Lunch & Learn On Regulating Single Use Plastics
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce will host a two-day Lunch & Learn series entitled “Regulating Single Use Plastics – The Way Forward” on Wednesday, October 6th and Thursday, October 7th.
A spokesperson said, “On Wednesday, October 6th and Thursday October 7th the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce will host a two-day Lunch & Learn series entitled “Regulating Single Use Plastics – The Way Forward.”
“In the 2018 Throne speech, The Government announced that they would be considering the introduction of legislation to eliminate single-use plastics from Bermuda. In August 2021, the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Walter Roban released a policy paper entitled “Regulating Single Use Plastics.” This is a preliminary policy paper used to open the discussion with businesses on the impact of this initiative.
“The first webinar will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, October 6th at 12:00pm and will feature David Northcott, Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Vanese Flood Gordon, Waste Education and Enforcement Officer for the Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Public Works. The focus of this discussion will be on the government’s policy paper.
“It will begin by discussing ocean pollution and the results of the overuse of single use plastics on the environment and human bodies. This will be followed up by discussing the policy paper and what the proposed changes will look like for businesses. This Session will conclude with a question and answer period.
“The second part to the series will take place via Zoom on Thursday, October 7th at 12:00pm and will feature both Katie Berry, Executive Director of Keep Bermuda Beautiful and Erich Hetzel, Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce where they will give the public a deeper understanding of the environmental impacts of single use plastics on our lives. This session will be followed by with a question and answer period.
“Both courses are designed and geared towards anyone who is interested in understanding how the regulation of single use plastics in Bermuda will affect their businesses. These webinars may be of particular interest to restauranters, retailers and any other business owners who buy and/or sell single use plastic goods.
