Bermuda Promoted In Midst Of Snowstorm

January 24, 2016

While New Yorkers were being affected by the massive blizzard that struck the East Coast this weekend, they were also being invited to visit Bermuda, with a local resident who was stuck in New York due to the snowstorm happening upon a sign promoting Bermuda showing amidst the snow.

Stephen Hartwig captured the photo below, saying he had “had to stop, smile and take a photo” and also noted how the word ‘Bermuda’ was peeking out right above the layers of snow.

According to Reuters, “Millions of residents, business owners and workers began digging out on Sunday from a massive blizzard that brought Washington, New York and other northeastern U.S. cities to a standstill, killing at least 19 people in several states.

“The storm was the second-biggest in New York City history, with 26.8 inches (68 cm) by midnight Saturday, just shy of the record 26.9 inches set in 2006, the National Weather Service said.

“Thirteen people were killed in weather-related car crashes in Arkansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia on Saturday. One person died in Maryland and three in New York City while shoveling snow. Two died of hypothermia in Virginia, officials said.`

A CNN time lapse of the first 24 hours of the blizzard in DC.

“New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency, as did 10 other governors. A ban imposed on all travel on New York City area roads and on Long Island, except for emergency vehicles, was set to end at 7 a.m. on Sunday. Bridges and tunnels into the city were also set to reopen.

“The snow also engulfed the Mid-Atlantic cities of Baltimore and Philadelphia while about 150,000 customers in North Carolina and 90,000 homes in New Jersey lost electricity.”

Best way to advertise Bermuda would be to have Bermudian college kids studying abroad walk around in the snowy streets with Bermuda shorts and a blazer carrying signs with pictures of the beach and maybe the current temperature in Bermuda. Because of the novelty, people may take pictures to post on social media etc.Maybe have one of those share and tag to win a trip competitions on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. Who else would be more qualified to explain to potential travelers the beauty of our island than our students… Also I’m sure they could use a little extra cash. Its a win win.

    • Family Man says:

Nice idea but we can’t even get our Tourism minister to wear Bermuda shorts.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

That should be an automatic requirement for the job, along with the knee socks & topsiders.

        • Jus' Wonderin' says:

Not everybody wears that garbage here in Bermuda.

    • Sara Sargasso says:

No disrespect, but what’s so exciting about 60 degrees? Not really beach weather…..

      • mixitup says:

Not at all… Just like South Beach is at 55 degrees presently… Bermuda in the winter can get cool. But I generally love the winters in Bermuda.. They’re like perfect to me.

      • Student says:

You would be pretty surprised at how exciting 60 degrees can be for someone walking around in 27 degree weather. Not saying i’m going swimming before bermuda day but you know, tourists are weird…

  2. mixitup says:

Nice but not eye catching. I hope it rotated to a pic of horseshoe bay, that would look spectacular against that backdrop…

  3. smh says:

Also, would be helpful if a Bermuda ad actually had a picture of Bermuda. Considering people still don’t know we exist….I would have looked at the above ad and thought Bermuda was a type of perfume..

  4. Geisha says:

It’s better than snow storms, that’s the point.

  5. Vulcan Trash Cleaner says:

The advert was terrible,as someone else has said, looked a perfume advert, heck it could also be a drink advert
