Photos & Videos: People’s Campaign March

July 25, 2014

[Updated] The People’s Campaign and Bermuda Trade Union Congress marched today [July 25] to the Cabinet Office to “let their voices be heard” on the PRC Bermuda status matter.

Earlier this week, Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy said that the Ministry is withdrawing the appeal in the PRC status matter and “the avenue to Bermuda status for certain PRC holders that was created by the previous government in 2001 will stand.”

The Minister said that immigration records indicate that 1,455 PRCs are potentially eligible for status, and while they not know exactly how many children of these PRC holders are eligible for status, they “believe the number is minimal – possibly a few hundred.”

In a joint statement, the BTUC and People’s Campaign said: “Let us begin by removing all of the erroneous and distracting charges coming from some quarters regarding xenophobia. It is our position that PRC holders who have and continue to contribute to Bermuda should be provided with a fair and reasonable opportunity to pursue status if they so desire.

“The fear and scaremongering of some people who have attempted to generate hysteria around PRC holders stealing jobs and opportunities from Bermudians we likewise reject in the strongest terms.”

he statement added, “The honorable thing to do, instead of engaging in the politics of avoidance, or the politics of blame, the PLP did it so why should we change it, would have been to close the “loophole” legislatively, and then engage in a more reasoned and well thought out policy that would provide PRC holders who seek status with a path and an opportunity to attain it.”

500 of the same old people.

      Moving along…..

    • Kunta says:

Ok, so there has been no critics on de spelling so I guess that area has improved, and being its de 500 same people then its consistent, and de White Mental Illness thing I think she’s about 60 years late when they were going around causing havoc on Black people, but now they’re more CIVIL they do their damage more subliminal.

      • jt says:

Move past the grassy knoll Kunta.

        the not de

        Woof.

  2. redbeard says:

let their voices be heard. yes we heard their voice “WHITE MENTAL ILLNESS IS KILLING AFRICAN BERMUDIANS” thank you Rev Tweed. now we know what your march was about. She carried that sign to your meeting at the park and all the way to Cabinet and not one of you told her to take it down. We have all seen what you are all about now.

    • shaka zulu says:

Good to see the PLP / BIU members are out marching, but where was the marches 14 years ago??As for the lady holding the sign “White mental illness is killing African Bermudians” what a load of s–t!!easy to blame another race always for your problems that arise within your race, blacks shooting blacks etc..as for Mr Tweed, if he is against the prc and status policey where was he when the PLP, brought it out when they was in power but never followed through with making the decision back than??If he is Bermudian ,while working in America did he think of how many American born preachers that should have had the job instead of him??and if he has duel citizenship , than perhaps he should give one up??

    • sandgrownan says:

Wow..what a disgusting individual. Where’s Lynn Winfield when you need here?

      • Creamy says:

CURB wouldn’t lift a finger to do anything about a sign like that, for completely obvious reasons. They don’t give a rat’s ass about inciting hatred towards white people.

    • Ringmaster says:

This sign is a perfect example of the need for the Human Rights Commission, let alone the police, to get involved. The organizers should be ashamed they let this be a part of their demonstration. The fact they did speaks volumes.

      • Ringmaster says:

With the announcement today from the People’s Campaign that they effectively condemn the sign, I am more than pleased to retract my comment above about them allowing this to have been a part of the demonstration. It is regrettable that one person can become the center of comment and attention based on a personal grievance that is unrelated to the purpose of the march.

    • Junior says:

Spot on. Racist agenda, who wants part of that? Marc? Tweed? Furball?

    • BlueFamiliar says:

I asked someone who supported the march, someone I’ve long considered a friend, about that sign and was told that the woman was ‘entitled to her opinion’.

That made me sadder than anything.

I can handle a difference of opinions and politics, but supporting blatant racism is unacceptable to me.

My friend is not the person I once thought and now I find myself wondering about others I’ve considered friends. I know that’s wrong, but…

      • nuffin but the truth says:

        she’s a racist!

        • Ian says:

          yawn…

          • Sandgrownan says:

If you think he sign is ok, that says more about you than you could possibly imagine.

            • LOL (Original TM*) says:

No we all ready new it about him, he just did not know it about himself.

              LOL

        • Kunta says:

Just a little educational information, because of Historical events Black People cant be racist, white people already fulfilled that position for life, but Black People can be prejudice.
Look up “Scientific Racism” you may not like what you read !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • aceboy says:

From a dictionary/thesaurus standpoint you are correct. From a moral perspective you are totally wrong.

Prejudice is not “racism-lite”. It is not just understandable anger. It is hatred. And, it is just as illegal as racism when demonstrated in this manner.

            • Hmmm says:

No from a dictionary definition she is a racist I google searched and her actions fit.

          • Sandgrownan says:

Ha! Now that’s the funniest thing I’ve read all day!

            • Kunta says:

Well when your intellectually inclined enough to know the true definitions of RACIST and PREJUDICE then we can have an intelligent dialog in the mean time um gonna communicate with my dog, it’s less stressful.
              LMFAO

          • Disgust says:

@Kunta, call it what you want. If it makes you more comfortable to worry about titles and makes you less embarrassed to be associated with people like this, then so be it.

If you don’t want to call it Racism, then tell us what would you call it? Whatever title you give her – this is a HATE BASED MESSAGE.

As someone of mixed race that has experienced love from all angles, I am embarrassed to see narrow minded people walking amongst people who label themselves leaders of this country. Her message was troubling to most- but she is one person with obvious issues. However, more troubling to me was that the same BIU members that pushed to have a woman fired because she called marchers lazy on her day off, looked the other way and were okay with HER message.

Marchers, you can’t pretend you didn’t see her sign -she walked the entire route and was in the park as well.

Where was CURB? Why didn’t they step in? I can assure you they were there! There were PLP ELECTED members at this march as well. Mr. Bean , as a wannabe leader, why did you not make a stand against her message!

DO NOT expect me and my family (on both sides) to support this group, this March, the PLP, the BIU and sadly now NOT even CURB ever again!

            • long bay trading co. says:

VERY well said. Amen and Righ On to Disgust.
Yet again, another very sad day for Bermuda.

            • Kunta says:

Like I said she ‘s about 60 years late, but her statement is correct as symptoms of mental illness are emotional distress and abnormal behavior and Black People have experienced that type of behavior from white people for Centuries, but like I SIAD for the LAST time, she’s about 60 late because since then white people have been acting MORE CIVIL so now we’re just seeing the remnants of the Historical Embarrassment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Hmmm says:

You are a racist Kunta. That’s why you dismiss the equality of actions. Look in that mirror at a racist excusing individualistic justification of hate. Wake up already.

