Girlfriendconnect Retreat And Conference
On Thursday 9th October to Saturday 11th October 2014, the ADHT Bermuda Foundation will be collaborating with the GirlFriendConnect [GFC] organisation from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to host the GFC’s 2014 Retreat and Conference at the Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa in Sandys.
This year’s conference will see members of the GFC organisation join with local residents participating together at the conference both as speakers and as audience members.
A spokesperson said, “GirlfriendConnect is a subsidiary of Mind Body and Soul Connections [MBSC] of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The organisation is described as “a catalyst for positive change and growth in the Black community through education, enrichment and empowerment.”
“The mission of GFC is to “create a single source, multi-channel, value-added network for its membership and business partners. GCC believes successful Black business empower our communities and gives us options, a voice and a place at the table when decisions are made.”
“The theme for this year’s conference/retreat is: Transitions: Navigating Change And Embracing Life. Activities start on Wednesday, 8th October with a Welcome Dinner and Reception at the Breeze’s Restaurant at Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa, with the workshops taking place from Thursday to Saturday starting at 10.00am until 12.00noon each day.
“The Thursday workshop is titled – “Pieces of Me: Identifying and Connecting the Pieces of Who You Are”. Featured speakers at this session are: Kim E, the founder of GirlFriendConnect; Dr. Jolene Bean, history lecturer at the Bermuda College and Maxine Esdaille, Chair of the ADHT Bermuda Foundation. The workshop will explore DNA search, the value of family genealogy and how culture defines us…
“Friday’s session is titled – “Evaluating Your Ship – The Map for Reaching Your Destination and a Balanced Journey”. This workshop will discuss ways to “crank up” your physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wholeness in an authentic and sustainable way. We will examine how to successfully navigate the changes in our course.
“Featured speakers are -from Philadelphia: Lydia A Henry, Certified Professional Coach; Dr. Beverly Richards, Psychotherapist and Stress Management Specialist; and local Executive Director at the Women’s Resource Centre, Patrice Frith-Hayward.
“On Saturday we end the conference with a panel discussion on: “Economic Development, Empowerment and Leadership for Women of African Descent”. Panelists will include- from Philadelphia: Barbara Wellons, telecommunications Senior Sales and Marketing Executive, as moderator; Florence Torson-Hart, Senior Financial Analyst with Merrill Lynch; and local panelists Paula Cox, Former Premier and Minister of Finance; Renee Ming, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Banking, Butterfield Bank; and Sancha Durham, local Entrepreneur and Owner of NailBar.
“A variety of packages are available to local residents to attend the conference/retreat which include the Welcome Dinner and Cocktail Party or just the sessions alone. Persons can attend each session for the small fee of $30 each or enjoy a Buffet Breakfast and the workshop for a fee of $60.
