Inaugural Bermuda & Buck/Berk/Ox Pro Am
The inaugural Bermuda & Buck/Berk/Ox Inaugural PGA Pro Am will take place at Port Royal Golf Course today [April 1].
A spokesperson said, “The Pro-Am event will feature a Captains Choice/Scramble Format with each team led by a Golf Professionals from the UK & Bermuda.
“The event was arranged to launch what is envisaged as the start of a long association with the UK and Bermuda through golf.
“The genesis for this inaugural event are former PGA European Tour Players Kim Swan and Nick Mitchell who renewed a 40 year friendship when they were paired together in a Masters Senior Tour competition at the historic Pannal Golf Club in Leeds in 2022 when Kim Swan was preparing for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on the PGA Tour.
“A friendship ensued with Nick Mitchell later assisting Kim Swan with his golf game and the two discussing ways to foster greater links between Bermuda and the United Kingdom.
“With the support of Ms. Tracey Berkeley, CEO of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Mr. Bushara Bushara of Newstead Belmont Resort and Ms. Thomassinna Hassell & Steven Lambert of Bermuda Government Golf Courses – the contingent of Nick Michell, Lorraine Storey and Guy Woodman were flown to Bermuda to experience our golf and Bermuda hospitality.”
Kim Swan shared, “I am humbled to have been reacquainted with Nick [Mitchell] who continues to play golf at a high standard, is an exceptional golf coach and a great mind of the game.
“Highlights for the week were cocktails in a Bermuda home graciously hosted by Kim & Alun Hughes, in addition to golf hosted by Port Royal Golf Course, Mid Ocean Club and Newstead Belmont Hills Resort.”
The UK trio were featured on local radio – Tourism in Focus on Magic 1027FM hosted by Kim Swan. Ironically, it was discovered that Nick Mitchell also had a career broadcasting golf and was even recruited for the broadcast booth.”
Kim Swan continued, “The true impetus for our initiative is to grow tourism in the winter months when the weather in the UK is dreadfully cold.”
“Featured in the Pro-Am will be persons involved with providing hospitality for the visitors and Port Royal Trustees.”
