Woman Charged: Stealing $8 Of Gum & Candy

September 18, 2013

Appearing in Magistrates Court yesterday [Sept 17], a 43-year-old mother admitted stealing $8 worth of gum and candy from a St George’s store.

Kelli Sue Miller pleaded guilty to stealing the items from Robertson’s Drugstore in July 2013, with the Court hearing the incident was captured on the store’s CCTV.

Miller’s lawyer, Richard Horseman, told the Magistrate that Ms Miller has underlying issues and that she was remorseful. The Senior Magistrate ordered pre-sentencing reports and ordered Ms Miller to re-appear in November for sentencing.

This is ridiculous!!! Taxpayers probably forked over thousands of dollars for time and labour spent on this case. When are we getting restorative justice. Make this girl work for the community to pay back her stolen items and the money we spent on this foolishness. Ugh!

  2. Shari-Lynn Pringle says:

I’m sorry but unless she has had a previous problem with Robertson’s, why would they press charges against someone for $8 of candy? I’m sorry but this just isn’t right. I agree with Youngster. Why didn’t the judge throw this case out? Maybe I’m missing something.

    • Harmony says:

It’s probably a matter of no tolerance no matter the amount. However, I don’t believe she should be called back which is wasting more money. I say give her community service and call it a day.

What if every customer stole 8$ worth of things?

She broke the law and I appauld Robertsons and law enforcement for taking a stand. When I see “she has underlying issues” this is more reason why she needs to be accountable for her actions. You have to hit a bottom or several before it really sinks in…………this humiliation may be that shift.

She should be ashamed of herself. Hope she Dont have any children. Mercy. What type of an example would she be setting as a mother.

  5. hmm says:

Really? $8? Why didn’t she just ask the store instead of stealing it? I’m sure they would’ve helped her if she said she didn’t have any money

She got caught stealing 66 dollars worth of groceries from the supermarket in St Georges a few months ago.I wouldnt want her anywhere near my house. How many times does she have to get caught? Maybe a custodial sentence will be in her best interest and ours! She is a thief and should be locked up!

Sounds like she has a problem, she has a compulsive disorder. She need help.
