motorcyclist who barged through the police cordon was arrested.

Update 7.39pm: Video of Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines who confirmed the victim’s age and gave additional details. Mr Caines said: “The victim was traveling on Glebe Road when a man came up beside him and followed him onto North Shore Road where he shot him.”

Update Dec 2: Police have amended his age to 20

This is the first firearm incident of the month, occurring only 17 hours into the beginning of December. There were four confirmed firearm incidents last month, which resulted in two people being injured.

It is the third shooting in the Bandroom Lane/North Shore junction in the past two years. In February 2012 a 23-year-old man received non-life threatening gunshot injuries, and in April 2011 26-year-old David Clarke was fatally shot on the same junction.

Any witnesses or persons with any information is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

  1. Lord let this madness stop says:

The cowards are at it again!

    • Terry says:

      Next.

    • nobodyinparticular says:

you’re absolutely right in calling them cowards. it’s pathetic. these jerks think they’re tough or manly or macho or whoknowswhat. they’re pathetic. i wish they’d read this and recognize that no one is scared of them, the silly little punk cowards. i understand that conflict is occasionally an unavoidable and unfortunate aspect of life, but gun fights are for sissies.

    • Out of flight says:

3rd one on Bandroom Lane. where are the cameras.
Time to bring in secret service reinforcements. Or we are headed to HELL.

      • lynne harper says:

Now they cut the cables to the cameras! It was reported in the paper. Got to be a way to have cameras on the camera or something to catch people doing this.

        • John says:

Why don’t we put all the PLP voters and their children in jail after we win the election. Case close, that will solve the problem.

          • dthtoo/ says:

            John,

You have got to be the descendant of a white slave monster.

            • Come Correct says:

              Or a plp plant…

@John, fromthe bottom o my little caucasian heart…ram a pencil into your eye and hurl your body into the nearest street of oncoming traffic.

        • BronxOnion says:

Camera on the camera….lmao. While cams help to catch criminals “after” they violated the law, cams do very little in stopping a crime from happening. I’m not saying we shouldn’t employ the use of cameras, but lets not get out of hand.

    • Judge Dredd says:

The man that the racist UBP/OBAers like to call “Dr. Evil” advocated getting a swat team to kick in doors and go after known gunmen. But everybody cried foul and insisted that it was a crazy idea, that the man was “blowing it way out of proportion because we don’t have a gang problem”. Well now who looks stupid?

  2. Schelle says:

People please do not make this political! No mattert who is in govenment this is going to happen. Just like no matter who ther president of the United States is, or a mayor is etc. I just wish the punishments were greater. If this is gang relayed, these guys know who they want. Such a shame!

    • RawOnion says:

But the right govt can make a difference. Um just saying.

      • Mature says:

how i hope you dont believe that

        • RawOnion says:

Yes it does….it’s not about policy and making laws, its about uplifting the community and providing an economic atmosphere that we ALL work in to benefit from. But I guess you (Mature) hasn’t noticed the surge in crime and violent crime that has happened over the last 14 years. Now i’m not blaming the PLP directly but they are the govt at hand.

          • BronxOnion says:

Haven’t been to Bermuda in quite a while. The rock sure has changed.

          • Just Us says:

@ RawOnion: You really think that a government can make people be responsible? or would you recommend that an ankle bracelet be put on every man, woman and child to monitor their whereabouts and hope that will bring change?? A thief will steal! A killer will kill, A drunk will drink and a prostitute will profit regardless who the government may be. These are things people choose to do by any means necessary. If parents can’t control their children in the home, what do you expect will happen outside the home? Has it ever registered in your brain that some people will do as they please regardless of the laws put in place? What you want the government to do, have a party and fish fry every weekend to uplift the community?
People need to stop being tempted by evil and greed and thinking just by taking a life, a drink, money from others, will profit them…

            • Mad Dawg says:

The government is not powerless. Jonathan Smith and PLP took credit this year when crime was, in their view, going down. They pointed to actions they had taken. But now that an election is looming and crime looks bad again, of course the PLP stand back, deny responsibility, and blame the governor.

