College Student Admits Importing BB Guns

July 12, 2013

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [July 12] a 22-year-old college student admitted importing a prohibited weapon into Bermuda in April 2013

Shaquille Crockwell  pleaded guilty to a charge of importing a prohibited weapon [two .25 cal BB guns, magazines, and ammunition for the guns] and was remanded into custody.

Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told the Senior Magistrate that on April 22, 2013, Bermuda Customs officers at the airport intercepted the items after they had pulled Mr Crockwell from the ‘nothing to declare’ line.

Customs officers searched his bags and backpack and found the weapon parts and ammunition spread throughout his luggage.

On further investigation by a Police weapons expert, the parts were assembled and were found to complete two .25 cal BB handguns, magazines that would fit the handguns, and ammunition that was usable in both guns.

The Magistrate ordered a  Social Inquiry Report process, set sentencing for July 26, and ordered him held in remand until that date. Duty Counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson said that Crockwell was supposed to return to an engineering college in the USA and was due to fly out tomorrow.

    Good work Customs!!!

    • Out of flight says:

To them it is just a toy.

      • Joe dirt says:

Great bust bet that will top 2013 . Great work half of your criminals that work at customs!

        • Devils Advocate says:

Joe dirt is madd, but ya boys a lame for this and hes going to jail and hes on the stop list and his future is over once he is convicted, there are much smarter ways to import anything illegal what a dummy. Furthermore as an engineer he could design and machine a gun from scratch, this guys a lemon.

  2. Joonya says:

See, this is where the court system needs to get tough.
He knew these were illegal, and we all know what the intent would be for them, and it sure aint for shooting squirrels..

    • Joe dirt says:

Oh since when r u the the judge, maybe he wanted to shot lizards. Hope you never get a second chance!

  3. Doin' the Dip says:

    What an idiot…

  4. slow potato says:

so stupid, he risked his future for a 2 bb guns.

    • Worry says:

He also failed college keep focused young man

  5. Toodle-oo says:

What the he** was going through this idiot’s mind ? Where has he been living all his life ? Spending too much time on bb messenger , facebook , twitter and oovoo to probably even know what the laws are probably.

Personally , I’d expect a lot more smarts from someone persuing an engineering career but he had the ‘smarts’ to go to the nothing to declare line so something was going on .

    • Joe dirt says:

The devil made him do it, coming from devils isles.

  6. Charter says:

After gun running, I doubt he’ll be going back to the US anytime soon.

    • Joe dirt says:

Thanks to our sweet country Bermuda which makes us the criminal. There’s your dinner.

      • Joe dirt says:

Might as well sell drugs now. Got to make a living somehow.

      • Joe dirt says:

Which in the USA is not criminal to have a BB gun I must add.

  7. enginerd says:

hmmm Not the brightest future engineer.

Even though we used to shoot friends for fun with BB guns at school and have proven to be harmless (excluding pump action bb guns), given the recent string of weapon related crimes, this “engineer” should get at least a year in jail for being an idiot.

As an engineer you should know NOT to make mistakes like these. Luckily this mistake did not cost anyone their life. Learn your lesson and then get back to work!

    • Nuffin but da Truth says:

at close range a bb gun can blind, maime or even kill,
don’t type crap you cannot prove!

  8. Hey says:

Why don’t we castrate all gun related and gang member related criminals.
If they can’t look after themselves and act responsibily, then how can we expect any of their potential future offspring to stand a chance in being looked after properly and responsibly.

It’s a thought. Definately would be a deterant…..Just throwing the off the cuff thought out there.

  9. Ride says:

Why, oh why, would he throw it all away on something so stupid as a BB-gun. I’m guessing he was studying some engineering discipline which, on successful completion, would have afforded him countless legal and gainful opportunities in most job markets. I just don’t understand why someone with apparently such a bright future who is active in realising that outcome would engage in something so terribly stupid.

He’s going to go on the stop-list and that is the end of his visits to the US. So many people would kill to be active in opportunity he just cast aside. I’d really like to know why he did this.

  10. Name says:

To all you stupid f**** that dont know the complete story shut the f*** up & keep you comments to yourself ! All you a** on here were prolly playing with bb guns when you was young ! & lets not forget those guns were sold in bermuda ! & who the f*** said he was a gang member ? All of you dumb a** that dont know dont assume !

  11. Name says:

& maybe you all need to go to the US & get an education so you can get a decent job & stop worrying about everyone else’s business

    • Douglas says:

Sounds like the only people who NEED an education are you and your gun smuggling mate. Ever heard of a period at the end of a sentence?!

    • Joe dirt says:

      Yep.

  12. realist says:

    Hahaha at name.

if he is such an upstanding citizen as you would lead us to belive. Why then were guns dissasembled and in dif psrts of luggage. He knew it was illegal. Point an match there.
but for further argument. Maybe he was unaware of said items bulls**t. Hmmmmm how many imitation forearms have been used in robberys etc.
so why dont u go get a education and atop tryin protect ur homeboy.
ya ive neen away ive had fun with toys but as a smart productive member of society. I know when to put childish things aside.

    • Joe dirt says:

You r so smart that you can’t even spell.

    • Joe dirt says:

Are you the prefect citizen? Never made a mistake or did no wrong. Never broken a law? WELL EXCUSE ME!!!!!

  13. Roger says:

Clearly an idiot to try to bring them in, but these are toys.

  14. Miguelito says:

Hmmm…I bet they didn’t LOOK like toys, Roger. This guy is a complete fool!

  15. let it be known says:

He is a young boy who is good kid but made a bad mistake. You all have your opinions but remember that you as a younger kid and probably at your age now have made them as well a will probably make them again they may not be as big or they might but you will not want anyone to put it out there to make you feel worse. Please put yourself in the families shoes if this was a member of your family would you want to read what they have.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Smuggling a gun. That’s quite a big “mistake”.

      • Joe dirt says:

        It’s not a gun it’s a toy u can buy them at
Walmart. Stop makin criminals out of our youths

        • Joe dirt says:

Bermuda people need to wake the hell up and get with the rest of the world. U wonder why u have issues.

          • Joe dirt says:

His life is ruined because of your dumb a** laws. All bermy is doing is creating criminals out of decent human beings.

            • Joe dirt says:

I’m Bermudians and f*** this country.

              • Joe dirt says:

                Narrow minded people.

                • Joe dirt says:

If any of you idiots where allowed to have a gun and someone broke into your house, u would shot them on the spot. But yet u r so hypocritical to dam the gun. Let alone a BB gun. Most of you are afraid of your own shadow. I remember making a bow and arrow when I was younger. Guess I would be a criminal today if I made them now.

        • Just Another Young Bermudian Voice says:

What’s your point? You can buy real firearms and ammunition at Walmart as well. I agree, he may not be a criminal, just a young man who has made a bad/stupid decision, BUT the fact is he brought something into our country that is considered illegal. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “toy”. That “toy” is illegal here, doesn’t matter if it’s legal in other countries.

      • Joe dirt says:

Smuggling huh , bet your kid or grand kid has a toy gun ,

    • Joe dirt says:

I agree with you but most of these comments on here r from people that don’t have a god dam clue about anything. Back in the day must of these idiots made sling shots and bows and arrows so what’s the f**** difference?

      • Joe dirt says:

        Lets get real…..

        • Joe dirt says:

If I brought fireworks into Bermuda I would be a criminal. What a f**** joke.

  16. RideorDie says:

LOOK ALL YOU PEOPLE DONT BE JUDGING HIM!! YOU DONT KNOW HIM OR THE STORY!! SO LAY DOWN AND GET A f***IN LIFE.
