Consulate Speaker To Discuss Teen Literature

The U.S. Consulate and the Bermuda Youth Library have announced that Boston librarian Laura Koenig will be the featured speaker at a public meeting on December 2 at 6.00pm at the Bermuda National Library, where she will discuss children and teen literature, making recommendations for all ages, from infants through young adults.

A spokesperson said, “Laura Koenig has worked with children and teens in public libraries for eight years. She is currently the Team Leader for Central Library Children’s Services at the Boston Public Library, where she oversees a growing children’s department that serves children and families from Boston and beyond.

“Laura was an integral part of the design team responsible for the award-winning renovation of the Children’s and Teen Rooms at the Copley Library which re-opened early in 2015.

“Laura presents regularly at major American library conventions on new trends in children’s and teen programming. She also regularly moderates panels on children’s and teen literature at the annual Boston Book Festival, one of the largest literary fairs in the United States. Laura attended Carleton College and the Simmons School of Library and Information Science.

“Laura, who is the daughter of U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig, will also take time out of her Thanksgiving visit with family to meet with library staff to discuss the topic of informal learning at libraries.”

The Consul General said, “Laura is the first of our visitors to be asked to share her expertise while visiting in Bermuda.

“In the future, I hope that our other guests who have specific expertise in various subjects will be amenable to sharing some of what they know and love with the community here in Bermuda. ”