            • REPLY TO JUST US says:

I AGREE IT ALL STARTS FROM THE HOME WITH FAMILY BUT THE GOVERNMENT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THIS ALSO ,,,,! JUST REMEMBER WHEN THE GOVERNMENT STOPPED THE PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS NOW DAYS THE TEACHERS CANNOT BE TOO FIRM OR SAY TOO MUCH TO SOME OF THE CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY GET NASTY REMARKS AND NO RESPECT AND IF THE TEACHER HIT OR JUST PUT THEIR HANDS ON THEM THEY CAN BE REPORTED,PROSECUTED EVEN LOSE THEIR JOB THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM YES I BLAME GOVERNMENT THIS IS FACT……!

            • dthtoo/ says:

Just Us: People need to stop being tempted by evil and greed and thinking just by taking a life, a drink, money from others, will profit them…

RawOnion needs to be reminded that that is exactly what those white monsters did to Africans whom they enslaved for centuries and the behavior of the descendants of those same monsters remains the same today. They kill and pillage to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for power, control and their God – money.

              • 21 Questions says:

                @dthoo
are you seriously blaming “the white man” as a cause for murders in bermuda, this crap happened 400 years ago. Its small minded bermudians that are the problem in bermuda. That makes you about as racist as the supposed “white man” for blaming them or even assuming that JustUs is black for all you know it may well be “the white man” that you’re agreeing with.

      • BronxOnion says:

We can’t blame the gov’t until we find out the reason for the shooting. It could be a lovers quarrel or personal beef.

      • dthtoo/ says:

Enter UBP-OBA-UBP and MIRACLES are going to happen? You had better not bet on it you haters of Blackness. With the UBP-OBA-UBP in it won’t be long before you’ll all be crying out for change again. I’m curious, what will you then do?

        • TT says:

Really dthtoo/?? You think that every person who doesn’t support the PLP are haters of Blackness? Where did you learn to believe that, because trust me, whatever happens in this country, comes from higher powers… ie the government, black or not – take your pick and YOU judge because then the racism comes from your head, not anyone else’s. We need people in charge, who aren’t related to all the older generations who still have a chip on their shoulder from things that happened back in the day. We need to progress, and this is all we are wanting here in Bermuda. People whose brains aren’t embedded with the fact that everything is the white man’s fault. Maybe then we can see that the current government need to go and new ideas are needed from fresh new faces. Politics needs to remain politics. Bermuda is too small for a government to be related to half the population. This is where the problems lie. Think Clans and Royalty and the power that some of them have. Who do you think guns and gangs filter down from?? There could be someone on the top that is in on all of it and it is up to the LOCALS to change this. Open your eyes Bermuda!! This is our home! It is SMALL, we can’t have this hate/violence/killing nonsense happening in our home.

  3. Judge Dredd says:

    >:(

  4. Terry says:

    Schelle, get real.
    Read what you wrote..
    Really read what you wrote.
Your a moron or part of the blight.

  5. Opressed says:

Wonder what went on op the country last evening, half the police , the ambulances , like a high speed free for all up South Shore. Nothing reported on though.

    • Impressive says:

I agree,, sometimes the way they go on at times,, you would think the sky is falling.. I wish they would put more energy into being proactive as they do in to being reactive.. The way they where driving and speeding last night, I was expecting to come on here to read that a portion of the island was sinking into the mouth of the volcano.. This is not an official accusation as such,, but I do believe the authorities enjoy a bit of the speeding and noise making..

  6. Scott Stewart says:

My prayers are for the family. I also pray that this will be a season of goodwill to all.

  7. mixitup says:

This stretch of road has had the most incidents of any area in Bermuda. I am paro diving through this area in the daylight.