          • Build a Better Bermuda says:

With that mentality, this is why racism is still alive and well in Bermuda. racism is an individual’s/group’s attitude/mentality/prejudice about another race, it is not race specific. Those that think or try to promote it as such, are simply trying to justify their own prejudice. Racism lives in no specific skin colour, it lives in any heart that carries hatred and prejudice.

          • Derek A. G. Jones says:

Personally I don’t have any time for racism, bigotry or prejudice. They are all equally as bad.

Holding up a sign that is so flagrant and vile as to potentially incite someone to react is ten times worse than the woman who was fired for yelling at the union members to get back to work. It is irresponsible of the march organizers to allow such inappropriate, and factually wrong, signs to be displayed.

Do we really want our kids seeing and reading such unfounded vitriol?

            • Kunta says:

Our children are seeing and reading worse stuff, this is part of their History they need to know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Really? says:

            Racism is racism.

It has no place in a modern society and making excuses for someone who is acting in an ignorant fashion is sad

            Sad Kunta

    • Cleancut says:

What if that sign was written by a white woman “black mental illness” do you think she would have gotten out of that park alive?

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Nope, at the very least she would be called part of a lynch mob.

      • Rockfish#1 and 2 says:

You did say “if” right. How about dealing with the here and now!

      • Karma says:

        No…oh HELL, no!

      • Next says:

It’s truly sad to see all these comments. I’m very offended by that “racist” sign and not actual racism. Poor white people, they are always harassed, racially profiled, unfairly imprisoned, etc. It’s so tragic. Who would have thought that in 2014 white people would be the ones yelling about racism…stemming from a protesters sign. Surely a worthy cause to rally around. You guys are right up there with the Martin Luther Kings and Rosa Parks for your people. Well done.

        • Sandgrownan says:

Ha! Now that’s the funniest thing I’ve read all day!

          • Next says:

Oh look it’s the #1 complainer on Bernews responding. How typical. That’s interesting because the funniest thing I’ve read all day is white people complaining about being victims of racism…stemming from a protesters sign. Do you realize how absurd and insulting that is? Do tell me how you as a white woman in this world have been so unfairly treated and oppressed. This should be good.

            • Build a Better Bermuda says:

This isn’t about the past, if we want our children to live in a future where racism is a thing of the past, it’s ignorance has to be called out where ever it is seen. You cannot rid racism from one direction, by applying it in the other, that is just perpetuating it.

              • Next says:

Racism will NEVER be a thing of the past. The sooner you realize that the better off you’ll be.

            • Creamy says:

When a mob is talking about taking away your legal and constitutional rights at the stroke of a pen it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white. The fact remains the sign was racist. It works both ways. If a similar sign had been used in an anti-black way there wouldn’t be any defense to it either. Yet here you all are, defending blatant racism and hate speech.

              • Next says:

A MOB? Seriously? No it wasn’t. Racism (by whites) is a mental illness. That’s just a fact. You all like to Columbus everything. You think you have rights to everything and anyone who calls you out on it is labelled a racist. Look at your history as a people and then try again. A sign is not oppressing you in any way.

            • Derek A. G. Jones says:

@ Next, you fail to understand that by carrying that sign she actually sets her people back. It’s 2014 and people want to treat each other as equals. It makes it harder to do when people act in such a manner. People will pay her no mind and consider her a bitter hateful person who doesn’t have a clue about reality. And anyone who condones her will be considered in the same manner. There’s a thousand ways to get a point across without resorting to racially divisive measures. MLK and Miss Parks understood how important that was.

              • Be Fair says:

Derek A .G. Jones , I totally agree with you on this one. This lady has done more damage to her cause than she can possibly imagine, we have alot to thank her for as it has shown the true agenda of this march ,a march that the majority oppose !

              • Next says:

No she does not. That sign was representation of her and her thoughts alone. The fact that you think that represents black people or “her people” says more about you than her. Who is the real racist here? Do you have a mental illness? Are you racist? No then the sign doesn’t apply to you. Why go about a thousand different ways instead of just cutting to the chase? Are you another person who foolishly believes racism no longer exists and that we shall never discuss it? Don’t compare this to what MLK and Rosa Parks did. It’s offensive and ignorant. You aren’t oppressed, you aren’t denied the right to vote, you aren’t made to sit at the back of a bus and the list goes on and on.

                • Build a Better Bermuda says:

It represents anybody at that march who did not ask her to take it down.

                  • Next says:

No it does not and easier said than done. Would you have told her to take it down? Doubt it and she has the right to express her opinion. It’s not against the law.

            • Sandgrownan says:

But at least we know now. This has nothing to do with PRC’s and status, nor anything to do with the “Tuckers Town Land Grab”….this is all about a failed political party latching on to the only thing they have..race based politics. The only thing they know that they can use to get an emotional response.

If you think this has anything to do with pent up frustration at the process, or any deep seated result of the institutional racism of the past, then you are as stupid as the idiot holding that sign.

              • Next says:

I’m waiting on you to tell me how you were racially oppressed in this world as a white woman. I’d love to hear your struggle. There were racist laws and segregation in Bermuda right up until the 1960s. Many people are old enough to remember that struggle. How do you know what this is truly about? Why are you dismissing that but so quick to rally around PRC’s? Again, who is the real racist here?

                • let-go-of-the-hatred says:

Wow. I grew up in Canada. A place where everyone grew up in a cultural & racial melting pot. A place where everyone had friends/co-workers of all types of backgrounds. A place where immigrants could come to start a better life (for WHATEVER reason) & be welcomed, not hated and judged.

Visiting my fiance in Bermuda & seeing all of this divide is beyond disgusting and embarrassing in this day and age. I’m flabbergasted at the comments here and all over social media. The only place I’ve ever visited where I’ve seen racism & very blatant skewed views alive and well.

So, if you’re a black person & had experienced racism and oppression in the past, that gives you the right to hate everyone else in the world. And of course “us white people”. Now that’s surely a very cynical, misguided statement. That’s like saying that half of my family background is German so I must be a Nazi sympathizer. Come on. Get your head out of your a**.

I joined the African awareness club in school to learn about Black history, of my own general genuine interest. Oppression of black people, or ANY MINORITY is abhorrent and disgusting. But does that give people like you and the lady holding the sign the right to hate Caucasians or PRC holders?

I’m fairly certain that everyone in the world except for First Nations peoples are immigrants. Our families all came from somewhere to somewhere else. It’s a pretty simple concept. People of many nationalities have done crappy things to others for the duration of history, but propagating hatred and further division between races and economic classes does nothing but keep everyone stuck in limbo in a rut.

