Overturned Crane Causes Traffic Diversion
[Updated with video] Traffic is being advised to avoid the area of South Shore Road and Paynters Road after a crane working in the area fell into a ditch a short time ago this afternoon [Mar 6].
“Another crane is being brought in to assist and will have to be positioned in the road resulting in traffic not being able to pass,” a police spokesperson said.
Details are limited, however we will update with information as able.

How come these cranes and wide heavy trucks don’t have Police escorts like they used to have years gone by!? Now they just bomb along the road with a get out of the way attitude.

I don’t know about that. I’ve seen many a crane too wide coming down the road with a heavy truck in front with just the blinkers on…no Police.
Police have better things to do than to escort cranes. As long as there is an escort of some kind, why complain??

the crane fell into a pit that gave way! no one knew a pit was there. there hasnt been and pit detectors made as of yet. no one was hurt. reeson for no police escorts is because they say that there to busy!!

The Police stop giving escorts a long time ago …they will do it if the vehicle is extra long or wide. Most people see a construction company escort vehicle and will still not give it the respect due and when you look it causes a delay or an accident. People don’t respect the police that much either, but no one wants a ticket for due care these days. At common sense, Truth is Killin’ me asked a good question and it was in no way referring to the site or the accident. Do you think those cranes were airlifted onto construction sites?