  8. wave rider .. says:

yes it is polotical.. PLP ALLOWING THIS CRAP TO HAPPEN.. if not they would erratacate this nonsense. u know it thats why u say dont make it polotical. plp are a crap government// time for change!!!!!!!!

    • Impressive says:

are you trying to spell eradicate??? and what is polotical??? So the PLP is allowing this to happen.. now that makes great sense with an election coming,, wow,, learn something new everyday.

      • Interesting says:

Well, they’re definitely not doing much to control or stop it, are they? VOTE OBA, SAVE LIVES. Do not dismiss OBA until they’ve had there chance, you never know, they might put more money aside for a new intelligence/police force and less for GP cars and trips?

        • Plato says:

The Governor controls the police not the government has something to do with the fact that bermuda is owned by the uk.

          • JT says:

So are you willing to abdicate all gov’t control then?

          • Mad Dawg says:

So why did Jonathan Smith take credit for the PLP reducing crime in August this year? He didn’t mention the governor. He said the PLP were in the reason for what he described as the downturn in crime. He said the PLP were ‘making Bermuda safer for families’, or some crap like that. No mention then of the governor, or the UK.

          • Webster says:

I am so sick of these Governors coming to bda and doing absolutely nothing!!!!and we pay them !!!

            • JT says:

If he took charge (really took charge) the masses would bitch and moan.

              • TT says:

I agree w JT, the same as what happens when the WHOLE population feels strongly about something. It turns into a race thing and the Governor is white. and he’s not local. The real “haters” dont respect that and perhaps the Governors even get bullied into stepping down? We have had quite a few replacements since the PLP have been in power.. why is that? I think they are seeing that something is not kosher…

        • dthtoo/ says:

Who the hell among us is a mind reader – to the extent that he/she can predict/foretell when another is going to commit a crime, and stop it before it happens? Step forward and show yourself. If you can do this, then you will be the change that Bermuda needs.

    • Original OG "retired" says:

You really believe that any Gov can stop this? You a stupid @$$. These guys have declared War. I’m pretty sure both Gov want to stop it, but how is the F@cking question! What the OBA going to do lock all the young black men up, because we all know it’s not the white boys doing it. They can say nothing because it will freak with their votes on December 17th. I was waiting for the OBA to come and say hey when we get in charge we throwing these guys in a cage and feeding them beans everyday. Freak getting a visit from their family freak letting them bake cookies in West gate. Oh and put 4 in cell so they can $hit in front of their boys everyday. That’s a real prison. That’s what I was waiting for OBA Team, so why change my vote?

      • Interesting says:

IF YOU ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU’VE ALWAYS DONE, YOU’RE ONLY GOING TO GET WHAT YOU’VE ALREADY GOT! A change of parties is worth a try, it might work, why would you dismiss an option when you currently have none? You, are part of the problem, you only care about yourself, You might actually have to work for your wage, that’s what people are scared of. And while your at it OBA, legalize it, that will definitely put a lot of these gangs OUT-OF-BUSINESS… improve the tourism product and combat Rock fever that’s killing us all!!

      • Mad Dawg says:

Jonathan Smith thinks the government controls the crme rate. At least that was the story when he was taking credit for the crime rate. Does government’s responsibility only apply when there is good news?

    • Just Us says:

@ wave ride: You sound like your still in preschool…. Please open your brain and remove whatever’s blocking your thought process. How the hell is any government gonna eradicate the evils of men? This government didn’t invent corruption, guns, drugs, murder, prostitution, greed, or any of the other ill mannered behaviors of society. With all the political Rhetoric being spoken, I don’t hear anything Godly coming out of anyone’s mouth in this political campaign. And why is everyone expecting the government to do something? The people are the government…

  9. Awake says:

Ask Jonathan Smith what he thinks of this! He seems to believe that crime is under control! I guess he would think this as long as he continues to believe he was a great Commissioner of Police…NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • RFK JFK MLK says:

Jonathon Smith was a useless police commissioner, I’m honestly suprised the PLP would want him.