Anybody, WHATEVER their race is deserves the right of respect and a decent life. People who have come to this island & worked hard, been crime-free, started families, contributed to the economy for many years are equally as Bermudian as you and your ancestors. They’re your co-workers, your neighbours, your friends. Why should they be treated differently because of crummy things that have happened in the past, that makes it okay to be biased??

It’s horrible that racism & segregation existed in Bermuda until relatively recently. People that are clinging to resentment and hate from the past are never going to be able to move forward into the future.

Shifting the blame with passive aggressive comments to hide your very blatant racism is never going to help change viewpoints and stop this division, you’re only helping it grow and fester.

      • Animal Lover says:

You are right, she would probably be in jail right now.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

For so long the PLP/BIU have accused the UBP and now the OBA of bring racism to the hall of government, but today the PC/PLP/BIU lead a march with racist signs and intolerant slogans telling PRC’s to ‘Go Home’ to the very center of our government, and did so proudly, even thinking that they have the moral right to issue the peoples government an ultimatum to do as they demand. So much for the a march for tolerance and justice, Mr. Bean, Rev Tweed, Mr. Furbert, congratulations, you now promote that which you say you fight.

    • Frank Sense says:

What is worrying is that there were several signs with different messages set out in exactly the same style as this one.
This means that there was a group making and carrying these signs,
Was this group a part of the People’s Campaign or some splinter group?
The Campaign must investigate and report back to the people clarifying their position.

    • The Sign Lady - Peggy Burns says:

      Attention redbeard:
I am going to speak once and then I will say no more.
To put to death both of your lies: No, I did not carry that sign all the way to the Cabinet grounds. YES, MORE THAN ONE of them told me to take it down, and I did. The other side of the sign read: “The OBA Must Go! You are accursed!” How’s that?
The new labels for ‘racism’–“Mental Illness”, “Mental Disorder”, “Insanity” (MIMDI). Language, like the media, has great power and influence over the way people think and behave. We need to stop referring to this irrational hatred and hurtful treatment of black people as “racism” and start calling it what it really is–mental illness or mental disorder or insanity. If we change the language used when referring to and identifying with this (MIMDI), perhaps white people might pause and re-assess this largely unfounded disdain of black people–centuries old, unbroken, stinking to high heaven and hell and everywhere in between attitudes and deeds. Truth be told, black people have not been completely unaffected by this (MIMDI), and tragically black children are born and raised in this hostile, insane asylum (environment). Our hyphens (representing our life span) between the cradle and the grave are tainted by (MIMDI). In essence, it robs and deprives us of the true joy of what it means to really live, to drink from the fountain and partake of the substance of the tree of life unencumbered–to breathe and move and have our original and natural being. Instead blacks are bullied by whites from the time we enter this world up to the date of our departure. As we tread upon the earth’s back throughout the duration of our lives we pay a very high price (sometimes with loss of life) to the great gain of this world’s rapacious, controlling, hurtful and selfish minority. The painful reality is, we who dwell in Bermuda (a place which we like to label as ‘paradise’–and it honest to mother/father of the universe isn’t) cannot escape the (MIMDI) that is embedded into its DNA–and it honest to mother/father of the universe is, unless an antidote is applied to goes to the root of the problem–calling a spade a spade. So, commit to trying it and see what happens. Henceforth, whenever we (black or white) discuss or comment about ‘racism’ in Bermuda, let’s call it what it is–in our minds, with our tongues and in the media–(MIMDI).
In the words of Alice Childress: “I believe racism has killed more people than speed, heroin and cancer, and will continue to kill until it is no more.”
History never sleeps! In the words of one of Bermuda’s own:
“History has caused the division that islanders still live with today, politically, economically and socially. We have pain and we will express that pain. It’s not your call to tell me to remove the boot from around my neck, you can’t put me in pain and then design my release.” Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP–PLP, Government Minister of Tourism & Transport–July 1, 2005.
I hope that you can now SEE (overstand) just how powerful and deadly the communicable (MIMDI) truly is to its prey.

      • White (therefore mentally ill) says:

Oh my. Where to start? Oh yes, the Human Rights Complaints section!

        http://www.gov.bm/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_13765_495_1978_43/http%3B/ptpublisher.gov.bm%3B7087/publishedcontent/publish/ministry_of_community_affairs_and_sport/new_hrc/information_pamphlets/a_guide_to_making_a_complaint_0.pdf

I urge anybody with a White Mental Illness to fill out this form.

Now, Ms. Sign Holder. You come across as nothing but an embarrassment to “your” country (its mine too btw) and “your” cause. Whoever told “you” that writing such hate-filled vitrole on a sign and holding it up in front of CHILDREN (most of whom have NO issus with race, having grown up alongside various colours and nationalities on “OUR” beautiful island) was acting equally as stupid as you. Keep dragging “your” race, and “your” countrys divide, backwards into the past. You wont live forever, but some of these children will be here for another 60 years, and you have helped them form a pointless and backward ideaology which may be perpetuated long after you are gone. Great work for the cause.

So thanks, from the children of “your” island, from us White (Mentally Ill) Bermudians (YES- we are a people too you know, one who doesnt infer that YOU are ill) who know no racism because “we” work alongside “you”, “we” procreate with “you”, “we” love “you” and “we” are friends with “you”. Oh no, wait, in another media “you” said “you” dont want white frineds. Guess I’ll take my Mentall Ill self elsewhere. LOL

PS- your sign has gone viral, prompting a lot of anti-Bermuda opinions, but I guess thats what you want, then no more white mentally ill tourists will try to visit “your” island and perhaps inject “your” economy with their cash, therefore giving “your” children and grandchildren a chance to earn a good living and live a great life.

Please do the right thing and apologise. Not for your opinions, you are entitled to them, but for the ugliness and hatred you showed in your sign. Perhaps enough complaints to the HRC will force you to do this anyway.

Please also link “us” to this theory of MIMDI, because a thorough google search has not lead to any factual evidence that this bizzare idea is a remotely real one.

Thanks and have a great day, fellow Human Being, for we are all fellow Human Beings, and if i believed in a god of any description I doubt it would condone this kind of treatment of others. Maybe “your” god does. I hope for your sake this is true.

Sincerely, your White Mentally Ill friend, colleague, customer, in-law and neighbour.

  3. rickbda says:

I wonder if the Rev Tweed would tell PRC holders AND STATUS Bermudians that attend his church that there OFFERING on Sunday’s will not be accepted any longer LOL!!!!

  4. Local Yokle says:

Is Rev. Tweed Bermudian? He sounds very American…. Oh I love the “white mental illness…” Sign..

    • Wazzzzz Up says:

He has probably spend less of his life in Bermuda than most PRC holders. His story sounds familiar. Dr. B the sequel!

      • Junior says:

He has, born in UK, brought up there and in US, dad was Bermudian, only moved back in 2013.

