Nia Christopher Leads In Game Winning Goals
Bermuda’s Nia Christopher scored for her Towson University women’s soccer team as they played to a 2-1 victory over La Salle, with her goal making her the University’s leader in game-winning goals.
The school’s match report said, “Towson women’s soccer opened the season with a 2-1 win against La Salle on Thursday night. Jasmine Hamid and Nia Christopher both netted first half goals in the win.
“Towson [1-0] had to overcome a player down situation in the second half to hold off La Salle [0-1]. In the process, Nia Christopher became the program leader in game winning goals with 11, passing hall of famer Christi Landi who had the previous mark at 10.
“Nia Christopher recorded a goal and an assist in the win with Jasmine Hamid adding a goal for the Tigers.
“Nia Christopher had the first look on goal in the 13th minute. She took a ball in the box, but her attempt was saved.
“La Salle threatened just seconds later, but their shot sailed high.
“Towson would strike in the 17th minute. Hamid would take a feed from Nia Christopher and slot it home to make it 1-0 Tigers.
“Christopher would get her first of the season after taking a great ball from Rebecca Groseibl to give Towson a 2-0 late in the first half.
“Towson would fight off a late flurry from the Explorers to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Tigers outshot La Salle 9-4 in the opening half with Christopher recording four shots.
“Nia Christopher moved into third place all-time with 64 points. She is now four shy of second place at 70 points.
“Christopher also became the program leader in game-winning goals with 11. She passes hall of famer Christi Landi who had the previous mark at 10.”