      • Choir Boy (Original) says:

Of course they want him – he’s white. Its the PLPs chance to say they have a white guy so they are not just for blacks. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Pathetic Lying Party – vote them out on the 17th.

        • Just Us says:

@ Choir Boy: What party isn’t lying? Or should I ask, which fools do you believe? Birds of one feather flock together… I got a tunnel to sell you… SMDH

    • Opressed says:

Johnathan Smith was and will always be, the worst police commissioner this island has ever seen. Under his watch we went from no gangs to all out ghetto warfare. The PLP government denied the whole gang thing right from jump, they must have figured “this too shall pass”, well it’s gotten worse.

  10. JT says:

“Scared of the punks”? No. Cautious? Yes. I can tell you I am certainly considerate of where I am and when now days. I know many people are the same.

    • Just Us says:

@ JT: Speak for yourself… I don’t have any beef in any of this. Who have you been talking to?

  11. RFK JFK MLK says:

Not political, and a good government itself couldn’t prevent this, but a better public education system might have.

    • Blurt says:

And better opportunities, better parenting, better team building in school, more pride in positive achievements and someone giving a damn about the. They say angels can help, there are angels on our shoulders, always. Listen to them.

    • tricks are for kids says:

I don’t think you can blame the education system…if THAT were the case then ALL the young people would be participating in this nonsence. ..but they are not…you have students overseas excelling in colleges and universities. .lets call a “spade a spade”
And lay the blame at the feet of the individuals who are CHOOSING to do the wrong thing.. .THEY need to be accountable for THEIR choices…stop making excuses…

      • Just Us says:

@ tricks are for kids: I agree with you. some children have better parents then others… some parents don’t give a shyt what or where their children are or what they do.

    • Free says:

The education system has nothing to do with it. It’s the deadbeat parents who are responsible. End of. I’m talking mothers and fathers, although most of them don’t even know what a father is.

This island is doomed to hell with this new generation and the brats they will spawn in the future and now. Just go out and look around at how these kids and some adults act-like wild animals. No respect, no concept of behaving yourself and acting like a decent human being. Things won’t change until the family unit does and the way things are looking, that won’t be anytime soon. Being a single parent and having multiple children for multiple people is now the norm. These hood-rats running the streets and breeding are ruining this social aspect of this island. That’s the truth.

  12. Precious says:

To the family of the victim my prayers are with you all. We must all remember GOD is in control and not the THUGS. It’s time to put down the GUNS and pick up the BIBLE. God Bless you all.

    • M.P.Mountbatten JP says:

The bible is one vicious book , full of killings and murders . When I got to the part where they’re about to kill Jesus I just couldn’t take it anymore . They beheaded Stephen , and Herod was committing infanticide daily .

      • Choir Boy (Original) says:

If God was in control he’d stop this cr@p from happening. God is obviously not up to the job – fire his @ss I’d say. He’s a slacker in my opinion.

      • dthtoo/ says:

M.P.Mountbatten JP, My directive to you is the same as the one I’ve sent to Precious. Check it out and then let me hear your shout too. I give ear!

    • dthtoo/ says:

Precious, don’t bring GOD into this. You need to study the origin of the BIBLE and the purpose for which it is still being used – by whom and on whom.

I encourage you to run to the internet and type in Dr. Ray Hagins on YouTube, turn on your speakers, click on any one of his videos and keep an open mind. The ride to the TRUTH is going to be rough, but it’s going to be well worth it. Return to this comments corner and let me hear your shout. I’m going to be listening.

  13. Truth is killin' me... says:

Guns don’t kill people, ignorant people kill people!

