BOM To Travel To Guyana To Help Build Homes
Bermuda Overseas Mission [BOM] has arranged its 2016 summer trip, in conjunction with global charity Habitat for Humanity [Habitat], to build homes in Guyana. The mission is planned from 26th July to 9th August.
David Thompson, President of BOM said, “We are very pleased to be working in conjunction with Habitat once again. This will be our 18th overseas trip to support Habitat and the first since a BOM team visited Haiti in March of this year to work with the Feed My Lambs organization.”
“As usual we are planning to take up to 30 Bermudian students and adults to Guyana and our destination will be the capital Georgetown, and the Habitat development area of ‘La Parfaite Harmonie’, where we shall be working on completing a number of single-family homes for families in need”.
Mr. Thompson noted that the mission, will typically include approximately 10 days working on the homes and there is usually a visit to a local school, day care center or orphanage to distribute toys, school supplies and clothes to needy children.
Mr. Thompson added, “At the end of the trip we plan some non-work activities to include a visit to the Kaieteur National Park in the Amazon forest to see the Kaieteur Falls which is the world’s highest single-drop waterfall and an incredible 226 meters [741 feet] high.”
There are limited spaces available to join the trip to Guyana and participants must be 16 years of age.
In support of this trip, BOM has arranged a Fish Fry at Christ Church, Warwick on May 20th prepared by well-known chef “Keith’s Kitchen”.
Mr. Thompson concluded, ‘I am so proud to partner once again with local celebrity chef Keith who has such a large following for his delicious fish dinners.
“In addition to his battered fish, Keith always includes a large portion of fries, peas& rice, coleslaw, a drink and a dessert, which is a great deal for $20. And as it is a holiday weekend we are anticipating a fantastic turn out.”
