Ten CBA Students Qualify For Double Enrollment

November 25, 2013

The Bermuda College held their College Placement Tests for CedarBridge Academy students earlier this month, producing 10 S4 students who qualified for dual enrollment. Those 10 students are now eligible to enroll in College Level courses in Freshmen English or College Algebra at Bermuda College in January.

The 10 honoured students join their fellows Rodneyka Browne-Evans Freeman, Caleb Darrell, Na’Twuan Fisher, MeShalae Hayward, and J. D. Symonds, each of whom qualified for dual enrollment at the end of their S3 year.

The dual enrollment programme is a partnership between Bermuda College and the two senior schools.

“I’m proud these students qualified; they did a great job,” said Robert Steede, Instructional Leader for Mathematics at CedarBridge Academy.

“I am proud they qualified for college level entry placement,” said Karen Simons, Instructional Leader for English, “and I look forward to even more students demonstrating that they can be placed in college level entry courses.”

The dual enrollment qualifiers [L-R]: Shalae Robinson, Rodneyka Browne-EvansFreeman, Japhia Lightbourne, J. D. Symonds, Tierra Souza-Wolffe, Tamia Bademosi, Attiyya Boyles, Jordan Casarano, Matthias Lawrence, and Na’Twuan Fisher. Missing are Taahira Butterfield, Shavondae Trott, Ezekiel Shiell, Caleb Darrell, and MeShalae Hayward.

  1. Grateful says:

Congratulations on this great achievement. Continue to work hard and strive for the best.

  2. Gina Davis says:

CedarBridge Academy just confirmed from Bermuda College, that Jaquan Hatherley, not pictured, sat the CPT in June, at the end of his S3 year and qualified for dual enrollment in both Freshmen English and College Algebra.

  3. Ruthless says:

Congratulations to all but I am lost! On graduating , what are the other graduates qualified for! Will they then have to do more classes before they enter a degree program? Also, what about the children that go overseas to university? Do they have to complete other classes before they start their degree? Help me out as I was unable to go overseas to school ! Sorry for being dumb to this!!!

    • Linda Franks says:

Dual enrolment means that they are both enrolled at CedarBridge (finishing their final year in High School)and at Bermuda College. These students can enroll in Freshman English and College Algebra at the Bermuda College in January.

    • Pre College Courses says:

Most universities and colleges offer pre college work as a significant percent of graduating students do not qualify for college level courses, especially for community colleges. I know for fact there are students overseas doing pre college work they could do at the bermuda college for a much cheaper price.

I wonder how the students from Berkeley faired? Any update on this Bernews?

  4. All the best to these 10 in their future endeavors & may that at achieve their MBA in information technology, e-business or entrepreneurship so they can be on the same intellectual level as mark zuckerberg

  5. Patricia says:

    To Ruthless,

You are on the right track. the other students will probably not graduate and be qualified to enter into College level courses. Most if not all of them will have to do pre-college level English and Math before they even start College level courses. So what is CedarBridge and Berkely teaching these children. I know because my child had to do pre-college math when her grades were sufficent for CedarBridge and she was on the Honour Roll every year she was there – 80-89%. The College also noted that she would have to do pre-college level English class but I fought that as her CPT said she did good. One Counsellor at the College told me pre-college level, another said College level. so parents please please take note. Your child could be up the College taking classes they dont need to take. Anything to hold back our young people. Quite frankly I honestly believe its a money making scheme for the College!

    • Interesting says:

I do not believe it is a money making scheme for the College as they have accreditation standards they must adhere to. Placing into courses is not a simple process.

  6. Patricia says:

    To Ruthless,

*Sorry it should “other students will probably graduate and NOT be qualified”……

  7. Susan says says:

Congratulation to all students and teachers of CedarBridge. Continue to work hard and strive for excellence.

To Patricia and Ruthless..lets just congratulate these students and leave all the negative thoughts about Bermuda College for another day!!

    • Ruthless says:

I am sorry if you think we are being negative! I am very happy for these students! I was just wondering about the process! It seems that there is an obvious disconnect between the college and last year of Senior School that needs fixing! Not trying to be negative! My niece left BHS and went right into university and hasn’t had to do any pre college courses! Could it be that IB course that the Private Schools are doing is the answer?

      • Susan says says:

@Ruthless, Sorry to say you were negative but I know of many students who have completed high school at Cedearbridge and Berkerly and have gone onto university in the States and the UK, some returned because they could not handle the pressure did a year at Bermuda College then went back. Sometimes I think its down to the individual child.
