Three Vehicle Traffic Collision On Middle Road
A three vehicle collision — involving a bus, car and motorcycle — occurred in the west end this evening [Jan 25] with firefighters ‘using lifting bags’ lifting the bus to free the motorcycle rider who was trapped under the bus.
A BFRS spokesperson said, “At 6:23pm on Monday January 25th, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Dispatch center received a report of a road traffic collision near Fairhaven Road Southampton.
“BFRS responded from the Port Royal Fire Station with one appliance and a total of 4 firefighters.
“Upon arrival to the incident, fire crews saw three vehicles involved in the road traffic collision, one bus, one car and one motorcycle. After surveying the scene they found one male rider of the motorcycle with leg injuries trapped under the bus.
“Firefighters using lifting bags lifted the bus in order to remove the patient who was then transported to KEMH via ambulance.
“The cause of the road traffic collision is under investigation by the Bermuda Police Service.”
Update: The BPS said, “Around 6:10pm today, Monday 25th January 2021, first responders attend a report of a three vehicle collision, involving a private motorcar, a PTB bus and a motorcycle, along Middle Road near the junction with Fairhaven Lane, Sandys.
“Early reports indicate that a 25 year old male motorcyclist, traveling in an easterly direction, attempted to overtake vehicles traveling in the same direction, when he lost control of his cycle and collided with a private car traveling in a westerly direction.
“As a result, the motorcycle rider was thrown into the path of a PTB bus which was also traveling east. The injured male was taken to KEMH for treatment to his injuries, the extent of which the is not known at this time. The bus driver and the motorcar driver were not reported to be injured.
“The scene is being processed by forensic officers and traffic collision investigators. Traffic delays are to be expected. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call 211 or, the main police number 295-0011.”

The Road safety needs to do more education to these motorcycle riders, not car drivers, motorcyclists! Do more adverts and signage, etc, Roadside accident bikes, do not condemn car drivers for their bad riding habits by putting down rumble strips, speed bumps and speed cameras which the latter will cost money to operate that the government does not have and want to save!
All the education in the world is not going to change the mindset of these out of control people on the roads. I’ll say it again , they’re incapable of learning and laws don’t apply to them.
And if you truly believe that it’s only the motor bike riders then you’re not paying attention. The lawless and unruly bike riders make up a very specific group. Do they suddenly become sane drivers when they graduate to a car ? Not by a long shot.
Please trade your steering wheel for a set of handlebars for a month or two (and make sure it includes wet weather too) and then get back to me how sensible and safe you think the car and truck drivers are.
