ICC TV To Produce Live Coverage Of 28 Matches
The International Cricket Council today [Oct 17] announced expanded coverage plans for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 with ICC TV set to produce live coverage of 28 matches.
A spokesperson said, “The International Cricket Council today announced expanded coverage plans for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 with ICC TV set to produce live coverage of 28 matches, making this edition the most widely available to watch ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier event in history.
“A range of television and digital platforms will ensure that more fans than ever before are able to connect with of the 14-team tournament which starts in the UAE on 18 October, including via the Official ICC App, ICC T20 World Cup website and through ICC’s continued partnerships with its broadcast and digital partners.
“The event, which sees teams compete for six places at next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be broadcast live across 176 territories via 15 broadcasters thanks to the ICC’s Global Broadcast Partner Star Sports.
“Coverage of the event will carried by the following Broadcast Partners: Star Sports [India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the rest of the Indian Sub-continent], Sky Sports [United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland], SuperSport [South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa], E-Vision [United Arab Emirates], Fox Sports Australia [Australia], Willow TV [USA], Willow Canada [Canada], Sky TV [New Zealand], PTV [Pakistan], ESPN [Caribbean], Digicel [Asia Pacific], Radio Television Afghanistan [Afghanistan], Star Cricket [Hong Kong] and YuppTV.com [Continental Europe, MENA [excl. UAEv and Central Asia].
“Meanwhile, fans in the Indian subcontinent and Afghanistan will, for the first time, be able to view in-match coverage via the ICC’s official Facebook page. Up to six minutes per hour of in-match content, pre-match previews, media conferences, match recaps and event features will be available. In addition, short post-match recaps will be available to view through Facebook in over 200 further territories.
“A newly formed partnership will enable fans in New Zealand to follow the action as it happens in-play via Spark Sport, supported by an array of other event content and match footage.
“Fans can also get involved with the tournament via T20worldcup.com and the official ICC mobile App, which will have all the news, results and video from the event.
“ICC TV will oversee production of the coverage, which will begin 10 minutes before each match. The coverage will continue through the innings interval and conclude with a 10-minute post-game wrap-up, which will include the Player of the Match presentation, a chat with the two captains and a short review of the game.
“A team of experts including Niall O’ Brien and Preston Mommsen, who have played at previous ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier events, will commentate on the action. Former West Indies fast bowler and popular commentator Ian Bishop will be part of the panel along with Rob Key, Alan Wilkins, HD Ackerman, Ed Rainsford, Natalie Germanos, Dirk Nannes and Bazid Khan.
Ian Bishop said, “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has assumed its inimitable position on the global cricketing landscape. There is a frenzy of preparation building up as teams finalize their plans for this much-anticipated global event in 2020. As part of the broadcast team, my colleagues and I are keen to view first-hand the intense competition amongst 14 teams from various corners of the globe as they battle for the final six positions at the Men’s T20 World Cup. It promises to be a special journey.”
Niall O’Brien said, “This tournament always throws up exciting contests. With so much at stake and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to qualify for, there will be plenty of passion, intensity and skill on display. Each team’s preparation has been strong, but there are bound to be plenty of upsets along the way. I am excited to be involved, this time as part of the ICC commentary team.”
Preston Mommsen said, “There is no doubt that the landscape of T20 cricket is constantly evolving and expanding with more and more players and teams gaining the exposure and opportunity that they deserve around the world. The T20 World Cup, however, remains the pinnacle event in this format of the game for any player. I am really looking forward to watching the drama unfold in the UAE. It’s going to be a cracking tournament.”
“The ICC TV coverage will be aided by production partners Sunset+ Vine and OB equipment partners NEP Broadcast Solutions whilst Alston Elliot will provide live real-time scoring graphics.