Sorry, why on earth are we giving him any time?

        • Kunta says:

He could be from Timbuktu, as long as he’s fighting for equal rights and justice for de oppressed, just like Dr. E .F. Gordon, he was from Trinidad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Anbu says:

Kunta. Now pay attention. U are NOT oppressed. So stop it bie

          • Sandgrownan says:

Who is oppressed and who is being denied equal rights?

At the end of the day, he’s just another reactionary politician, wrapped in the politics of the 1960′s and who is only given leave to spout divisive rhetoric because he has Rev in front of his name.

He’s a guest worker. He should behave himself and make sure he doesn’t offend anyone.
That’s what you people always say isn’t it?

          • Build a Better Bermuda says:

That the crux of it right now though, he is trying to delay/prevent people from getting equal rights.

          • Hmmm says:

What equal rights is he fighting for?

        • Creamy says:

He issued threats. We should deport him.

    • Navin Johnson says:

I believe he arrived in Bermuda in August of 2013 after spending most of his life in England and the US….his Father lived in Bermuda until about 50 years ago. Perhaps he was recruited by the PLP…what is he being paid? is he Bermudian? is he taking a job from a Bermudian?

  5. GIVE ME A BREAK says:

ok…. darn – it is so well written!!!

So refreshing to see that Bermudians take being Bermudian serious .

    • jt says:

I agree…take those 57% for example. Very refreshing.

      • Kunta says:

Hey Dreamer that 57% was only 200 people out of 60,000, go figure.

          http://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm

        • jt says:

Over 400…and that’s how polls are conducted and what margins of error are about.
Still…if we use your logic this march showed less than 1% dissent and last week’s about 2-3% depending on the attendance figures you believe.

  7. Come On Man says:

We need to start the revelotion. PLP and the OBA are using their supporters as ponds in the game of politricks. Both parties are using the people to get at each other while the country is held in limbo. Sick and tired of being sick and tired.

  8. Come On Man says:

We don’t need either party. Kick them both out, they don’t care about the people. The PLP had 14+ years and the UBP/OBA had over a year and their imploading already. SMDH!

    • bermy says:

Couldn’t agree more. There are good sane people on both sides and feel it would be in the islands best interests to start having some talks and form a new government from both sides. This island has to go forward, what is currently starting to happen could well be our crucifixion and it is sad and scary to watch it happen. As for that sign, I wonder what Zane’s thoughts are on that one?

      • Rockfish#1 and 2 says:

What are Zane’s thoughts on the PRC issue? He must be conflicted.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

And what would you suggest? How about going back to the 60s & before. That was before my time but back then the politicians were all independents. They all had to work together to make Government work.

They were not perfect but things were better then than now. Bermuda ran on balanced budgets. $2B worth of debt & $200,000.00 per day to service that debt could not even be imagined.

I’d love to go back to independents. Some sort of proportional vote system.

    • Kunta says:

@Come On Man I think U.B.P were in power more than a year.

  9. Guess What says:

guess what ??? Everyone in the photos is a retired Bermudian with nothing else to do !!!! Its like a massive tea party without the tea !! Bermuda is the only place in the world that aint past this nonsense !!! we are digging our own grave with shovels full of hatred and stupidity ! i am sick to my stomach watching the total nonsense that happens every day ! Nobody is happy, nobody cares and racial tension is at an all time high !!! so sick of it !!!!! I would wish for PRC Status anywhere right now…………Bermuda and Bermudians should be ashamed of ourselves !!!!! Guess what colour i am ???????? You may be wrong !!!

  10. Double Standards says:

“White mental illness is killing African Bermudians”

For real? Not one of the 499 other people had the moral ethical gumption to tell their fellow marcher that her sign was inappropriate at best.

    Nasty stuff indeed.

    • Kunta says:

A correction it should have read “Killed” because in the past its was physical now they’ve become civil it’s Social and Economic.

      • Derek A. G. Jones says:

In that case if you want to get technical the sign should be corrected to ‘African Bermudians are killing African Bermudians’. That my friend is where the biggest problem lies in Bermuda. We need to find sustainable careers and opportunities that allow our young men and women to participate in building a better society for all, not tearing each other down due a lack of self-respect and self-worth.

  11. Take it Easy! says:

That woman needs to go court

    • Disgust says:

Bernews readers , who is this woman and where does she work. I for one do not wish to support a company that supports and employs people with her mindset.

If the BIU pushed to have the woman that worked at the Chamber fired, surely the BIU, PLP, CURB will ask the same of this woman! If they don’t the public should.

Who is she, what business does she own, or where is she employed?

  12. Dylan says:

What a Sad day in Bermuda
Racism really has hit an all time low ,
Thanks for clearing up the issue and also thanks for showing who really thinks that way and supports it

    • Kunta says:

Ya like de racist woman that was drunk up on de porch that day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      LMFAO

      • jt says:

        the not de

      • Anbu says:

And what happened to her u friggin moron. She lost her job and had to apologize. How many bets this woman does not receive the same consequences. Wonder why?

        • go figure says:

Ahhh maybe because she doesn’t hold the position in the Chamber of Commerce??

          • Creamy says:

So the only people that mustn’t offend other races are employees of the Chamber of Commerce? Got it.

            • Kunta says:

No Dreamer those with greater Responsibility have greater Accountability and should know better.

              • Hmmm says:

So she doesn’t know better is your argument for that signs accepibility, so therefore you ADMIT it is wrong.

                Name and shame her please.

      • James Herald says:

So Kunta you call the white woman on the porch racist for yelling ‘get back to work’ yet the black woman with a sign about ‘white mental illness” is not because blacks can’t be racist?

You are very sad and pathetic.

        • Kunta says:

Well because of Historical events the perception was subliminal in its action, just like if a German person would’ve shouted at Jewish Protestors.

      • Next says:

They all made excuses for her though and claimed it wasn’t racist. This is the white mental illness they speak of. Always playing the victim but their history says otherwise.

        • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Interesting thing history may you should learn yours before the transatlantic slavery days.

          LOL

          • Kunta says:

Before de transatlantic slavery days, you mean when Africa had thriving Kingdoms and Europe was coming out of de dark ages.

          • Next says:

Maybe you should learn how to type before spewing off your lips. Which history? The fact that Africa was thriving and educating troglodytes or the historical revisionism by Caucasians? I’m not here for that historical distortion and transfer of guilt to make light of historical crimes perpetuated by Caucasians. I find it amusing you say “before the transatlantic slavery days” as if that was something so insignificant in history. Yes, let’s just gloss over that tiny stain on the part of whites. As colossal as that was it’s still only minor in the history and continued barbaric acts…

      • Be Fair says:

Correct me if Im wrong but I think all Mrs Mcphee shouted was “Get back to work” at the BIU marchers. Im not sure where the racist wording was in that however she paid a heavy price from people that perceived it that way . This lady at the march however had a VERY blatant racist message !!

