Test On Arrival & Quarantine For At Least 8 Days

August 18, 2020

Effective Tuesday [Aug 25] “any travellers arriving in Bermuda without a pre-departure test taken in the country visited will be required to test on arrival and quarantine for at least eight days,” the Ministry said today.

A Government spokesperson said, “Yesterday the Ministry of Health advised that there were four new COVID-19 cases; three imported and one under investigation. All have been isolated and contact tracing has begun.

“The Bermuda Police Service issued a statement yesterday stating that two of the cases are Police Officers, one of whom does not have a recent travel history. Although these two cases are within the Police Service, to date contact tracing has not yet identified actual contact between them. Investigation continues.

“Case investigation continues for up to 14 days. If by then a source is not identified, the case is classified as “local, unknown contact/source”.

“Further, two of yesterday’s new cases were recent travellers who had negative pre-departure tests and arrival tests and were, therefore, on their ‘mobile quarantine’ and able to move freely.

“The public and travellers are reminded that anyone arriving in Bermuda remains under mandatory 14-day public health monitoring, which includes self-monitoring temperature and symptoms daily and reporting symptoms to the Epidemiology and Surveillance team. This is in addition to mandatory testing, and required mask-wearing and physical distancing per public health guidance.

“Possible contacts of these new cases have been sent communication to advise them of such, with advice on steps they must take for 14 days in order to prevent ongoing spread of COVID-19:

  • Self-quarantine. Strictly adhere to physical distancing; especially from vulnerable persons.
  • Use good hygiene [covering your coughs and sneezes, hand-washing] and mask-wearing.
  • Avoid all public spaces where there is close contact with others, including all public transport [taxis, ferries and buses].
  • Monitor yourself daily over the next 14 days for symptoms such as temperature over 100.4F or 38C, or headache, sore throat, cough, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, muscle aches/pains or fatigue.
  • If contacts develop symptoms they must isolate and contact the public health team on 444-2498.
  • COVID-19 PCR test is recommended if they develop COVID related symptoms, or they are advised otherwise by their physician or the public health team.

“The COVID-19 case management team remains in touch with contacts over the next 14 days. Information on contact tracing can be found at: here [PDF]

“The Ministry of Health reminds contacts that it is very important that they stay at home for the 14 days, as symptoms of COVID-19 can take 14 days to develop. Staying at home will help prevent the spread of the virus to family, friends, the wider community, and particularly those who are vulnerable.  Self-quarantine is important in keeping Bermuda COVID-19 free.

“It is also important for the travellers to remember that while they are on the 14-day mobile quarantine, they must follow all public health guidance and instructions. Travellers are not truly “free to roam” until they clear their day 14-test. They must “roam with utmost care” until then.

“Likewise, the general public is advised to ramp up preventive measures: wash hands frequently, wear masks diligently when mixing with other households, avoid large groups and keep 6 feet away from others if unmasked.

“Lastly, the Cabinet has reviewed the traveller requirements for returning residents. Effective Tuesday 25th August 2020 any travellers arriving in Bermuda without a pre-departure test taken in the country visited will be required to test on arrival and quarantine for at least eight days, requiring a negative test result after day 8 to be released from quarantine. This will come into effect on 25th August 2020. More details will be shared on the coronavirus.gov.bm website shortly.”

This Gov is full of it. The only time the phrase “Mobile Quarantine” 0r (MQF)is used is when speaking of the astronauts that had returned from the Apollo missions. If the Gov is allowing returning passengers to so-call Mobile quarantine then they are NOT really in quarantine. Here they go again playing us for fools.

Getting a PCR test with quick results is not available everywhere in the US. We made several inquiries in New Hampshire and Mass. PCR Covid 19 Pre-tests are available at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. No appointment necessary. Get in line (about an hour), show your Bermuda insurance card and get the results by phone and email within 36 hours (as of Aug. 7th). If you need a hard copy, send your result to a UPS Store and they will print it for you.

Still dont get it why would you allow a person to enter an airport get on a plane with 100 other people and fly home without being tested….no sense at all Bermudians must do the same as all get tested have a result and then you can fly …if one could start a disaster this is the brew
Burt get your head out of the sand and Kim you cant let this happen …he will blame this all on you if/ when it gets out of control…

    • TEST says:

Please tell us which Country in the World is stopping their own citizens from flying home without a test? Before you depart the airport in BDA everyone is tested.

The rest of the islands in the South require a tourist to enter with a test at the airport or be tested there when they arrive that it.

No 2nd or 3rd test which is what we are doing in Bermuda, which is actually stopping people from traveling here.

The problem is they are getting bad advise from who knows the CDC. They are just as ignorant as the public. And I don’t mean that in a derogatory way it only means lack of knowledge.

  4. Bermudian says:

What is the time frame to have the pre test?

  5. lion says:

The phrase “mobile quarantine” was only used by NASA during the Apollo missions for astronauts returning from the moon. It was scraped after Apollo 14.The reason why they called it mobile is because the astronauts were quarantine inside a trailer that was able to be moved from place to place, however, the astronauts were sill in quarantine. the only thing mobile was the trailer. like I said, this Gov is full of it.The astronauts were Not able to “move freely”

    • I'mjustsaying says:

That’s exactly why I said they are ignorant they don’t know what they are talking about.

  6. I'mjustsaying says:

So if you go away and when you come back you gotta quarantine for 8 days. So who is gonna pay me while I am out of work? Because the employer is certainly not gonna pay for the time I am out.

    • Andrew says:

      Pretty easy answer for you:

      1) dont travel, you know the risks
      2) get a negative test result before arriving back on the island

      Simple.

      • Here we go again says:

Here’s whats simple… You can’t deny Residence from returning home!! That’s why we aren’t required to be pre tested! We simply cannot quarantine in another country in a hotel somewhere for two weeks! Please stop! Just stop with the ignorant suggestions. It’s just plain illegal for our government to not allow bermudians back home and requiring them to pre test screws them from coming if they test positive. Further more these people that are testing positive on arrive aren’t running around the island! We have quarantine rules and testing out the Ying yang. Stop panicking and educate yourself before shooting of with your mouth! SMFH!!
