“Unreasonable Stance” On Mandatory Quarantine

June 16, 2021

“The Government’s unreasonable stance on the imposition of the luxury hotel quarantine gets more ridiculous as each day passes,” the Constitutional Freedom Bermuda group said, adding that Bermuda’s Covid-19 “status is improving despite the fact that there has been no mandatory supervised quarantine.”

A spokesperson said, “The Government’s unreasonable stance on the imposition of the luxury hotel quarantine gets more ridiculous as each day passes; the PLP government is dividing Bermuda into the two Bermudas that it so used to referring to for its political gain; this time, however, the two Bermudas are segregated into the vaccinated and unvaccinated.

“Last night, the Government announced that all but two Covid-19 restrictions would be lifted because Bermuda’s Covid-19 epidemiological status was heading in the right direction. Despite this fact, the Government still intends to implement the ill-advised and unreasonable mandatory luxury hotel quarantine for unvaccinated travelers will come into effect on 20 June 2021, after making several changes to the effective date.

“The effective date of the supervised quarantine has been changed by the Government several times:

  • 8 June 2020 [as per Government press conference]
  • 13 June 2020 [as per Government press release]
  • 18 July 2020 [as per Government website]
  • 18 June 2020 [as per Government website]
  • 20 June 2020 [as per Government press conference]

“40 days have passed since 7 May 2021 when the Minister of National Security first announced Government’s intention to implement supervised quarantine. 40 days and 40 nights have passed and Bermuda’s Covid-19 epidemiological status is improving despite the fact that there has been no mandatory supervised quarantine.

“Premier Burt and his PLP Cabinet are segregating Bermuda and all Bermudians should be concerned,” the group added.

With all of this opposition, I really do not understand how the mandatory quarantine is still going into effect. Bermuda government seems not to care about anybody’s opinions or concerns. I have been battling with myself everyday as to if I should get the vaccine or not. I do not want to, I don’t think I need it, it is suppose to be my choice. But I travel for work and to visit loved ones. With this mandate they are taking my choice away – however you put it they are coercing me into doing something I do not believe it.

I don’t want to get the vaccine because I do not think the mandate is going to last long. But than again, with all this uncertainty, lack of information, and pushing back dates I just do not know. It seems like they are just scaring people into running to get vaccinated. Keep in mind that vaccinated people can still carry and pass the vaccine. Keep in mind that the vaccine is NOT FDA approved.

    • Micro says:

Approved for emergency use. Do you understand what that means?

      • trufth says:

Yes, it means it did not qualify for FDA approval. Period. And it STILL hasn’t been approved because testing is still ongoing.

Don’t you dare tell or guilt anyone into injecting themselves with an experiment. That’s a huge ask.
You have a lotta ballz to expect anyone to do that. Get back to me when it does get FDA approval. Then we will talk. Until then, this policy is 100% coercion.

    • Portia says:

K, some of the best advice I was given is “When you don’t know what to do, do nothing.” When there are various options in front of you and you are unsure which is the correct path to choose, just wait awhile. That’s all. After a while the right choice will become clear. Anyone telling you “No no you must decide NOW!” is likely selling something and does not have your best interest at heart. But those who truly care about you and value you (including an employer) will patiently respect your space and allow you to make your own decisions. Be wary of those who don’t.

    • Andre Place says:

You are battling with yourself because you see the truth but the fear and ego is fighting against it. Look deep within and you will be free from the fear and the ego. Love is the number healer for all illness, just remember that. What you see is conditioned, not unconditional.

spotty says he likes the biblical reference to 40 days and 40 nights..or maybe they quotin’ from de Michael Jackson song.

    • Spotty says:

not FDA approved..which vax you thinking of??

      • A Reality Check says:

None of the vaccines have yet received FDA approval.
They only have received “EUA” which is “Emergency Use Authorizarion”.
This, by itself, is concerning to many.
In addition, all the big pharmaceutical companies that have manufactured the vaccines have a waiver whereby none can be sued for damages their vaccines may cause.
This was enacted by Congress in the mid 90’s.
Hence you must sign a waiver when you accept the vaccine.
This too is concerning to many.

