Darlington FC Team Hold Minute Of Silence In UK
The Darlington Football Club women’s team in England held a minute of silence before their match on Sunday to pay their respects to the late Osagi Bascome, who previously played for Darlington FC.
Darlington FC tweeted the photo below, saying: “Darlington FC Women paying their respects to former player Osagi Bascome with a one minutes silence before today’s game. Everyone from the club’s thoughts are with Osagi’s family and friends.”
The talented footballer played for Bermuda internationally and also played professionally overseas, and Darlington FC previously said, “The club is devastated to learn of the passing of former player Osagi Bascome. Osagi joined the club in 2019 playing a memorable role in our FA Cup tie at Walsall. Everyone from the club’s thoughts are with Osagi’s family and friends.”
The local football community was in shock over the murder of the well liked footballer, with the Bermuda Football Association President Mark Wade stating, “Football has suffered another tragic loss. A family has received a call that no family should. Osagi Bascome represented Bermuda with distinction at all levels of international football. We mourn a life taken from us too soon.
“On behalf of the Bermuda Football Association Executive and members I send our thoughts and prayers to the St. Georges Cricket Club, the Foggo and Bascome families, the St. Georges Community, as well as ‘Sagi’s’ friends and teammates.”
Dante Leverock – who has played alongside Mr Bascome on the Bermuda National Team for years — was one of the many local footballers who paid tribute to him, saying, “A great person and great teammate, could light up a room was always smiling, cracking jokes making sure those around him were in a great mood. So many experiences together traveling the world playing this game football we loved so much. A part of the golden generation we all made history together, a genuine person.
“I’m honored to have played on the same team as you. Even more honored to have been your friend. A massive loss of talent, massive loss for Bermuda, most importantly been taken away from his family his loved ones. You are a legend Sagi, I love you brother.”
The police have launched a murder investigation and anyone with any information is urged to call the Police Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or 211 or you can call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477.
