The Government Administration Building in Hamilton will be closed on Tuesday [Sept 26] and Wednesday [Sept 27] “due to unforeseen issues encountered while repairing the building’s air conditioning system.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works regrets to inform the public that the Government Administration Building [GAB], located in Hamilton, will be closed on Tuesday, September 26, and Wednesday, September 27, due to unforeseen issues encountered while repairing the building’s air conditioning system.

“As a result, several Government departments operating from the GAB will not be available for in-person services during these two days, including the Department of Immigration, Registry General, the Registrar of Companies, cashier services, the Department of Archives, the Department of Social Insurance and the Supreme Court.

“During this time, residents in need of Government cashier services may visit the 3rd floor of the General Post Office building within the Ministry of Public Works for assistance.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and assure you that every effort is being made to resolve the situation swiftly.

“The maintenance and safety of our facilities are paramount to us, and this temporary closure is necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the air conditioning system within the GAB.”

Unforeseen? Sounds like more issues arising from lack of basic maintenance of Government infrastructure. Time surely for a tax payer revolt.

  2. Paid off government says:

    Unforseen?? It’s called maintenance.
    One word . “Incompetence”

  3. Steve says:

So they can’t wait until the weekend to fix problems. More B/S

    • Joanne says:

You do know that the new windows that were installed open from the top only, hence there is no air for the workers. Yes the building has to close.

      • open sesame says:

so OPEN the TOP and get some fans for now. good lord I am glad they dont have to work outside in the heat like some of us. As said before MAINTENANCE and repairs after hours maybe

  4. comfortably numb says:

Too much to ask for the a/c to be fixed on a Saturday and Sunday to avoid inconveniencing the general public? If any private sector business operated like the government they would be bankrupt. Oh, wait…….

    • Joanne says:

      1. The General Public being inconvenienced, or 2. the health of the occupants of the building. Pick one. I swear people talk just to hear themselves.

  6. puzzled says:

Vote these incompetent MP’s out at the next election.
    PLP that is.
They are smashing the island to fill their coffers down south when we sink.

All Government’s Infrastructure is falling apart and decaying. Look at Port Royal Fire Station. It has had a broken Bay door for 3 Months now. That is how first responders are treated in this country! The very week that broke, it should have been fixed! It tells me that there are most likely other issues with that building that the Public doesn’t know about. The Building is in DIS-REPAIR! All can see the Broken Bay door when they drive past. Remember, that is a reflection of Government, MP!
Now that Heron Bay school is vacated of Students, will it sit to Rot in place to bring down property values? Haven’t heard of a plan.
Tynes Bay trash facility is NASTY, the panels at the entrance have been dented for years! The outside drain with dark stinky water has been backed up for years! Where is Health and Safety? What about the OVERHAUL that is to take place? Maybe the Plant will fail soon and it will become an EMERGENCY!
All one has to do is look around and point out a Government Property issue . There are plenty of them. And you have to Wonder, where have all MY TAX DOLLARS GONE. Some of us know. We don’t have to continue to repeat it. Nobody checks the Bermuda Government or else life would be a LOT different here.