  14. confused says:

There is something I feel a lil confused about smh I drove through that road at about 4:45 and there was a heavy police presence at docking stool and now ya tellin me that 15 mins later there was a shooting a drving distance of 2 mins away smh! And no I want restricted from driving in that direction so I am quite sure it happened after I drove through but my point is there were 3 cars 4 bikes parked at docking stool and a shooting 100mtrs away WOW is all I can say smh

    • MJ says:

…you sure are. Where is “docking stool”
There is a Ducking Stool on the north shore,
at the end of Black Watch Pass……………

      • confused says:

Alright dumb f$%^ the point isn’t in the spelling of the place the point was the fact that poloice where in the area at the time of the shooting! Ya prob one of the dumb a$%es involved to take the spelling of the place so serious rather than the fact that a person was shot at!

  15. PLP but not the Government says:

    Still praying for change!!!!

  16. diva says:

The PLP, OBA nor the alarming army of Independants DO NOT have control over how these individuals are raised, how their behaviour is condoned at home or what they are involved in! Stop continuing to make this a political issue! What do you want or expect the government to do when these thugs and their ill gotten gains are welcomed in their households? When the previous government allowed discipline to be taken out of the home? When people allow their children to “act” out their lives instead of taking the time to teach them how to live their lives responsibly, be decent citizens and take pride in their own country? The foundation for good behaviour starts in the home! So stop blaming the government for these hellion’s behaviour and thinking that another government, if elected, can wave their magic wands in the air and make these problems disappear overnight.

  17. Rockfish#! and#2 says:

@ Awake and RFK JFK MLK,

Your assessment of Smith is correct, however political parties choose individuals for a number of reasons. Similarly, individuals choose political parties for a number of reasons.

Zane and Jonathan were chosen for the same reason,(tokens?) and they both accepted for the same reason.($$$?) Surely you have figured this out already.

  18. James Goodfellow says:

This should be politicised. Bermuda has never been so bad and who do I blame? Yes the PLP and the people who vote for them. The example the party sends to our youngsters is disgusting. Their own leadership have family members who are serious criminals and how can we expect the gang members to respect authority when the PLP nominate a candidate that is a convicted felon and a violent thug. This party has run our country into the ground and their members and supporters should be ashamed of themselves.

    • ??? says:

Lots of people have family members who are serious criminals…
Politicians in Bermuda are everyday people with everyday problems…let’s be real. Also, the only convicted felon you should be worrying about is the one in your party.

      • James Goodfellow says:

Yes I agree lots of people in the PLP have serious criminals in their family.
I really have no particular liking for the OBA I just hate the PLP. Re the OBA criminal I believe that convicted felons should not be able to run for government but I will take a thief over an attempted murderer and thug any day of the week.

  19. Small fry says:

Expect more of this as those who may have left the fold are directed to follow “ET”….

  20. Mad Dawg says:

    Jonathan Smith, August 2012:

Smith: ‘Making Sure & Steady Progress On Crime’
    August 8, 2012 | 17 Comments
“While we have more work to do, I’m glad to see that we’re making sure and steady progress bringing crime under control. ……. it’s clear that progress is being made.
“We know that there is more work to do, but, we are glad to say that when it comes to crime, we are standing strong for Bermudians by making Bermuda a safer place to live and raise a family,” concluded Senator Smith.

No mention of the governor. Just Jonathan Smith, making political capital out of crime statistics. So if you think government can’t be held accountable for crime, the PLP disagrees with you.

  21. young man says:

The ubp I mean the oba aint abouut nothing, all u white people don’t like to see black people as the government, when u was the goverenment the people of this country where not treated fair

    • Mad Dawg says:

Your wonderful PLP government didn’t manage to teach you how to string a sentence together though, did it.

      • TEE says:

You either, did it. What the hell is that? DID IT!!!!!!

        • Mad Dawg says:

How would you have phrased the sentence then, genius?

The government is a singular entity.

    • Observant says:

And under the current government we’re ALL getting screwed.

