UK Send Sympathies: Louise Jackson’s Death

January 3, 2014

Louise Jackson OBE - 2014On behalf of the Queen, the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood wrote to Governor George Fergusson to express sympathy over the passing of Louise Jackson.

Known in her later years for her contribution to politics, Mrs Jackson’s service to Bermuda extended back decades with her involvement in both education and the performing arts.

She passed away yesterday at 83 years old.

Just before her passing, Mrs Jackson was named to the Queen’s 2014 New Years Honours List, awarded an OBE for her public service and service to seniors.

The letter said, “It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, following a tragic accident, of Mrs. Louise Jackson, whose promotion to be an Officer of the Most Honourable Order of the British Empire was announced in The Queen’s New Year Honours.

“Mrs. Jackson’s work as a Member of the Parliament of Bermuda, and her service in connection with healthcare and provision for the elderly, has been valued by many; she will be greatly missed.

“May I, on behalf of Her Majesty, Sovereign of the Order of the British Empire, send sincere sympathy to Mrs. Jackson’s family and friends in their loss.”

Once again I comment on Bermuda’s loss but also the ill informed and stooped people that post dislikes here.
I need not wonder why they do.
Imagine if Bernews put up the ‘dislikes’ and they pen names.
No difference would be made because they hide.
    Sad.
    Shalom.

After reading the comments posted one should ask what does political nepotism have to do with the contents of the article? The article states that the Queen’s representative in London, the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood, expressed deep regret on her untimely death – nothing to do with her daughter in politics.

So the pseudonym decided to write about Mrs Jackson’s daughter in politics and those who registered their dislike, did so based upon that comment.

This is not the time nor story that a debate on nepotism should be raised, so I suspect that bloggers registered their dislike to either the change in subject matter from the article or their views disliking nepotism in public office.

But there is a vast problem with pseudonyms registering their (or single) dislike to every blogger’s comment on a story, irrespective of the subject-matter, it’s almost with child-like precision.

This appears to be a forum where “hooded bloggers” take on all forms of discussion, many times out of left field and sometimes in the extreme. But, if we can stay focused on the subject matter in this story it truly demonstrates reverence, compassion and kindness, a hallmark of Mrs Jackson’s character in life.

May she rest in peace. She did a great deal for Bermuda in culture and fought hard for seniors.
