North Village Tag Day Raises $3,000 For Youth

January 14, 2014

North Village Community Club are thanking the public for supporting their youth tag day held this past Saturday [Jan 11] with all donations used to help fund the 2014 Youth Scotland Football Tour. The parents and children were overwhelmed by the generosity that was demonstrated by so many.

One story in particular was very touching said U10 parent Melanie Gardiner, “A homeless man who, as you can imagine, didn’t have much money at all, wanted to support our youth and donated all that he had into one of the tag buckets. This unselfish act truly touched me and had me in tears”.

The tag day raised $3,014 and will be split evenly between the children who participated in the fundraising event. Other fundraising events such as bake sales, movie days and potlucks are in full swing as the children aim to raise a total of $3,000 each to cover the cost of the tour.

North Village Fundraiser-001

Last year North Village signed a five-year deal with Glasgow Rangers Football Club. Rangers F.C. play in the Scottish Professional Football League. The alliance has already seen 15 youth players go to Scotland and be trained by Rangers coaches and that number is expected to almost double this summer.

The trip provides players with the opportunity to be trained by professional coaches, to compete against overseas teams and to be evaluated by professional scouts. Rangers will continue to play a key role in the technical direction of North Village by sharing methods and techniques with their coaches.

Rangers coaches will be visiting Bermuda this April to host a training camp which will be open to all boys and girls in Bermuda who are interested in being trained by professional football coaches. Coaches’ education sessions will also be offered.

Tag days are scrutinized by the Centre on Philanthropy and the Corporation of Hamilton. Not just anyone can pick up a bucket and ask for money.

As regards the homeless man, have you ever heard of “the widow’s mite”.
The homeless man, I am sure, had a feeling of worth.

Have you ever seen the State Farm commercial??? Well it goes this way. He even sounds hideous. Stay in the bush with your bush comments and spelling.