      • eegrance says:

whats racist about calling people lazy? or telling them to get back to work? she shouldnt have yelled and all that, but please explain how it’s racist

        • Edmund Wells says:

Do you mean how is it racist like, “Get off your lazy rump”?

The picture becomes clearer with each comment.

          EW

        • Next says:

Because it’s something whites like to say to black people…that they are “lazy” and don’t like to work. You ever seen that yelled at white people? No.

  13. Raymond Ray says:

If there be a “tomorrow” the sun shall rise from the East and go down in the West. and that’s a fact. This matter was carried to the Cabinet Office and presented to the Govt. Party, the One Bermuda Alliance, and the Govt. / Premier Michael Dunkley stated they will review the, “letter” but the decision has been made prior to the marchers coming with P.L.P. flags ranting a raving about what is right and what is wrong…The P.L.P. and the Unions are (what I would say), “the pot calling the kettle black”. Just consider this; they’d over a decade to correct any wrong in the Law that’s pertaining to P.R.Cs Now get over it u’lot and get on with helping us get Bermuda “back up on an even keel”…

    • Kunta says:

Get on with helping Bermuda back up on an even keel ?
How can we do that and O.B.A/ubp is turning this ride into a sub-marine with all their SHENANIGANS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      LMFAO

  14. Heads up says:

That ***** is a RACIST! Absolutely discusting… Can’t believe the PLP and that redic reverand let her carry that sign. I am crying for the future of Bermuda right now. The people that need to go are people like that women and people who think that sh*t is ok.

    • Ian says:

“Let her”??? Its called freedom of expression… Go back to communist China!

      • aceboy says:

There are laws against that sort of expression. Only for when it suits you though, right?

      • Creamy says:

Yes, freedom of expression. Currently being used to incite racial hatred and violence.

      • James Herald says:

Ian: Freedom of expression come with responsibility. That was an offensive sign and there’s absolutely no way you can justify it. She owes the entire country an apology.

One more thing Ian: If the sign had talked about ‘black mental illness’ you’d be all over it.

Shame you are so ignorant – as is that woman. I hope someone names and shames her.

        • Ian says:

So do you think your fellow OBA-blogger Raymond Ray should apologize to the island for explicitly arguing his position that the removal of many black families in Tuckers Town was ultimately justified because the “white man showed up on these shores first…”???

          • Hmmm says:

That is wrong from your interpretation, but please can you provide the exact quote and link.

The word in quotations you have above is a true fact, but without the rest of the post we are just reading your interpretation.

Meanwhile, do you agree or disagree that the sign being discussed is right or wrong?

          • Raymond Ray says:

It’s me Ian…You know what I was insinuating. You “dear boy / girl” have got a serious chip upon your shoulders :-( Sad yes…but true!
It’s you and a few others that I’ll rather not name at this time that need to join a “support group” for you all seem to suffer with mental problems! Oh, and by the way, don’t you nor anyone else wait for an apology from me. I mean what I write / say until I’m proven incorrect.

    • Fix it Jesus says:

As racist as we feel the sign is, I am more offended by actual racism.

When we are more offended and driven to the edge by curse words, people’s views different from ours or people’s remarks then of things like racism there is a major problem.

    • Kunta says:

It’s an accurate statement in de wrong era.

  15. rickbda says:

It looks to me that the PLP (POOR LOOSER PARTY) and the Peoples Campaign are about to double bank the OBA. PLP on the right and peoples Campaign on the left the fight is now on two fronts the big squeeze.it looks to me that they are about to join up. OBA stand your ground and show good leadership and make sure you cross your T’S AND DOT yours I’S. and where is the GREEN Bean or is brother Furbert filling in for him cant wait to see what he has to say. The PLP are starting to look desperate.

  16. Bermudian says:

Wow! Wow! The lady and man holding those racial, hatred signs should lose their jobs. And I don’t want to hear that ‘it’s her opinion’ cause it was Joanne MacPhee’s opinion to say what she felt not too long ago about the PLP/BIU protesting. And she wasn’t displaying hatred, racial comments, but she lost her job.

  17. SR - Citizen says:

    …Hold on, so;

    http://bernews.com/2014/07/plp-condemn-racist-attacks-on-bermudians/

    • The Progressive Labour Party “condemns the vicious, degrading and often racist attacks on Bermudians across various media outlets,”

    and

    http://bernews.com/2014/07/marc-bean-stand-up-to-protect-democracy/

“No matter our differences in political belief, race, faith, or the walks of life we may come from, we must come together and stand up to protect democracy in our island home of Bermuda”

    and also

    http://bernews.com/2014/07/march-called-for-tomorrow-over-prc-matter/

“…We encourage Bermudians to exercise all peaceful and democratic methods to ensure your voice and will is recognized by Minister Fahy and the OBA”.

Yet, it appears we support, and tolerate – en massé, the mentality of men and women, who wholeheartedly use divisive racism to make a statement. In particular, I draw attention to the image of the woman holding a sign stating “White Mental Illness is Killing African Bermudians” as reference.

We all understand racism still exists to this day. But, (and especially) for a country with a community as tightly-knit as ours, and as racially / socially diverse, where do we draw the line and stop using such inflammatory ignorance that only furthers to divide our people?

Come on now, it’s 2014. We are an established and recognized country. We are continuously rekindling fires from our past that should long be put out. Regardless of PLP’s ’14 years’, UBP’s ’30 years’ or OBA’s ’1 year and some’, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation and social standing – I beg anyone in Bermuda, who has a home in Bermuda, who has family or friends in Bermuda – Please, for the love of our country, calm down and work with each other. We willfully embarrass ourselves with this behavior, which stunts our growth as a nation.

  18. Bermudian says:

What is African Bermudian? Is she trying to say that all black Bermudians are from Africa? Was it not the PLP/BIU supporters who are 99% black who marched today against giving rights to foreigners? Didn’t one guy hold a sign that read ‘go home’? Well my dears if that’s the case, please be my guest and go home. This beautiful island does not need your hatred poison destroying my home.

    • Be Fair says:

Reverend Tweed ,I trust by your title you are a man of God . How on earth could you allow someone to march with a placard insinuating that all the white race have a mental illness? Where are your Christian values on this one i.e “Loving your neighbour” Hypocrisy at its best, Shame on you Reverend !

