Both Named Goalkeepers Out Of Game

June 4, 2013

Both goalkeepers — Freddy Hall and Dale Eve — that had been named to the Bermuda Team for tonight’s [June 4] match against the “England C” team will not be playing. Hall has pulled out due to an injury, while Dale Eve is unavailable for selection.

The BFA has not responded to multiple requests for clarification made over the past 36 hours, however when they named the team a few days ago Dandy Town goalkeeper Daniel Johnson was listed as a standby.

The Bermuda team that was named on May 30th was John Nusum [Captain], Freddy Hall [now out], Dale Eve [now out], Lejaun Simmons, Tre Ming, Reggie Lambe, Roger Lee, Jason Davis, Dante Leverock, Taurean Manders, Keishen Bean, Ashton Bell, Damon Ming, Tyrell Burgess, Drewonde Bascome, Domico Coddington, Jonte Smith and Antwan Russell. Standbys: Dominique Williams, Daniel Johnson and Angelo Simmons.

Tonight’s match kicks off at 7.30pm at the National Stadium. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youth, while children and seniors are free. Professional footballer Nahki Wells — who recently became the first Bermudian to score at the iconic Wembley Stadium — will not be playing, but will be in attendance at the match.

where can the public buy tickets in advance for tonight’s game? or in usual Bermuda style are we all going to be crowding in a line outside on the road while the game is going on…

    • Rich says:

Start with contacting the BFA and BTW, attempt to keep an open mind

    • Ole says:

@ Openmind – try to avoid the usual tardy nature of us Bermudians and arrive at the gates well in advance..try not to shout abuse when Bermuda lose the ball or resist the ” get the ball over comment ” cause you heard it on channel 53…..Go easy my brotha..be calm…have a few beers..maybe a hotdog, with or without mayo, your call… and most importantly, try to keep an openmind if Bermuda are being outplayed..

      • openmind says:

@ Ole… its hard to avoid when nothing ever changes… some people aren’t able to get there ‘early’… its not hard to sell tickets online… after all that might reduce the costs associated for the BFA… more tickets purchased in advance would mean greater efficiency, which means less man power hours needed, which in turn helps reduce the debt we are in now… everything relates in the circle of life… its about the big picture for our country!

        • Ole says:

@ Openmind — life is way to short and another day not promised – live free and relax Grasshopper!

Did you write circle of life? No way!!!

          • Ole says:

@open — and big picture..Dude if you utter the words think out of the box, I’m going to have to report you to the cliche’ society, for abuse of privilege…jus sayin!!

            • Chris Furbert says:

Nahki Wells is a national icon. We should be thanking him for putting Bermuda on the map once again

      • Smoke n Mirrors says:

        Ole are you Brazilian?

    • Israh says:

Get in line bozo!! By the way, stay in your lane!

Previous announcements indicate that the BFA plan to honour Mr. Wells at half time. So let me see if I get this right. The young man has had a very good year in what is effectively the 4th division; but very good year just the same. He is back on island and will not put on the Bermuda jersey to play against the England C. Accurate so far? OK lets continue; maybe he’s burnt out from such a long season and needs his rest before heading back for pre-season training.Still on track?Clearly his season was far more gruelling than Cole, & Lampard et al, who hopped on a plane after their season ended, headed to the US to play in 2 exhibition games for Chelsea before making that long trek to Rio to play for England against Brazil. Maybe their season was not as taxing as Mr. Wells’ season. Or maybe they look forward to playing for England but Mr. Wells is just to tired or maybe he doesn’t want to risk injury or maybe Bermuda hasn’t done enough for him and so why should he. No, he didn’t play in Bermuda leagues, get to play for Bermuda at the youth national level, play for the Hogges who where heavily financed by the BFA. But the BFA are going to honour this kid at half-time. His career has just started and yet we plan to honour him as though he has a full body of work, and oh, by the way, honour him at half time of a Bermuda International, in which he has made the decison not to play in.

    • Enforcer says:

I totally agree – take nothing away from his accomplishments this season, however, he should be the first one running out on the field with the Bermuda colours on. It wasn’t hard for him to drape himself in the Bermuda flag, so he does love his country and support.

      • Intelligent Growth says:

What’s up with one’s love affair with a national flag? Americans drape themselves in the flag as if its an innate object – speaks to their soul. Its knitted polyester people! Hug your mom, kiss your spouse, clench your child, respect your friends and shake the hand of a foe.

    • Shhhhh i'm in Vegas says:

Did BFA pay his airfare back to island? Things that make you say hmmmmmmmm

  3. Bill Maher says:

Hmmmmmmmm. Can anyone explain why this young man isn’t available for Nat’l team duty? Did we(Bermuda) wrong him in the past? Club over country? Is there not any national pride left in Bermuda anymore? Would he prefer to be called up for English Nat’l team? After all England developed him, right? Did he play for Dandy Town in a previous life? Did Arnold Manders kick him off the field during cricket season? Was he required to pay club dues? Did he train too many times in the rain? Were his boots paid for? Did the community club cover his health insurance?

  4. Devil in the Details says:

Wow! Good point about honoring a 22 year old. Are we bypassing the Hall of Fame inductions which are normally passed out at the the end of an athlete’s career. Was Pele honored before he won the World Cup for Brazil? Did Germany honor Franz Beckenbauer (sp.) before winning anything significant? Perhaps, I should check the factbook on this. Incredible if proven correct! Bermuda is really another world, real cutting edge aren’t we!

  5. Honey badger says:

Gosh! I just was looking for tickets but amazed by the comments. Wells isn’t suiting up this evening? Will tickets be offered at a reduced rate. What no keepers!!!! Surely BFA can reduce the admission. Who will stand between the sticks? Okay, let me call Cat Nusum on his cell.

    • Ernesto Falcao says:

Cat Nusum has retired almost 30 years now! Pink up some cash you cheap IB worker

  6. Mark Seinfeld says:

Bloody nora! Only star will be Reggie Lambe on the field. Berlusconi has a home in Tucker’s Town. Surely some AC Milan players are vacationing during offseason. Make the call!

  7. Buck Rodgers says:

Seinfeld you don’t know jack! Milan players vacation in the Maldives with Berlusconi’s ladies

    • Danvers says:

What does this have to do with the Bda National squad?

  8. Baretta says:

Nakia is quality! May get scooped up by 3rd division club. Weird that he doesn’t want any parts of Bermuda national team. Does his family support the position? Wash is dad a baller too?

    • Scarlett Johansson says:

Does he have a girlfriend? I can take him back to Barcelona with me :-)

      • Group think says:

Easy Scarlett’s web! Let him earn a lil’ before you deprive him of most. Groupie!

  9. Angry Birds says:

Nahki Wells is the best thing since sliced bread. How dare you talk down about this GIANT in the game! Legend in his own time.

    • Hungry Bird says:

Hey Angry! The young man is only 22 years old. With all due respect he plays in the English 4th division(League 2). One of their competitors are Dagenham & Redbridge F.C. which are comprised of a bunch of part time footballers – drive lorries Monday through Friday.

We are putting waaaay to much pressure on this young man! He has talent but ease up on the accolades until his playing career has fully developed.
