Dennico Hollis Enjoys Strong Season In Scotland

Bermuda cricketer Dennico Hollis has enjoyed his “best-ever season” as a bowler to help LOC Hire Stenhousemuir finish fourth in the Western Premiership One in Scotland.
Hollis, who helped Stenhousemuir gain promotion after winning the Western Division One title last season, claimed 21 wickets at an average of 20.33.
The left-arm seam bowler has not bowled much in recent years, focusing on his batting and vice-captain duties, which he relinquished before the start of last season, but said he requested to take the ball halfway through the campaign.
“I’m the fittest I’ve been in years,” Hollis told Bernews. “I told the selectors and committee, ‘I want to return to being a batting allrounder. I want to bowl every game and still bat at number three.’
“This is the best I’ve bowled in my career. I didn’t bowl much during the first half of the season, so imagine how many wickets I’d have taken if I’d bowled all summer!”
Hollis, who retired from international cricket last summer, scored 284 runs at an average of 13.52 and admits he hoped to contribute greater with the bat.
“A few harsh decisions went against me when I could have gone on and got a bigger score,” said Hollis, who had a top score of 50.
“I’m making no excuses because umpiring decisions are part of the game.
“I need to give myself a chance of batting for longer. The longer you bat, the easier it gets. I should have scored more runs.”
The 35-year-old, who also helped Stenhousemuir reach the semi-finals of the McCulloch Cup T20, said he has relished the opportunity to test himself against the best players in the west of Scotland.
“It had been eight years since this club had been in the top division,” Hollis said.
“Finishing fourth is a good achievement and something we can build on next season. I think we are capable of winning the league. It’s the small margins where we need to improve.
“The division is very competitive and makes you think more than Division One.”