  22. lynne harper says:

At TERRY! We are all entitled to voice our thoughts. You may disagree but to call me a moron?! Accusing me of being a part of the blight! If you knew me you would not use such hard words. I live near the Bandroom area and have not been ignorant to what is going on. It sickens me! It scares me! Calling me a moron is unnecessary. My comment does not suggest which government I even support if any! It’s your over the top criticism that intimidates people from voicing their opinions. Like I said, if you knew me, my character, my beliefs, my career you would not call me a moron. Can’t you just disagrree?

  23. TJ says:

Real idiots if you believe any political party can stop this ignorance from happening. These lil punks will continue to do this no matter who wins because they have no value for anyone’s lives including theirs.

All we can do is pray…

  24. lynne harper says:

For Terry- it is YOU’RE meaning you are not YOUR! You told me to read what I wrote!

  25. Terry says:

All these incident happen in predominately black areas.
    Go figure.
Nothing to do with white areas as this would make any government stand up and be counted.
Blacks are dispensible because they prey on their own.
    Simple logic.
    Good night.

    • lynne harper says:

Good night! You still did not have to call me a moron.

    • Wake up says:

Oh really! The same idiots that feel their safe because they don’t live in a black area are the ones that are in the most shock when it happens in their backyards. Haven’t you noticed this is an island wide epidemic shootings are happening in Smiths , Devonshire, Somerset, Warwick all over. Wake up don’t think cause your white your immune to this issue we are all in the middle of this.

  26. Duh says:

sooo your cctv camera dont work?

  27. Grizz says:

This is my Godson that these DEMON SEED MONSTERS shot!! I hope you all die of long suffering evil deaths…You have no regard for human life…you dumb, uneducated John Wayne wannabes!! Someone needs to drive a truck over your asses, back up and do it again. And yes, I am speaking to you directly cause I know ya dumb asses look on here to see how much of the spotlight you got! YOU ARE WORTHLESS COWARDS!

  28. wayne says:

@grizz i understand your pain n why your upset but really???you just as bad as them cuz you wishing death on somebody,so be the mature person you are and keep that folish talk to yh self for cring out loud,it’s a damn shame that this happen you godson by have respect for yourself and act like an adult…

    • Grizz says:

@ Wayne I highly doubt you understand how I feel! He who feels it knows it my dear..u can call it foolish all u like but when u have been to as many funerals as I have your tolerance level drops. And as far as your last comment goes…I have never had to ACT like an adult, an adult is what I am. You want to talk to someone about respect…find the a$%holes that shot my Godson. It’s always easy to judge someone when it hasn’t affected you. I guess I’m being disrespectful again…Wayne spare me your lectures!

      • Truth is killin' me... says:

Hey Grizz…WTFU! Ask your godson why he was targeted, I bet you he knows why but he won’t tell you. Take your anger out on him if you really love him! A lot of these guys are doing a pack and when the heat comes down on them they want everybody feel sorry for them!!! These punk ass shooters are ruining our whole island.

        • Grizz says:

@truthiskillingme…sounds like you are making assumptions not stating facts. Yet u still state the obvious…THE SHOOTINGS are ruining our island..and maybe you should define “doing a pack” because last time I checked that didn’t constitute somebody puttin a bullet in ya ass!

          • Nanny Pat says:

Seriously Grizz – do your job as this young man’s Godparent and get him out of the situation he is obviously in. Gangsters aren’t shooting at random innocent people. Your Godson was, and still is since he’s not dead, a target. You need to step up your game as a Godparent and sort this young man out. Send him abroad if you want to save his life in the future. You might want to save his family too because more than likely, they will be targeted too.

And for anyone else out there with sons and Godsons, do your job ahead of time so you don’t ever get into this situation!!!

            • Grizz says:

@Nanny Pat, the fact that you’ve said “gangsters aren’t shooting at random innocent people” leads me to believe that you really aren’t aware of what’s going on. They shoot SOMETIMES because of associations and to me that’s the same as being innocent. You want me to save him, then you ask me to save his family….Pat am I God?

