Nahki Wells: Leeds Win Can Act As Catalyst
Bermudian footballer Nahki Wells hopes that QPR’s victory over Leeds United “can be the catalyst for a strong run of results.”
Wells’ first-half goal and Liam Kelly’s second-half penalty save saw QPR beat defeat Leeds United on the weekend.
“If we are to be around the top six come May time then I’m sure we will look back to this game as the time when there was a change in momentum,” Wells told www.qpr.co.uk.
“It’s a big win that we really needed against a top side. We ticked those boxes of where we have been vulnerable; clean sheet and working hard collectively off the ball, and we got the result.
“Now, we look forward to the next one and hopefully we can keep this going.”
Wells continued: “There’s no hiding from the fact that last week was disappointing. Our local rivals got the better of us and it wasn’t what we wanted.
“They’re a good side and we have to give them credit but today [Saturday] we played an even better side and we rectified that in front of our own fans, which was a great feeling.”
QPR said, “Wells’ goal came midway through the first half when Ebere Eze’s free-kick deflected into his path. The ball accidentally struck him on the arm before he tucked it into the net and Wells was delighted to notch his 14th of the season.”
He said: “I’m scoring important goals, which is great. Today [Saturday], I was a little bit fortunate but it was a very important goal for us and it keeps our run going at home.
“There was no intention from me. It’s just a bit of luck that it’s hit me there and sometimes you get those.
“I have had a goal or two chopped off this season, which should have stood, so it is swings and roundabouts. It got us three points and that is what I am most happy about.”
