And when is ANY union in Bermuda going to elect a female leader?

Are there any plans to make room at the table for female leadership?

What is the gender makeup of your membership by individual and collective unions?

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Congratulations Jason Hayward. Its not an easy task going forward. I hope the Union will “STAND UP” for workers, and be more proactive in representing their needs. I talked to a few workers and they expressed a weakness of the BPSU is in their lack of ability to represent the workers. Another concern expressed was that wish there is some movement towards changing the General Secretary top post every 3 to 5 years, this would help to ensure fresh approach of the Union as well. Good luck, wishing you all the best.

@Valirie it would be great to see more female leaders in Unions and politics, but females need to step forward as well. Often many do not put themselves forward for such positions in Bermuda.

Doesn’t he work for the government? I’m assuming he will resign if this is true. And most importantly act impartially. So far he has not impressed me that he can. Time to move my dues to a charity.

  3. Patricia says:

So true SMH. Can he act impartially? Geesh. Things only get worse before they get better. Membership have to endure him for the next few years unless of course the membership gets together to vote him out.

  4. RawOnion says:

I guess the BPSU knows what it is doing. In my opinion, Mr. Hayward is not a good choice, there has to be someone with a better work ethic. He may be a cool guy but still leaves much to be desired to be at the helm of a union.

  5. Take it Easy! says:

If u ask me Mr. Grant was a great leader and was the ONLY union boss that saw the reality that bermudians were facing! While the BIU and its members keep marching and slapping the private sector in its face! Maybe thats why Mr. Grant lost his leadership because he spoke up? Anyways Mr. Grant good luck in your future and maybe u can help Chris wake up to reality!

You have got to be kidding me???? Mr Grant actually was the voice of reason!!!! This is a serious step backwards for all of us!! Just another sad day in Bermuda, to all those that voted for this guy, I can only say you deserve everything coming to you!!!!

Just look who is in the picture to the left, that should tell everyone how serious this is!!!

  8. Karla says:

Stop judging people and wait to see what he brings to the table. No matter who they put there someone is going to have a problem. We all have choices in life so either put up and get involved in OUR problems or shut up. What do you do to help and bring about change for the betterment of the Country? Ask yourself that question.

    • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

      Very well put Karla…

I’m beginning to think that Bermudians see tearing each other down as blood sport. The level of negativity posted about anyone who steps up the plate to make a contribution in Bermuda is a recipe for a put down by either political side, irrespective of skin colour and 99% attributed to – bloggers anonymous.

What you do not realise is, the only individuals who are being defeated are Bermudians; the expats must be silently smiling.

At the risk of being constantly repetitive, post with some ‘emotional intelligence’. In other words, discard your personal feelings and start to post in an objective vein. And, if you do not know what the subject is, then reframe from posting an off-the-wall comment on the national debt and current state of affairs in the Civil Service.

For many this is an opportunity to learn more, exchange ideas and keep a flow of information that is transparent and objective. To a few, unfortunately, the negative interaction (postings) is their fuel.

Incidentally, what is wrong with having a female at the helm of a union in Bermuda? With all other negatives, Bermuda also suffers a severe GENDER BIAS, led by predominately Black males who view union leadership with the same regard as the exclusivity of a Tucker’s Town membership club.

      • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Thanks Valirie Marcia Akinstall I agree with you saying that “beginning to think that Bermudians see tearing each other down as blood sport. • Kangoocar says:

Very interesting your view points betty???? You seem to spend all day and everyday tearing down the OBA for stepping up to the plate to clear up the fiscal mess your plp left us all in!!! Can you please explain YOUR. Actions?????

          • Speak Truth says:

I think you and Mike Hinds need to take a good hard look at the “man in the mirror ” and there you will see the real individuals whom are decisive. Both of you spend time attacking Bettty just because her political ideology and views differ from you. While Bettty does not post as often as the two of you, Ithink you both need to do some serious reflecting while looking at the man in the mirror.

        • Mike Hind says:

Says the biggest perpetrator of “Bloggers anonymous” tearing people down…

          You’re a joke.

          • Karla says:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because one may not agree does not mean attack the individual. Many talk about the politicians fighting but how many of you all realize that you are doing the same thing when blogging. Whose side are you really on….fixing the issues or not?

      • JUNK YARD DOG says:

Hey Val ! is it cols over there in Blighty ?

        Welcome to the real world.

There are only two things left either you laugh or cry.

        We are only joking.
