Nikki Bascome To Face Jamaican Opponent
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Nikki Bascome will face Kevin Hylton on a fight card billed as “Bermuda v Jamaica” at The Shed in Royal Naval Dockyard on May 28.
Bascome, who will headline the Epic Entertainment promotion, will look to build on his unanimous points victory over Canadian Dylan Rushton at the same venue in January.
The welterweight will prepare for the bout by heading to Las Vegas to train under Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of five-time world champion Floyd.
Bascome has enlisted the help of Mayweather, a world-renowned coach, for several fights since the death of his long-time mentor Allan “Forty” Rego in 2018.
Hylton, who has a record of seven wins and one draw from 15 contests, has not fought since beating Guyanese Richard Williamson via technical knockout in Spanish Town, Jamaica, in 2019.
The standout name on his resume is Guyanese-British fighter Howard Eastman, who twice challenged for the middleweight world championship title, and defeated Hylton by unanimous decision in Kingston in 2014.
On the “Bermuda v Jamaica” undercard, welterweight Andre Lambe will meet Toriano Nicholas, who has one win and one draw from five outings.
The Jamaican lost his previous fight against Carlos Dixon, of the United States, by technical knockout in Kingston in July 2019.
Lambe produced a stunning first-round stoppage victory over Dajuan Robinson, of the US, at The Shed last weekend to extend his pro record to four straight wins.
“He [Nicholas] is supposed to be a pure boxer,” Lambe told Bernews. “The fight [against Robinson] was about keeping me active, so I’m ready for him.
“It’s great having regular fights. They help me develop my skills and stay engaged. I’m working on different things every fight, so when I get those big fights, those tough fights, I have my bases covered.”
The amateur undercard will feature Adrian Roach, who lost on points to Brazilian Jhonatan Soares at the American Boxing Confederation Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador, last weekend.
Meanwhile, Bermudian professional Tyler Christopher will pursue his fourth successive victory since joining the paid ranks on a fight card at The Holte Suite, Villa Park, in Birmingham, England, on April 23.
