Roban: ‘Downward Crime Continues A Trend’

August 12, 2014

The downward crime trend is a continuance of a trend that has been occurring over the past 4 years and is direct result of ongoing cooperation between members of the community, the Bermuda Police Service and the Government, Shadow Public Safety Minister Walter Roban said.

Mr. Roban said, “The briefing on crime statistics revealed several noteworthy facts

  • “This downward crime trend is a continuance of a trend that has been occurring over the past 4 years and not just during the OBA’s 18 months in office
  • “It has come as a direct result of ongoing cooperation between members of the community, the Bermuda Police Service and the Government

“These facts validate efforts over successive administrations to provide more funding to the police, increased manpower, expanded training, expanding community action activities, expanded use of modern technology and the growth of neighborhood watch groups.

“None of these alone could have created this downward trend; together these actions taken by the BPS, the community and the government have assisted in the 4 year downward trend in overall crime stats.

“This has not been simply an 18 month shift but the result of consecutive years of work that has brought about these promising results.

“The community and all involved should be pleased, but not given a false sense of assurance. The ongoing jobs crisis, in particularly youth unemployment will create a greater need for community cooperation and a need for our youth to continue choosing positive alternatives such as entrepreneurship, personal and professional development. Collectively and cooperatively, we can continue this downward trend in crime stats,” concluded Mr. Roban.

Woban…the great big upward trend started in 2007/2008.

That is what happened with the PLP “Softly softly” approach to crime.

Stop trying to take credit for something you are not a part of.

    Disingenious Roban.

    Shame on you

  3. JCS says:

Mr. Roban likes to state that the present drop in crime figures carries on from when the PLP were in power, but won’t admit that the financial mess we’re in is a direct result of the mismanagement of his party when in power!

    • bdaboy says:

As someone in the garbage thread stated, the PLP were in power 19 months ago, you can’t keep blaming them for this.

      • Double D says:

You can’t blame them for overspending, piling on the debt and creating an unsustainable and costly civil service who together with debt payments gobble up over 50% of Government revenue?

Between 2004 and 2012 BDA Government revenue increased 29% while simultaneously increasing Government expenses by 74% over the same time period. As a result the deficit grew by 2,287% which piled on the mountain of debt we find ourselves in these days.

The reckless spending started in 2004. So who is at fault? Let me guess, the blameless, infalliable PLP right? Please point the fingers where you think they belong.

*Let me guess NOT, the blameless, infalliable PLP right? Please point the fingers where you think they belong.

If you’re responding to me, I think you missed the sarcasm in my post. I agree with you.

    • gimme a break... says:

…i’d say this is selective amnesia or cherry picking of the facts.

it would be safe to paraphrase the following on the mountain of debt this way:

“This has not been simply an 18 month shift but the result of consecutive years of work that has brought about these [promising ] disastrous [my words]results.

      lol

…please Jonathsn Smith is and has been out of the loop for months, years. Relevancy is needed not some arm chair critic fondly reminiscing about his past.

Got that right he ain’t going to do anything. He could have when he was commissioner but didn’t he can’t help Bermuda

Far as I know people are being attacked and there cases are not making it to court. Lots of it is kept quiet don’t want to scare the public
