Bermuda distance runner Sean Trott said he was thrilled to run a season best in the men’s half-marathon at the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey.
Trott finished twelfth in yesterday’s race [July 14] in a season-best time of 1hr 12min 40sec.
His personal best came at the Island Games in the Isle of Wight in 2011 when his 1:12:20 won him the bronze medal.
The 33-year-old told Bernews: “My time is a big season best. It was almost four minutes quicker than my time [1:16:20] in the May 24 race.
“I felt I ran strong throughout. I got caught up in a lead pack very early, trying to feel it out. They were very quick, and I just tried to stay as close throughout as I could.
“I was a bit scared I was going to blow up. I hung in, took the gels, and kept it together.”
Trott, who came tenth in the 10,000 metres men’s race in 33:00.82 on Monday, said he was more than satisfied with his performances in Guernsey.
“Coming in, I thought a medal could be a possibility, but the competition has stepped up this year.”
Trott and Sammy DeGraff, who placed sixteenth in the men’s half-marathon in 1:14:23, helped Bermuda finish joint-fifth in the half-marathon team event.
“I was pleased with my time,” DeGraff said. “The thing for me was breaking 1:15.
“I felt comfortable, although my legs were tight towards the end when pushing up the hill.”