      • Kunta says:

The sign does not say ALL, it specifies a symptom and what does loving your neighbor have to do with someone who feels that they are speaking what they feel.
Even Jesus called the scribes and Pharisees VIPERS Matt.3:7, and accused them of being Children of the Devil John 8:44.
What’s funny is SOME people quote biblical scriptures to suit their cause, Black People are your neighbors in Bermuda do you LOVE them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Be Fair says:

Quoting from the bible Kunta ..just as you have to promote your cause !

    • Kunta says:

@ Bermudian, all Black Bermudian are not from Africa but of African descent, so if a European is born in Bermuda what does that make them, they are still European born in Bermuda, to take it further what if a European was born in Africa what would that make them ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
And for clarification Bermuda has been poisoned with hatred since the first Africans landed on our HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Eyes wide open says:

Lynne Winfield has status, and is marching against others receiving what she has.Give it up Lynne

  20. nuffin but the truth says:

“WHITE MENTAL ILLNESS IS KILLING AFRICAN BERMUDIANS”
No,let’s get it right…plp/biu mental illness is killing Bermudians.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Enough “said”… People displaying signs like that should have been arrested and yes, if they are employed then their employer (if they have any morals) should fire them :-(

      • Ian says:

Your a hypocrite commenting on offensive rhetoric Ray… A big one.

        • Raymond Ray says:

If you know me then you’ll know I’m a far cry from being a “hypocrite commenting on offensive rhetoric…” I speak / write how I see it until proven wrong. Sorry if you are offended, “Ian”.

          • Kunta says:

So she wrote how she sees it, so what ya problem.

            • Creamy says:

So if some yells at marchers from a blacony because that’s “how they see it”, that’s ok is it?

You’re having trouble keeping your story straight aren’t you.

          • Ian says:

I dont have to know you to know that any person who argues justification for the removal of many black families in Tuckers Town on the premise “the white man showed up on these shores first…” has no chance of earning my respect. You are in NO position to refer to the folks you brand as racists. And neither to most of your OBA-blogger colleagues.

            • Raymond Ray says:

:-( Touchy are you Ian? Too bad!Furthermore you don’t need to respect me nor do I need to know “your kind” people like you come a dime a dozen.

            • LOL (Original TM*) says:

I am and will I see you and the PLP bloggers on here as racists. You do more damage to your cause each time you write. So keep it up you continue to justify why I can vote for the PLP for the forseeable furture. It’s the mind set. Not saying that other of other groups don’t have similar feelings towards others but the PLP seem to want to start a real fight.

              LOL

      • Cleancut says:

I would bet my last dollar that this woman was paid to do this by you know who.

        • Kunta says:

You mean how black Surrogates and bloggers (like you) were paid by de grass roots scam.
          LMFAO

        • Cleancut says:

          “DEVIDE AND CONQUER” Tactics!

      • Next says:

        Arrested for WHAT?

        • this would constitute a hate crime says:

In the US (you know, the place that most of our tourists and international business comes from) this would constitute a hate crime.

          • Next says:

            1. No it would not. Clearly you have never seen signs and protests in the US as they have even more freedom of speech/expression than we do. They still even have KLAN rallies so what are you talking about?

            2. This is Bermuda so your comment is irrelevant.

I’ll ask again, what is she supposed to be arrested and charged with? A sign is not a hate crime. She didn’t deny anyone anything or assault them in any way because of their race. It’s not a hate crime.

      • aceboy says:

Their employer is government for the most part.

    • Bill says:

      What a very sad day.

Remember, our bread and butter is watching.

nuffin but the truth….you are spot on.They are killing our island

  21. parent of toddlers says:

That sign is racist no matter how you read it. Racism is a learned behavior, no one is born racist. To say the PLP condemns racial attacks on Bermudians means that they should have asked her to put the sign down. If the role was reversed what would the reaction be? Another sign mentioned the moral right to protect he unborn and the living born Bermudian, well there are many born white Bermudians on this island too. To use the excuse that everyone is entitled to their own opinion doesn’t make racism right and has one not learned to never judge a book by the cover? At the end of the day we all bleed red blood. All Bermudians regardless of the color of their skin should want to live in a country that has a stable economy and a place they are proud to call home.

  22. Karma says:

Bermuda (as I knew it) is screwed. Thanks, marchers.

  23. MAKE MY DAY says:

Hardly a *white face* in the small crowd – but that was to be expected!!! AS usual it’s ALL racial and has been for the last 50+ yrs!!!

  24. Eyes wide open says:

Rev Tweed,a non Bermudian,Lynn Winfield a status Bermudian. Both trying to stop PRC holders who have been here over 25 yrs from obtaining status.it sure doe not get better than this!

  25. WTF says:

I’m a PRC holder, but I was born here and your saying they must go but where am I going to go. Bunch of stupid and silly people who have nothing better to do but complain and cry. Instead of complaining why don’t you do something better for your country.

    • Coffee says:

@WTF Thousand of children like you were born in Bermuda on the US BASE , where did they go ? Seriously , are they still here begging for something they knew wasn’t theirs to begin with ? Their parents were also in Bermuda on work permits . The difference between their parents and yours is that they respected the laws of the land and took them back home .

      • Wrong again says:

Coffee, Your first mistake – the military personnel on the base were not here on work permits.

And your second mistake. As for the PRC’s in question (the ones that arrived pre-89) they came at a time where they had a reasonable expectation that if they lived here, worked hard, and kept their noses clean, that they’d eventually be granted status. [In fact that's the reason for the magic 1989 cutoff date in the original PRC legislation - those people came here and had a legitimate expectation that they could obtain status.]

        • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Don’t forget, the US bases were considered US soil, so any children born to US personnel working there were considered to be born in the USA.

  26. Dreadlock says:

Lynn Winfield,a status Bermudian,Rev.Tweed a work permit holder, both objecting to PRC holders who have been here 25+ yrs getting status? Those science fiction writers could not dream this up!

    • Navin Johnson says:

if the Reverend is on a work permit can you just imagine the outrage if the PLP were in power and he was demonstrating against them? Colonel Burch would have him out on the next plane…..

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Reverend Tweed was born to Bermudian parents overseas, but while he has status by birthright, I do not believe he had actually lived here until he moved here in January 2013.

        • Creamy says:

He had one Bermudian parent. No other connection. The PRCs have more if a right to status than he does. He’s the epitome of a paper Bermudian. If he is even Bermudian at all.

          • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Must be his dad is the Bermudian cause if not he’s not Bermudian.

            LOL

  27. Triangle Drifter says:

These people will march & strike themselves out of existence then will wonder how it happened & blame somebody else.

Bermuda used to be the envy of the world.

    • Kunta says:

When did we stop being de envy of the world, last time I checked people are still lining up to come here to better their life.

      • Really? says:

What a dreamer. No one is lining up. In fact we are being laughed at overseas.

A small pathetic myoptic busk and nation saddled with the hate if yesterday.

