Group Meets To Discuss Education Reform Plans

May 1, 2023

The community meeting on primary education reform “was an uplifting and productive success” and “desired outcomes included multiple calls for a temporary pause in aspects of education reform, a change in leadership, and civil disobedience.”

The group had previously said they are “deeply disturbed to learn of comments made”, and St George’s Preparatory School PTA said they joined with West End Warriors to “co-host an urgent meeting”, adding that they “are calling on PTA representatives of any concerned school to attend this meeting.”

Following the meeting, spokesperson told Bernews, “The community meeting on primary education reform, held at the Cathedral Hall, was an uplifting and productive success.

“Roughly 80 community members from across the island, representing 16 different school communities and 13 primary schools, were present.

“Attendees engaged in rich dialogue where they identified their main concerns and desired outcomes for education reform generally and primary education reform specifically.

“Identified concerns ranged from a lack of transparency, a lack of stakeholder buy-in, flawed consultation, a lack of consideration for special needs students, a sense of rushing in the process, the lack of a comprehensive plan including budget, and others.

“Desired outcomes included multiple calls for a temporary pause in aspects of education reform, a change in leadership, and civil disobedience.

“Most notable was the inspiring sense of community and togetherness at the meeting. Attendees all agreed that education reform was necessary and kept children and community at the center of all of their discussions.

“An expanded working group was formed out of last night’s meeting. Members will be responsible for continuing and growing the movement that has begun. Anyone who is interested in receiving updates and joining the movement can email ourschoolsbermuda@gmail.com.”

Basically, they want what they want, not taking into account the limitations both financial and human. And they are willing to try and prevent any reform unless it its exactly what they want.

And then in x amount of years, they will say “the government hasnt done anything.”
