Bermuda Festival Announces Line Up Of Shows

February 17, 2022

The Bermuda Festival has announced its line up of shows for the 2022 iteration of the event.

Executive Director, Cindy Campbell, said, “Organising a Festival during a pandemic was a huge challenge, there were many, many unknowns and we are thrilled that we are able to present a diversified Festival that mixes both overseas and local artists.”

The spokesperson said, “This year’s Festival will present two theatre production. SOLD, the award-winning show from London tells the story of Mary Prince in the African Griot style of storytelling fusing theatre, singing, music, poetry, drumming and dance. The second production by Grammy nominee, Diane Ferlatte, brings stories to life on stage. Diane will present seven different shows some of which are designed for children and others for adults.

“Two outstanding classical music groups will be featured this year. The Stanford Philharmonia Orchestra is an elite 48 member semi-professional orchestra from Stanford University. The orchestra will offer three entirely different shows featuring Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, favourite themes from movies and Broadway and Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The second concert features Caroline Campbell, a Stanford alumna and recognised international violin virtuoso, who also has a Bermuda connection as she recently married Bermuda’s Chris Estwanik.

“Stanford is also offering an exceptional student outreach opportunity in Thursday’s performance which will include a short concert featuring 30 of Bermuda’s best string students paired with Stanford musicians performing under the baton of an internationally known conductor.

“The Festival’s second classical concert features a terrific trio of piano, cello and violin which will offer two exciting concerts with pieces from Baroque to Tango. Grammy award-winning cellist, Kate Kayaiain, and violinist, Breanna Thornton, who are both teachers at the Bermuda School of Music, are featured performers. We have incredible talent here on our island.

“The Festival season will close with two fun, feel-good concerts that will be performed in the new Festival tent in the Victualling Yard at Dockyard.

“Joy T Barnum and her talented band have created a bespoke concert for the Festival to celebrate triumph and life as the Festival returns to live performances. Including some surprise guest artists, the show will include a little rock, a little jazz, some reggae, and inspirational selections. Celebrating and supporting our Bermuda youth, her show ‘Stand Up’ will include a cameo appearance from a local youth choir who will be joining Ms Barnum for this two-night performance. You will come away from this concert energized, enriched, and inspired.

“The Festival’s last show is just pure fun featuring the Three Kings and The Full Watts Band. These two bands will wrap you in a cloak of endless vibes that will leave you under their spell as they bring to life classic recordings by great singers and harmony groups of the rocksteady and early reggae era. You will walk away from this show with a smile on your face and feeling good.

  1. A good line up says:

This will add life to our culture. Well done. With a great festival outline of local acts but they missed a key area. I wonder who these people consult?