        The world has move on.

We will just dig ourselves deeper now.

Good going sign lady. Spit your hate. Rock it…it becomes you.

        Have a blessed day

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

We used to get nurses from Britain, Canada, US wanting to come work at the hospital, because it gave them a chance to come work somewhere like Bermuda, but the word of what it is like to work there under Bermudian management has gotten out to the employment organizations and now most of nurses come from the Philippines or Caribbean. Our reputation is not what it used to be, and if you think it is, that tells us just how aware of reality you truly are.

  28. Terry says:

    Valid points Redbeard.

Imagine if we all wore Tweed today like years ago.

Can’t wait for Chris and Tweed to bring on the next phase.

  29. nuffin but the truth says:

I hope I don’t ever see that sign waved in the air…It will be taken from her!

    • Coffee says:

And most likely shoved up your past the knee caps and thighs …!! If ever YOU try take it .

  30. Enough says:

I think that woman who was holding up that appalling sign needs to check her lineage…….

  31. mixitup says:

If most of these bloggers were as disgusted with the institutionalized Racism, the fine line racism worded in these blogs, and the social injustices that black Bermudians face on a daily then I may, just may take them seriously. But because its a bit uncomfy for them to shake up their world of privilege, we will continue on this path to the demise of this country.

    • Sandgrownan says:

      Privilege? Yeah right.

    • Toodle-oo says:

Please put up a list of these terrible social injustices that local blacks face every day.

I’d like to know what a few of them look like so I might be able to do something about it .

    • Be Fair says:

What world of priveledge are you talking about ? There is NO silver spoon in my mouth mixitup ! I have suffered more adversity than you will ever know as you do not know my journey. I am a white Bermudian and if I have had a priveledge please tell me what it is and I will tell you a different story . How dare you judge me !There was NOTHING fine line about this racist sign and if I had carried it I would be in a prison cell .

    • Do you honestly ... says:

Do you have any idea what you’re talking about?

      • mixitup says:

Do I? I’ve live it Pal. Take off you rose coloured glasses for a second, you may see a lot that you don’t like.

        • Be Fair says:

Take yours off Pal , and you may see something you DO like !!

        • Toodle-oo says:

Still waiting for that list .
One based on hard facts not imaginary things .

  32. swing voter says:

my 2 cents…..Tony Brannon should marry the ‘lady’ carrying the blatantly racist sign….perfect match for a marriage based on bigotry

    • The Sign Lady - Peggy Burns says:

      swing voter:

Me marry Tony Brannon? I am already married to one of my own–a man of African ascent. Been married for 46 years. Many, many, many seasons ago when I didn’t know better–ignorant of my his/herstory, I would have readily approved of sleeping with the enemy. However, NOT SO TODAY! Commitment to father/mother universe, commitment to my family, commitment to my race.

      • So ... says:

With all due respect to your existing relationship you’re now saying that you wouldn’t marry someone whose pigmentation doesn’t match your own?

      • Creamy says:

So you see other races as “the enemy”. Why am I not surprised.

      • White (therefore mentally ill) says:

The ENEMY? Really. You must be a troll, because no right minded person would ever perpetuate this nonsense. I hope you have no children or grandchildren you will pollute with this rubbish. You are trying to starta race war, and the ENEMY isnt falling for it so shut de heck up.

I bet you claim to love “GOD” too. Its really laughable!!!!!!

      • let-go-of-the-hatred says:

Dear sign lady: I’m sorry that you are filled with such hatred and disdain for those that do not match your heritage & skin colour.

Do you not think that your lofty enthusiasm wouldn’t be better served trying to work with the people that are in your country, rather than drawing lines in the sand separating them all into different groups from which you can judge & point fingers?

I never in my life thought that I would ever read such horribly hateful, nasty comments in 2014.

There are going to be people of all races in Bermuda and all over the world. I would imagine your time would be better served trying to get along with others rather than letting the hatred you are so clearly filled with fester into a rotting cancer and eating you up whole.

I’m a Caucasian. I am white. I’m most definitely not rich, have put myself through school (my parents are gone), worked all my life for everything I’ve had. Don’t get into trouble. I treat everyone equally regardless of race, and always have. Maybe it’s that I was never taught to hate other people, as it really IS learned. You can disguise hatred in religion or “personal beliefs” and opinions but it doesn’t make it any less hateful.

I’m the type of person that if I’m walking around during Cupmatch will invite you over for a glass of Swizzle and some food. Even you, sign lady, even you. Because maybe it’s time everyone put their differences aside & just tried to make things work. :(

  33. World view says:

Whilst I abhor the racism surrounding the status issue, I do believe that it is wrong to grant these people status.
There are numerous other countries in the world that have much more stringent citizenship requirements and which would never allow full citizenship to immigrants (for example, you could be born in China and live in China all your life, but you will never be allowed a Chinese passport unless you are ethnic Chinese). Bermuda is not on its own in protecting its nationals.

I believe a practical solution should be agreed upon. For those people who have worked here up until retirement (whether PRC or not), grant them a permit to stay indefinitely upon retirement. For those who claim bermuda is now their “home” and they wish to stay here, then they should be made more than welcome to stay. For those who claim it is their “home” but then retire to their home countries, then why should they and their children be granted citizenship?

    • SMH2 says:

PRCs are already permitted to live and work here without restrictions. They cannot vote and they cannot do jury service.

    • Creamy says:

The decision to, as you put it, “grant these people status”, has been taken. 13 years ago. The right was granted to them in 2001 when the Bermuda government passed the law giving them the right. The law is the law. All the marches and wringing of hands in the world won’t change that. It is what it is.

    • Do you have any idea what the PRC legislation says? says:

PRC’s already have the right to live here permanently with no work permit.

There is also a residency permit that allows anyone to live here permanently as long as they don’t work so your retiree could remain here forever if that’s what they wanted. That one has been around for as long as I can remember (long pre-dating the PRC legislation).

    • brigadooner says:

Actually there is a naturalization process in china. Here’s a link to the application page: http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/chinese/naturalisation.htm

    • Allspice says:

In any case I am not so sure we should aspire to be more like China. Are we really using China as an example of the right and fair way for a government to treat its people?

  34. Ringmaster says:

Does anyone who marched realize that they were not marching against PRCs applying for status? They were actually marching to support PRCs applying for status. They are right to be confused as the message changes but Rev Tweed states clearly he rejects the fear and scaremongering put out to create hysteria. That clearly points to the PLP, and to an extent CURB. The march was in fact to demand Government reviews and amends the current law to allow a more fair application process. Did the marchers understand that? It seems not by the PLP signs and comments. In addition the wording of the repulsive sign had nothing to do with the march. Clearly the march was in support of PRCs but the marchers were not. No wonder there is so much fear and hysteria.

