Wall Completed, Devon Spring Road Opens

May 23, 2013

The Minister of Public Works Trevor Moniz today [May 23] announced that Devon Spring Road, 63 South Road, Devonshire, is now officially re-opened to traffic with the completion of the new retaining wall.

“The primary objective of this project was to make the wall safe for residents and the public and then re-open the road to traffic,” Minister Moniz said. “The public and the community can now be assured that this objective has been achieved.”

Minister Moniz, Minister Michael Dunkley and the Minister of Finance and area representative, Bob Richards, inspecting the newly completed Devon Spring Road:

The Minister said that residents have been looking forward to the re-opening of Devon Spring Road and have patiently awaited the construction of the wall.

“I would like to thank the Engineers within my Ministry for their design of this wall as well as Brown and Company Ltd. for working in a professional manner that has seen this project into fruition,” said the Minister.

“I am very pleased that we have remained steadfast in our determination to resolve the project’s challenges. Public safety was a paramount consideration and I am very pleased that a secure and adequate wall design has been constructed under the direction of senior technical officers of the Highways section of the Ministry.”

“We are extremely satisfied that the new retaining wall will meet the needs of residents for many years to come and that access to Devon Spring Road is once again open to traffic and free from any danger to the public.”

The Minister added: “I would like to thank local residents and landowners for their cooperation and patience in working with us to move towards the re-opening of Devon Spring Road.”

…and also a big thank you to PLP electioneering!

  2. Hmmmmm says:

The hypocrisy of politics on full display. In November, Bob Richards criticised this project and the award of the contract as political interference and corruption. Today he’s happy to be pictured astride the results. Of course, history began on December 17th 2012.

Of course you would not remember the opening of the new airport arrivals area very shortly after the PLP was elected in 1998. The PLP took full credit for that very large project. Much hoopla over the official opening. Too bad nobody from the UBP, the Government which made it happen, was invited to the party.

      • Hmmmmm says:

Are you allowed to mention the UBP in OBA-land? I thought that never happened? Why are you protecting the legacy of a group you denied existed during the campaign?Hopefully this road doesn’t fall apart like the airport has; the same airport that didn’t have any bathrooms in its design. But when that happens with the UBP its an “oversight”; between 1998-2012 it had so many other names. I remember everything.

Mr Richards has been working for years to have the road reopened. I know, I live there and have met with him during the years about this and he sent letters out to keep us updated about the situation.
The only time I ever saw a PLP rep. was leading up to the last election and the issue of the road being reopened was mentioned.

If anyone has a problem about the road being reopened, don’t drive on it.

(Flamers, don’t waste your time as I won’t be checking for your responses. I have some driving to do.)
