Court: Cruise Passenger Seeks Speedy Trial

September 6, 2018

A cruise ship passenger who pled not guilty to sexual assault was back in court  hoping to get his trial pushed up to next week.

The 27-year-old New Jersey man, who cannot be named at this stage for legal reasons, must remain in Bermuda until his case is heard.

He is alleged to have committed the offence against a fellow cruise ship passenger on August 10.

His trial was scheduled to start on August 29th, but was pushed back.

His lawyer told the Magistrate that they “need a quick turnaround on the trial” and asked for the trial to begin next week, telling Magistrate Khamisi Tokumbo that “he’s spending money he doesn’t have.”

No trial date was set.
