BHCS & Brown Darrell To Host ‘Docs for Dinner’

Bermuda HealthCare Services and Brown-Darrell Clinic will be hosting their quarterly “Docs for Dinner” event on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Café Lido.

A spokesperson said, “Dr. Milan Oleksak, Specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Bermuda, and Dr. Christoph Wald, Executive Vice Chairman, Department of Radiology at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Massachusetts, will be the two speakers this Thursday evening for “Docs for Dinner,” at Cafe Lido. Over thirty doctors are expected to attend the presentation and receive two Continuing Medical Education credits.

“Dr. Oleksak graduated as a medical practitioner in South Africa in 1987. He completed his surgical pre- fellowship training in the UK, and obtained his fellowships [FRCS] at Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1996. He returned to South Africa to specialise in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cape Town.

“He acquired the South African College of Medicine Fellowship FCS[SA]Orth in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2000. Subsequently he then spent two years in Sheffield, UK completing two fellowships in Adult and Paediatric Limb Reconstruction and Ilizarov Surgery. He spent further time in Lecco in Italy and Kurgan in Siberia to further his training in the Ilizarov method.

“Dr. Oleksak started practice in Bermuda in 2003 until 2010, where after he spent a two year period at Gloucester Royal Hospital in the UK, acting as the Trauma Lead. During this period he established an Orthoplastics service in conjunction with a Limb Reconstructive Unit. He has since resumed his practice in Bermuda.

“Dr. Oleksak specializes in the treatment of complex trauma, limb reconstruction and various aspects of general orthopaedic surgery, including foot and ankle conditions. Dr. Oleksak will speak on the subject of “Bone Sepsis: A Surgical Perspective.”

“Registration and cocktails will begin at 6:30 pm, dinner will begin at 7:00 pm, with presentations to follow.
