Students To Help Build A Church & School

April 7, 2023

Nearly 50 volunteers made up of  Bermuda Institute students, teachers and parents traveled to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for a ten-day mission trip.

A spokesperson said, “Their goal is to build a school/church. This trip was originally planned for Perú in 2020, then Covid-19 happened. Now that life is slowly getting back to normal, the school renewed its commitment to take the students on a short-term -mission trip every other year.

“Our team is partnering with an organization called Maranatha Volunteers International. This is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for volunteers who desire a short-term mission experience, and connect volunteers with a local community to make a difference for them.

“They coordinate the construction of urgently needed buildings, like schools or churches, etc.., around the world. During our trip, our group will take on numerous tasks. Some of these include a health program in the form of Vacation Bible School, connecting with the community, and the construction of a church/school, as well as other outreach programs.

“The Bermuda Institute school board has empowered these students and their chaperones by granting them permission to travel abroad and provide service to those in need. Other students have gone to the Dominican Republic and Panama where they have helped build schools.

“This group is excited and is looking forward to serving the Santo Domingo community, as well as learning about their culture. These types of projects align with the school’s curriculum and our students’ desire to help others. We believe that these short-term mission trips can and most often lead to a life-changing experience for all participants.”
