Chris Furbert Supports David Burt For Leader

October 19, 2022

“I have no hesitation in supporting him to continue as Party Leader and Premier,” BIU President Chris Furbert said in advance of the PLP’s leadership election tomorrow night which will see the delegates select between the current PLP Leader David Burt and Curtis Dickinson.

Chris Furbert — the President of the BIU and a lifelong PLP member — said, “As a life member of the Progressive Labour Party [PLP] there has never been a more important time than this to support the current leader of the Party and Premier, the Hon. E. David Burt.

“I believe a healthy democracy should always welcome a challenge and yes, I have challenged decisions made by the Premier on more than one occasion but at the same time I do feel he has the qualities needed and is the best person suited to lead not only the Party but the country. As he has done since becoming Party Leader.

“His fortitude in carrying out the Party’s manifesto and keeping it in the forefront, even in the midst of constant criticism from within and outside of the Party but he has remained focused to carry out the wishes of the previous Delegates Conference and the members. He was congratulated and celebrated locally and abroad for seeing Bermuda through an unforeseen pandemic along with his government colleagues that was no easy task.

“I applaud him for being able to give selflessly to the community while at the same time meeting the needs of his family.

“His courage and approach with the Banks, the Insurance Industry, International Business and local businesses in an attempt to change the financial direction of Bermuda and its people, will help to remove some of the hardships they are facing.

“I appreciate his tenacity and his ability to stay focused not only when he is personally attacked but also his family, that is the true measure of his experience, he exemplifies the words of Dr. Martin Luther King ‘The true measure of a man is not how he behaves in moments of comfort and convenience but how he stands at times of controversy and challenges.’ As the current leader of the Bermuda Industrial Union, I have been in his shoes on many occasions when it comes to the personal attacks but we thrive with the support of our families, friends, supporters and members.

“The Hon. E. David Burt along with his team has brought the PLP to this great milestone and he has so much more to offer as Party Leader, therefore I have no hesitation in supporting him to continue as Party Leader and Premier. I wish him all the best and continued success.”

  2. comfortably numb says:

‘Give selflessly’ or ‘take selfishly’? Think you got your words mixed up there Brother Chris. Still not publishing your financial audits Chris, that would change with Curtis in charge?

  3. inna says:

cause that’s what side the bread is buttered on and he knows Mr Dickinson will need to make some very serious decisions which he wouldn’t like. Better the devil you know than the one you dint

But for the rest of us… better the devil you don’t that the devil you know..

  4. Ringmaster says:

Hardly surprising with Furbert’s lack of basic economics, but the PLP would show a lot of “progressive” movement and that they are for Bermuda and not just the party, to elect someone with business and financial competency, not someone who cannot spot a scam when presented to them. As for Mr. Burt’s alleged experience with IB boardrooms etc, he needs to drop the ego thinking he is as smart as CEO’s and the like. Political BS doesn’t impress, quite the opposite.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

      “Political BS doesn’t impress,”

Actually, I think it does impress some people. Look at how long former UBP Leader Wayne Furbert has been around.

I’m not sure anyone takes economics advice from Elmer Fudd. But this does tell you that Curtis is the better choice for Bermuda.

So, you gonna put party before country? Of course you are.
