Jan 13 – 15: Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge
The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge is set to take place from Friday, January 13 through to Sunday, January 15, 2023.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Tourism Authority is pleased to announce its partnership with The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge [Chubb BTC] set to take place from Friday, January 13 through to Sunday, January 15, 2023. Kicking off the new year, the January Race Weekend will host runners from around the world and features guest of honour Meb Keflezighi, a four-time Olympian and iconic long-distance runner. Mr. Keflezighi, a past winner of both the New York and Boston marathons, will also participate in the Chubb BTC Runner’s Expo at the Hamilton Princess on January 13 and be a keynote speaker at the Pre-Race Pasta Dinner on Saturday, January 14 at Hamilton Princess.
“The Chubb BTC is a key fixture on Bermuda’s annual endurance sports lineup and this year introduces the PwC Half-Marathon Relay category that will provide greater access for visitors and locals to participate in the acclaimed annual competition. With a mere $50 entry fee and options to enter teams of between two and four people, the series will be accessible to runners of various training levels and budgets.”
Mark Harris, member of the Chubb BTC Organizing Committee said, “The addition of a half marathon relay to the 2023 Chubb BTC allows even more people to take part in the weekend’s events. We’re particularly excited that runners as young as 12 years of age can register for the relay, and we hope to see many of Bermuda’s youth road racing champions out on the course.”
The spokesperson said, “The route for the relay teams follows the same footprint as the PwC Half-Marathon race, starting outside Hamilton Princess and ending at Barr’s Bay Park. The first leg goes for three miles from the starting line to South Road and the second leg will go 2.75 miles towards John Smith’s Bay. Relay runners assigned to the third leg will receive the baton at John Smith’s Bay for the handover on North Shore Road covering 3.25 miles. Relay participants running on the fourth leg will cover 4.1 miles ending at Barr’s Bay Park. There will be a Gosling’s Rum Stop at the end of the second and fourth legs, and each competitor will be awarded a Chubb BTC medal.”
Tracy Berkeley, interim Chief Executive Officer said, “We are excited to welcome the return of our signature road racing series, the Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge, a Boston Marathon qualifier event in January. Support of the endurance category aligns with our National Tourism Plan objectives to drive sports tourism year-round.”
Hazel Clark, Director of Global Business Development & Sports, said, “Bermuda can be proud of this homegrown international road-racing event. Endurance sports are a key focus of our sports tourism development strategy – we have marathon-friendly weather conditions, enthusiastic spectators, and a sophisticated sports infrastructure to meet the elevated expectations of global marathon-chasers.”
The spokesperson said, “The Chubb BTC is a three-day running event that will begin on Friday, January 13, 2023, with the Butterfield Mile, continue Saturday, January 14, 2023, with the BF&M 10k Run/Walk event, and finishes on Sunday, January 15, 2023, with the PwC Bermuda Marathon and PwC Bermuda Half Marathon. Runners also have the option of running the Chubb BTC Full Triangle Challenge or the Chubb BTC Half Triangle Challenge, which would be the completion of three races in three days: the mile on Friday, the 10k on Saturday and either the full marathon or half marathon on Sunday.
