Column: Update On Our Parish Pride Project

March 27, 2019

[Written by Chris Famous]

We would like to update you on our Parish Pride Project.

Two weeks ago, a number of volunteers were able to scrape down, apply primer and put two coats of paint to the wall of the Salvation Army wall on Roberts Avenue.

Weather permitting, this week Saturday March 30, from 9 am until 1 pm, we will continue our beautification of Roberts Avenue, by painting yet another wall.

This particular wall has deep historic value, as it is the wall that was built by philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Victoria Daulphin.

Within the wall, lies a field that was once used as a cricket pitch for countless young men from the “Back of Town,” many of whom, went on to become some of Bermuda’s leading cricketers.

This particular cricket team was called “The Pond Hill Stars”.

Mrs. Victoria Daulphin, who remains very active in the community, served as the first secretary of BELCO’s Electrical Supply Trade Union or E.S.T.U. in 1965.

So, to honour the legacy of these persons and this field, with the help of many sponsors, we will be brightening up the wall.
