The Loren Hotel partnered with Harrington Sound Primary School to explore the world of hospitality, with the students learning about cooking and taking part in a pizza making competition.
A spokesperson said, “On Friday afternoons, the Harrington Sound Primary School students, after a week of intense academics, have the opportunity to develop their vocational, technical and practical skills even further, by participating in a variety of innovative and exciting extracurricular activities.
“This initiative developed by Principal Cindy Weeks, fosters teamwork, camaraderie and sees students from P1 – P6 learning new crafts or honing their future vocational skills. Principal Weeks noted that ‘we have students of various abilities and talents and this presents the opportunity for the learning to come away from the page.’ She further states that at HSPS, we are big on outdoor classroom experiences and this speaks to that piece.’
“Some of the activities offered are: Gardening, Fishing, Performing Arts, Choir, Sign Language, Architectural Construction, Eco-Club and Dance, just to name a few. Each activity is taught by a member of staff and they have just as much fun delivering the instruction. This is what HSPS calls their ‘Club Time’. The buzz in the air on a Friday is infectious! On Friday, twelve P6 students had the unique opportunity to participate in a spectacular activity, as HSPS and one of their community partners, the Loren Hotel came together.
“Under the direction of Mr. Andre Roberts – the Head of the Food & Beverage Department at the Loren, the event proved a roaring success. The students welcomed Chef Eric Adjepong, a world renowned celebrity Chef, who imparted his culinary skills and knowledge to the twelve. Adorned in their chefs hats and aprons, these students learned invaluable lessons, taught in a fun and engaging way, by Chef Eric.
“At the end of the session, students entered into a pizza making competition, which saw ribbons going to the following students for their ingenuity and creativity: 1st place – Khairi Hollis, 2nd place Samir Williams and 3rd place Amani Outerbridge. But all participants did an amazing job! Principal Weeks thanked Chef Eric, the Loren Hotel and their phenomenal team of professional chefs who accompanied them and articulated that she looks forward to the next event in a series of opportunities that the Loren Hotel will collaborate on with the HSPS.”