    • Kathy says:

Have you seen some of the rubbish that the FDA has approved? Foods that are barely foods, so full of chemicals and garbage; allowing some industries to self-regulate (i.e. lie, cheat and steal to feed their greed) because the FDA don’t know anything about the industries they have oversight of. Their approval, or lack thereof, means absolutely nothing. Refer to the science. Not the FDA. But still your choice.

    • jj says:

Half of the vaccinated population has been ‘coerced’ for one reason or another. This issue is bigger than the PLP. There is a global initiative to get as many people vaccinated as possible and Bermuda being the first world country it is, is near the top of the list.

It is not right but the odds (right now) are stacked against the unvaccinated.

  2. It’s time for a change says:

For all those aggrieved by this unreasonable stance as I am, in the wise words of Barack Obama, “don’t complain, vote”. To all those who feel like me, don’t get distracted, don’t lose your energy, don’t forget and please don’t lose your cool. I have feelings and I have a voice. Enough is enough. A vacation is not a luxury for some people but a mental health necessity. After following all of the rules and quarantining at home while still practicing social distancing for close to two years, I’m now being told that I will be require to mandatory quarantine at a designated hotel is like a slap in the face. This is the same house I had to stay in when we went on two lockdowns, but now it’s not suitable? I could never forget this.

So we have come to the point of no cup match again, mandatory hotel quarantines, no local sports, healthy children having to wear masks in class while watching places like Florida and other parts of the world move on, really. Also the CDC reported that there are spikes in Florida in spite of more people getting vaccinated, look it up. This basically means there are going to be more people testing positive for covid even though they have been immunized. Don’t take my word for it look it up on the CDC. Does this mean fully vaccinated visitors who test positive will have to quarantine for 14day at a hotel facility? I think it’s important to have those discussion because that scenario is coming very soon. Talk about potentially stifling a country with bad public relations.

And on top of everything else, I had to watch foreign promotions come to my country and enjoy more freedoms then I currently did.
And all I’m asking for, like so many others, is to stay home to quarantine and just wait patiently until i determine if the vaccine is indeed right for me.

Really how am I suppose to feel comfortable with you on one hand telling me that the vaccine is safe but on the other hand asking me to sign a waiver that you are not going to be held liable if something goes wrong. Where on gods green earth is that right? And why aren’t more people talking about this?? It just appears that it’s a have your cake and eat it to position. If that is the case, ok then. Every day without is a day closer to.

One day I will be asked for a vote of confidence. I will then have to remember how you made me feel during this time when compassion and consistency was needed over appearance and arrogance. I will tell you what you told me for close to two years…..no. If I’m the only person who feels like this then so be it but sadly enough I don’t think I am.

  4. Joe Bloggs says:

“The Government’s unreasonable stance on the imposition of the luxury hotel quarantine gets more ridiculous as each day passes”

I accept that Hamilton Princess can be described as a “luxury hotel”, but Rosemont Guest Houses? Really?

“the PLP government is dividing Bermuda into the two Bermudas that it so used to referring to for its political gain”

    Yes. And?

  5. Act Now says:

So what are we gonna do about it other than lip service?

  6. Act Now says:

Because people are so misinformed so out of what is really happening that the government will tell them to slap their child 3 times every morning and that would stop them from catching covid and the sad part is that they will do it.

  7. Boston Whaler Owner says:

the plp have finally killed off tourism.
Many US and UK tourist friends are NOT coming now.

  8. Change says:

They keeping me from coming back to see my family that I haven’t seen for 3 years…I’m not getting that vaccine I don’t trust it… this needs to end.

  9. Concerned says:

This forced supervised quarantined is forcing many tourist to look elsewhere. I believe it is put to them like this: If you, as a vaccinated tourist test positive or false-positive during any testing, you are escorted to a supervised quarantine facility for 14 days at your own expense. What tourist would sign up for that? I certainly wouldn’t. Guess that’s why we have no tourists.

**in the words of a wise man “don’t complain, vote”**

That wise man obviously never lived in Bermuda. This Government can and is doing whatever it wants and there’s a load of angry people out there but come the next election they’ll again run with racist conspiracy theories and ’2 Bermudas’ (although there won’t be much of Bermuda left to salvage) and they’ll get voted right back in .

  11. MIke Laing says:

I’m a Canadian and Canada tried the hotel quarantining which was an expensive, unpopular and dismal failure. It will be significantly changed tomorrow by cancelling it for those with both vaccinations.
