ABIC: America’s Cup Will Stimulate Economy
The Association of Bermuda International companies [ABIC] congratulated the Bermuda Government after it was announced that Bermuda would be the host for the 2017 America’s Cup event.
Mr. George Hutchings, Chairman of ABIC, commended the Government on their support of the America’s Cup event, adding “that this will invariably stimulate the local economy by supporting investment in the island’s tourism and transport infrastructure.”
“This is just what we need to create confidence in Bermuda, drive the development of hotels and other visitor amenities throughout the Island and provide a critical stimulus to the construction sector,” said Mr. Hutchings.
“It will increase the competitiveness of our Island as a destination and it will promote investment and job creation for Bermudians,” continued Mr. Hutchings.
“This is a win-win for International Business as well given how our customers and suppliers utilize the island’s tourism infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants, transportation and leisure amenities when they visit the island.”
“ABIC recognizes that, in the current economy with Bermudians out of work and apartments unrented, there is an immediate need for an inward investment stimulus, and we are very pleased to see this will happen as we prepare to host the 2017 America’s Cup.
“This event is an important win as we formulate and execute substantive strategies which maintain and grow tourism, international business and seek additional revenue sources for Bermuda,” added Mr. Hutchings.
“Bermuda is business friendly and the domicile of choice for those companies that are currently here and those companies and business opportunities that may be created here in the future.”
This is great news, for sure. Please though, let’s not lose our minds. Many of our local systems are going to be stretched and tested. Let’s plan and prepare in a sensible way for this starting right away… and not procrastinate and then try to do the Bermudian scramble when time is running out.
Great news for Bermuda. This will raise our profile as an offshore destination and encourage new investments and subsequently jobs
I wish you lot would stop debating about the money and direct positive energy into making the event a fantastic success.