  35. Cowpolly says:

The Rev. Tweed was plainly not worth his salt in the USA so now he is here spilling his vomit on the weak in Bermuda! Blind leading the weak, so typical of that same PLP/BIU 500 !! They have yet to notice their group is getting smaller because of their unjust and hate behaviour! Further more I am Bermudian first ! Not Portugese, not African, not English, American,Canadian, “BERMUDIAN” ! African Bermudian, give me a break Rev. Tweed and take your vomit back to the USA!

    • Raymond Ray says:

He has “a chip on his shoulders, a dime in his throat” so all required now is a boot in the butt! Any so called Rev. like that need not be here stirring up trouble.

  36. YADON says:

    Leviticus 19:33-34:
When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
    Leviticus 24:22:
“You are to have the same law for the alien and the native born. I am the Lord your God.”
    and Ezekiel 47:21-23:
“You are to distribute this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. You are to allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens who have settled among you and who have children. You are to consider them as native-born Israelites; along with you they are to be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. In whatever tribe the alien settles, there you are to give him his inheritance,” declares the Sovereign Lord.

  37. The Sign Lady - Peggy Burns says:

Food, shelter and clothing–therewith be content. Speaking about my employer firing/dimissing me: My employer is mother/father universe. Thus far, they have maintained my services for more than 578,556 hours and the clock is still ticking. I am a volunteer/unsalaried worker–one who seeks to give and longs for justice and a peaceful, comfortable, safe existence for my people.

You spoke about imprisoning me: Believe it or not–like it or not, I am–we all are already prisoners–physically free but mentally locked in by MIMDI and I merely exposed the perpetrator.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

We are as free as we see ourselves and are burdened or lifted by what we allow to live in our hearts.

“We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind….” Marcus Garvey, Nova Scotia, October 1937.

  38. HeyBye says:

There are those that say, that women that was displaying that despicable sign was exercising her freedom of speech. If that is the case, let’s march around with the Swastika and those with any intelligence will know the history of that symbol and let’s see how that goes over, it is freedom of speech!
These idiots who return to Bermuda after living abroad and who failed to make something of themselves; return frustrated and angry at the world. What do they do? Make Bermudians lives miserable by inciting trouble, racism and propaganda. Misery enjoys the company of misery.
It is their personal vendetta on society, for their own personal failures.
These marchers who buy this crap hook line and sinker, do not have a clue that they are marching themselves out of a job and money in their pockets ,by showing current and future investors in Bermuda that it is not a stable rational place, to invest. Thus encouraging them to take their money elsewhere in the world where it will be welcomed, gratefully.

  39. James Herald says:

If someone is born here or spent 25 years here, they should be allowed to become a citizen. It is reasonable and fair. People who think otherwise are pretty thoughtless and shallow in my opinion. The lady with the White Mental Illness sign – should be ashamed. I certain hope someone identifies her soon – I’d love to meet her to find what happened to her to give her so much hate inside. I feel sorry for her – such ignorance.

  40. Kathy says:

Let’s drop the racial issues and get back to the actual issue the march began…PRC should not translate into status! End of story! It was promised when PRC came out that it would not, under any circumstances, in the future translate into status.

More importantly, there are people here who arrived on the island as children and still are not entitled to status nor do they qualify for PRC! Why should someone who came on a work permit be entitled to citizenship over someone who was brought here (not out of his/her own free will), grew up here, married here, had children here and knows no other home!

LET’S TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN NON-BERMUDIAN CHILDREN FIRST!!!!! Then we can discuss the guest workers who have, in most cases, overextended their stay!!!

    • Except ... says:

Except that the PRC’s in question came here pre 1989 which was before the government stopped discretionary grants of status. Before that they had a reasonable expectation that they could eventually apply for status (that’s actually the reason the original PRC legislation included the 1989 date).

    • serz doe says:

      Idiot.

    • Hmmm says:

Kathy these folks have been here most of their adult lives , they are part of the fabric of Bermuda. These PRC and their children are the non-Bermudian folks you are talking about.

  41. Alvin Williams says:

Rev.Tweed is the son of Kingsley Tweed one the Bermudian activist who led the campaign to destroyed Bermuda’s racist system of racial segregation and as a result the elder Tweed was force into exile.
Rev. Tweed therefore has more legitimacy to return to the home of his father to help his people gain justice in their country; in other words he is on the right side of history.
He certainly has more legitimacy than the African/American political mercenary the One Bermuda Alliance brought in to conduct a dirty tricks campaign to help them win the election. Therefore Rev. Tweed has the support of Bermudians and we will back his leadership to the hilt.

    • Creamy says:

He’s an expat, coming over here and abusing the government that we Bermudians elected. His threats are anti-Bermudian. He should be deported.

    • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Get it right not All Bermudians at all. Only some of them.

      LOL

  42. Alvin Williams says:

Racism is a form of mental illness and the European has turn it into an art.

  43. The Sign Lady - Peggy Burns says:

It’s not your call to tell me to remove your boot from around my neck, you can’t put me in pain and then design my relief.” Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP–PLP, Government Minister of Tourism & Transport–July 1, 2005.
I hope that you can now SEE (overstand) just how powerful and deadly the communicable (MIMDI) truly is to its prey.

    • Sandgrownan says:

So what does that have to do with PRC’s and status?

      Nothing.

      • Next says:

When are you going to address my question I asked you? This is the one time I’ve seen you so quiet. No struggle to speak of right? Right.

    • Cleancut says:

Do you think all white Bermudians and residents have a disdain of black people in Bermuda?

    • Ringmaster says:

I can certainly see where Dr Brown is coming from. Very downtrodden and persecuted. Have you seen what he is building in Martha’s Vineyard? It is not a small shack. Looks like about $4million, so do you really think he is a sufferer like you?

      • The Sign Lady - Peggy Burns says:

        Ringmaster,

All I say is–good for him and I sincerely hope that he lives long and enjoys every inch of his new dwelling. I applaud my people’s successes. I am in no way covetous, bitter and envious like you and others who think as you do.

        • Ringmaster says:

Covetous, bitter and envious? No chance. I just feel sorry for people who were taken in by his charisma and pretence to be concerned for the ordinary Bermudian, only for them to have been deceived and lied to. Not to mention the debt he and his elitist MPs created and left for generations in the future to try and control and pay down while he is enjoying his wealth that you so admire.

  44. GOD1ST says:

Stand your ground Nana Peggy Burns. I love what you are doing.

  45. Be Fair says:

So what is Peggy Burns going to do when she gets to the Pearly gates and finds a couple of white angels up there that are willing to show her around, will she refuse and show them her sign?