        • Ole says:

@truth – this kid is no shooter so stfu…you stupid ignorant piece of manure..

  29. eyeking says:

@wayne you will only understand were his coming frm if this happen to you ..this is serious he cld have lost his life like the rest of them. his only talkin out anger. stupid young wanna be’s r tryna be some1 there nt i bet you if they bring some crazy ass jamaicans here they would be scared to step out on there porch.

  30. BIG MON says:

ay plato ya dum or something the governor controls the regiment stupid n the leading party runs the police freak go back school

    • Rockfish says:

The Governor also controls the Police. The ruling party wants control but have yet to get it. The local gov provides the yearly funding – nothing else.

      • Mad Dawg says:

But Jonathan Smith says the PLP is in control of crme rates. You can’t have it both ways.

You take credit for crime rates when it suits you, and then blame the governor when there is bad news.

Typical PLP. Never take any responsibility for anything you screw up.

      • Victor says:

Blah, blah, blah Rockfish, still making excuses are we?

  31. Bermudican says:

Just because someone was not nearby that does not mean that these incidents were not observed.
Someone might have seen someone dapping round the corner entering Glebe Hill road with some one chasing him down doing the same thing..
Police should make the area little bit wider than the nose in front of their face.

    just saying…

  32. Victor says:

All these incidents as they are called could be solved and dealt with very quickly if we all stopped being a bunch of pathetic apologists for these brats and instead supported basic law and order, including the jailing of hostile witnesses for contempt. Sadly I fear that day will only arrive when an important expat or kin of one, or tourist gets caught in the crossfire – regardless of who wins this election. Nonetheless, I will cast my vote OBA as I believe the looting of the national wealth by those who have hijacked a formerly legitimate and reputable political movement are a big cause of a lot of this due to the trickle down effect of their immorality….

  33. Mr Happy says:

When was the last time a totally innocent, random person was chased down and shot?

    Just asking.

    • Ole says:

      Yesterday moron..jus sayin…

      • Mr Happy says:

Mate, as soon as you resort to name-calling, you lose the argument.
People do not usually get accidentally and randomly shot in Bermy.
If this kid really is innocent, I apologise.

  34. watching says:

The governor is in charge of the Police.
The government controls the police. full stop!!

    ANALOGY
Your father is the head of the household.
You are scared SH&%t of your mother because she goes ballistic(no pun intended) when she gets upset.

  35. kevin says:

Well its quite apparent that the penalties are not severe enough for these young men to think about. Here’s a thought (A) I understand that it costs us approx $80k a year to imprison someone. I am quite sure there are countries that would take our prisoners for $50k a year. Some believe our prison is too soft I’ve never been there so if it is then this is an option.(B) increase penalties. Murder -if it was up to me the death penalty would be back in but as it isn’t- Life no chance of parole, shooting and injuring 50 years parole only an option after 40 years served. Shooting with no injury 40 years parole only an option after 35 years. In possession of a firearm 30 years parole after 20 served. The penalty must match the crime. No one said it would be easy and it won’t but it does start at an early age and we have lost the thought “that it takes a village to raise a child” We all need to become our brothers keeper.

  36. Rockfish#1 and#2 says:

Can anyone provide evidence that stiffer penalties have any effect on this type of crime?

    • JT says:

Using that logic there should be no penalties.

      • Rockfish#1 and#2 says:

        JT,

Not at all. Studies have shown that countries which impose the death penalty have no decrease in the number of murders committed.

It is unlikely that stiffer penalties will deter these thugs from their activities.

