March 27, 2013

The City of Hamilton today announced this year’s City Art Festival dates. Events Project Manager, Ms. Danilee Trott stated, “This year’s City Art Festival will take place from April 26 to May 14. There are new elements that have been added to enhance this year’s events.

“Working in conjunction with the Bermuda Society for the Arts [BSOA], the Department of Tourism and the Department of Cultural Affairs, we will host an art competition on April 26. Bermuda artists are invited to submit entries based on this year’s heritage month theme, ‘The colors, sights and sounds of Bermuda’. All entries must be submitted to the BSOA by 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

“We welcome all forms of art that reflect the theme. The exhibition will be juried. Artists are asked to submit two pieces of work and the judges will select a winner and runner up. The winner will receive $1,000.00, an art exhibition at BSOA, communications and marketing support leading up to the exhibition, and memberships at BSOA and BNG, if not already a member. The runner up will receive $500.00 in cash.

“Both winners will be announced during Art in the Dark on April 26. The People’s Choice Award winner will receive $500.00 and the announced on May 14, at the end of the exhibition. This will give members of the public time to visit BSOA to cast their votes. Entry forms for the competition can be found on the City of Hamilton website at www.corporationofhamilton.bm or they can be collected from City Hall’s administration offices or from the BSOA.

“Art in the Dark will take place in the foyer and in front of City Hall on April 26 starting at 5:30pm. In addition to live entertainment, artists will be at work and displaying their art. There will be vendors, free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

“On Saturday, April 27, we will host Art in the Park, again in front of City Hall. This is fun, free family event. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy the art and entertainment that will be available from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. We will have graffiti walls for teens. Once completed, the walls will be placed in various locations around the city as street art during Heritage Month. There will be food, face painting, a fun castle, lots of arts and crafts related activities for children of all ages.”

Ms. Trott concluded, “We look forward to hosting residents and visitors alike at this year’s art festival. We continue to look for new and exciting ways to include local artists in our activities. I must also thank the Bermuda Department of Tourism, the Department of Cultural Affairs, BSOA and BNG for their support for this year’s festival.”
