The driver should go to prison for a good while.

Lock him up,Remove his Driving License for Life!

  5. It had to have been a very frightening thing to happen to this young lady but thankfully she is going to be o.k and the situation was not worse, hopefully the cab driver will be a good enough witness to make sure the maximum penalty is thrown at this guy.

  6. watchumacallit says:

Well if he is white he might get off due to “not being enough evidence” we all know how racist the bermuda court system is. I guarantee if he’s black. .. he going jail. Something bad always happens round d holidays. Hope the girl is alright though. I wanna know who it is u kno me.. pokey Bermudian

    • Lang says:

And i bet if hes green hes going back to space?

Odds are he is black, look at the demographics on this island.

    • BarrierReefs says:

Shame on you for bringing race into this. This poor young girl has gone through something tragic. Whether this man is purple, yellow or green is irrelevant. He should be prosecuted either way.

    • Symonds says:

Why does race always have to come into it. If he is black and gets off it won’t make a story, if he is white and gets off it will be major news. If he goes to jail like he should, white or black, it will be in the news.

    • ugh says:

Oh and here we go with the race card again… you lot really need to get a new argument. There really isn’t as much racism as everyone makes it seem.

    • Natalie says:

I believe most people in bermuda’s court system are black, how can they be racist?

  7. Rhonda Neil says:

very sad this lady was injured….wishing her a speedy recovery…

however Bermuda needs to decide what it’s laws are pertaining to pedestrian…… seems some people can to driven down whilst walking on the crossing, and the drivers found not guilty or not even taken to court…. others can jaywalk and get full sympathy of the public… I don’t know any of the parties here…but it appears to me that many things happened here to cause this tragedy….

I do not believe this young person should be thrown under the jail… but should receive just punishment for the wrongs that he committed…

    • Srsly? says:

You don’t think a drunk driver, who struck a pedestrian, and fled the scene deserves jail?

      You must be his relative.

      • Rhonda Neil says:

He deserves punishment for his actions, but the larger point is what lead to this tragedy by all participants, what are we as a jurisdiction doing to prevent this from ever happening,

        • Srsly? says:

It’s pretty simple: don’t drive when you drink.

Stop trying to muddy the waters.

        • Hudson says:

Rhonda, I have zero tolerance for drunk drivers, and even more intolerance for people unwilling to face the consequences of their actions. His decision to leave the scene alone should land him in a heap more trouble IMHO. He should receive the max sentence applicable by law for all counts.. DUI, GBH, Dangerous Driving, Leaving Scene etc… That will help to prevent people in the future. As a society, we have to stop this culture of “I’m cool as I only had a couple”, or “just one for the road”…

        • Anonymous says:

Rhonda. Are you retarded? An innocent female was hit by a drunk driver. You clearly didn’t read the article. He was in the wrong 100%. Take your insensitive comments elsewhere because you’re not the one bed ridden for weeks because of an idiot driver. Thanks.

          • Rhonda Neil says:

What part of the article says she was on the crosswalk, and 100% not culpable… I suppose I may be retarded… but at least i can read with understanding…and not with political or rose colored glasses….

            • sage says:

              You are ridiculous.

            • BarrierReefs says:

The pedestrian was not drunk and did nothing wrong. Your ability to try and put some degree of blame on the victim is truly saddening. This is about a drunk driver, not an innocent pedestrian.

  8. Robert Daniels says:

    Throw the book at him.

  9. Rhonda Neil says:

Do drunk walkers have a responsibility for their own safety… I almost hit a drunks walker that just ran across the street no warning or anything, right away I thought, could that one glass of wine at dinner put me over the legal limit… I did not know… my life was changed forever, now I can’t enjoy a glass of wine at dinner, because now not only am I responsible for my actions but also the actions of others…

because me being convicted may depend on who got hit…

    • Anonymous says:

I can tell you’re not very educated. The article said nothing about a drunk walker…perhaps you’re related to the man who hit her? Another woman defending the ignorance of a young male. The reason Bermuda is the way it is. I’m only 22 and I’m schooling you…grow up.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

You have no idea whether or not this lady was or wasn’t sober. But pedestrians have no responsibility to stay sober. Drivers do.

She was in the road apparently talking to a taxi driver. She didn’t suddenly lurch into the road. She wasn’t laying down in a darkened road (like some people in a recent case). It doesn’t sound like she did anything to cause the accident. The driver, on the other hand, hit her in his car and failed to stop after the accident.

You sound like you’re blaming the victim.

      • sage says:

Another pearl of wisdom from Sandy. Pedestrians have no responsibility to stay sober? Being drunk and incapable in public is an offense under the law in this country. This has nothing to do with this case as it was reported.

  10. ugh says:

Rhonda isn’t defending the driver, she is pointing out that PEDESTRIANS also have to assume some responsibility when crossing the street. She did not say that in this instance the lady may be drunk but offered an example of irresponsible pedestrians in the wrong.

Ok so let’s say the guy was drunk, does that somehow prevent the victim from looking both ways before crossing the street? Was she on a crosswalk? Did she wait for the light if she was? It’s dark at 2am…. how did she not see the lights from the oncoming car?? Even if she wasn’t in the wrong, being right does not keep you alive when it’s human vs automobile. Accept some responsibilty for your own personal safety.

  11. What? says:

No one said anything about the pedestrian being drunk? Stop bringing up scenarios. A DRUNK DRIVER HIT A FEMALE AND FLED THE SCENE!!!! How on EARTH! Can you flip that? STOP DRIVING DRUNK! If you don’t wanna be locked up.. DONT HIT AND RUN! I’m confused as to why you’re even picking at the situation it’s as simple as the title, it didn’t t even need an article. Just do everyone a favor ad remove yourself from the feed. You’re obviously bringing your own sentimental issues into this (as you clearly stated). This is a poor woman’s life that’s changed forever. And uh is clearly Rhonda no one else could possibly think like you

  12. Sandy Bottom says:

Kinda liike Makai did. Who knew he’s OBA?
