Court: Man Charged With Two Firearms Offences

September 28, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 28], a 23-year-old man was charged with firearm offences, with the Court hearing he allegedly shot himself in the hand.

Shayne James was not required to enter a plea as the charges that he faces can only be tried in the Supreme Court.

The first charge was that on 29th August 2016, in Pembroke, and without lawful authority, Smith had handled a firearm. The second was that on the same date and in the same place, Smith had unlawfully discharged a bullet from a firearm.

The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that James had allegedly shot himself in his own left hand.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered James to appear at the November Supreme Court Arraignments, granted bail at $15,000 with one surety; ordered James to surrender all his travel documents; not leave Bermuda without the permission of the Court; and report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