  37. Jus sayin says:

Since we are a British Dependent Territory, the Governor represents Britain and oversees the Police and Regiment. The Governor doesn’t run the day-to-day operations but has the final say and signs off on appointments, policies and legislation as the Commander in Chief of Bermuda. If the Government of the day had full and absolute control over the police/regiment, we could end up with a police state or dictatorship (which is what former Premier Brown and Col. Burch tried unsuccessfully to do). This is all part of the necessary checks and balances to ensure good governance and democracy. Just like the person who handles the cash should not be the one to balance the chequebook and bank statements. Checks and balances. One who oversees policy. The other running the day to day operations. I may not have every detail correct here, but please look this up online, maybe on the Government portal what the Governor’s role is. He has to oversee, review and make big decisions and is not sitting idle at Government House, like a few people have suggested. Do your own research rather than just shooting your mouth off. Otherwise you’re just spreading ignorance.

  38. diva says:

WOW! If any of us here have any ounce of human compassion, you will notice that Grizz’s comments bought an element of humanity to a situation that some have chosen to politicise, racially define and call one another names over. It makes you think about it from a totally different perspective. Another human life has been targeted. Another person in our society has committed a heinous act and continues to walk among us. Yes, the action is animalistic, but it was done by a member or members of our population. No matter what side of the spectrum they may come from, these are people we are talking about. What can we do collectively to get the people in our island to come together, decide we’ve had enough of this crap and be willing to do something to stomp it out? We’ll never come to any clear answers until we stop with the Blame Game and handle business. Stop with the “Not In My Backyard” mentality. We are 20 square miles ladies and gentleman. We all share those backyards. And front yards too!

    • Terry says:

      Well said Diva.
In reality your comments are spot on.
More of a family quarell gone Hatfields/McCoys.
Greed and class has taken enough of out youth.

  39. Unjust Realities!!!! says:

First of all, let me say I feel for any young person or any person gunned down in this foolishness. However, we as a people, a black people since it is well documented that this happening in our black community, have to stop living in a fantasy world and take our own community back.

Where do we start? We start at home!!!!! Fathers, who have left their sons to be raised by their mothers singly . . . take your place!!! Step up and take a hold of your sons and let them know that their behavior is not and will not be acceptable. Stop sitting back acting like you don’t know what your children are involved in!!! Mothers, mothers stop acting like you don’t know what your child/children are involved in!!! If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck . . .you know damn well it’s a duck, meaning . . . if your child does not have a job, but has money, materialistic things and is running with known gang memebers or has gang signs and symbols tattooed on their body, you know exactly what they are into. Take a stand of LOVE!!!! Go to the police and say “My son is gang affiliated . . .point blank!!!!!

To those of us as a people are laying the blame of this nonsense at the hands of the government in power, offer a solution from an opposing government to solve this problem. I am quite sure that the government of the day is at a lost as to what to do!! If those who are supporters and members of the opposing government, give us the people a strategic plan as how you plan to eradicate this problem . . .please note I said a strategic plan!!!! Otherwise all we are talking about is electioneering!!!!

Outside of the parental problem, a larger impeding problem is that we live on a 20 square mile island where many members of the police department know the parents and/or family of the perpertrators and/or victims involved in these shootings. And for those officers who are of foreign nationality, they have been here so long that they have befriended or become too familiar with these persons, for whatever reasons, that they are unable to separate their ethical professional duties from the alliances that they have forged.

Let’s stop with the paradise mindset . . . it’s gone!!! Our young people are identifying and living the life they see and hear about in other countries!!!!

  40. Hey F–K you john your talking like A B&*CH—

  41. Y-Gurl says:

Time to change the management of the police service we pay so much for, clearly these crimes are way out of the skill set of the current police, the silent commissioner should be the first to go then all the other useless and ineffective top dogs should be next, we have a police service that get no respect and catch no criminals time for change

  42. Nicki k says:

WOW! This is the second time someone has been called a moron for writing what is on their minds! Really? I am also surprised that Terry agrees with diva! Lol! You must have missed her earlier post. I am so sure based on your previous posts that you would disagree with her first one. Even though it makes sense. She said what several others are saying about – blaming!
